If you are an English speaker- I would honestly recommend AVOIDING this restaurant! Kind of shocked at how I was treated. I was planning on dropping $200+ on dinner and wine. It is not a sidewalk cafe... The manager is a walking and honestly outdated steroetype of the arrogant rude French waiter... He rolled his eyes at me and sighed with dramatic body language when I asked for the wine list. It was sitting on the table and I had not seen it. I softly laughed embarrased & said Merci. He Made a rude comment and twirled to walk away when I was attempting to ask a question. I asked someone else for assistance and they were quite nice... however, he was my waiter. One of the women came over to put something down and spoke the fastest French that I have heard... I started to ask her to slow down that I didn't speak much French when she placed the plate - almost threw it in front of me... swirled around and went to the service station... grabbed bread- came back over and slammed it down- still holding onto it in front of me... and barked "Pain!" Still looking directly at me... she said, "bread in French is Pain!" Her body language was angry and aggressive! The manager clearly perpetuated the culture in the restaurant and although I am a native English speaker, I speak AND understand quite a bit of French... definitely enough to know that the manager was mocking an English speaker on the phone as well regarding their attempt to communicate. They were not busy at all. It was early- they were standing around. They could have taken the time to allow me the time and space to order. I felt so incredibly uncomfortable. Other things happened. Service : --it took them 40 minutes to bring water to the water, and it was 11pm at night, with no new guests coming. --The table beside us had a family extremely disappointed with the food, and all the manager did was to argue back. --the manager overcharged our bill, we only found out because we cross checked because it seemed higher - again total scam --while processing the bill the manager kept speaking loudly over my head to someone else on his team, not even recognizing that he was dealing with a customer - let alone over charging the wrong amount 3. we just returned from what was one of the most wonderful dinner experiences that we have enjoyed in a long time. We went for the Bouillabaisse, which did not disappoint, but the complete dinner experience (we took 3-1/2 hours) was wonderful! The waitstaff ranged from friendly to cool to downright hilarious, and the energy of the establishment was really fun and welcoming. We got an education on how to properly eat bouillabaisse (it's a 2-3 course meal), enjoyed very inventive amuse bouches between courses, and finished with a light and delicious soufflé. You should avoid here as much as possible. Pros: good views and environment. Cons: Waiting too long time, inpatient waiters/waitress, and overpriced food. If you must come here, please remember that DO NOT order the "tray of fish", which is 138 euro for 2 people. Firstly they will show you a big tray of cooked fish, then they will take it away and tell you that they will help you to cut the fish into small pieces. Finally you will get 2 small plates of fish like the photo I attached (do you believe that it's 69 euro?). I guess that the fish in the final dishes was not the one in the original tray. In other words, they changed it. We went there specifically for a bouillabaisse. There's nothing cheap on the wine list and we were hesitating over bottles when the hostess suggested wine by the glass at a reasonable rate. Glasses are poured generously and we immediately appreciated the fact they don't push the expensive option. The service and staff was particularly nice. The bouillabaisse was delicious. Served in two steps: first the fish soup and then the large portion of fish in its broth. Don't go crazy for the soup if you want to keep an appetite for the fish plate, our only mistake. Miramar, A Treacherous Tourist Trap It seems like a second yelp account as created to boost the horrible reviews of the first one. Warning signs: Two yelp accounts, Harbor location in a highly touristic area, bad wine, clientele entirely tourists, laminated english menu, outrageous prices, misleading website. Food: Vastly disappointing. In place of real technique, miramar relies on use of pomp & show, truffles, grease, and free giveaways to alter impression. The bouillabaisse soup is served from a vat. If you order the seafood soup appetizer, it is the same soup ladled from the same keep-warm vat. The 7-hour lamb was alright, at best. The Octopus main course was mediocre in presentation and taste. At 69€ per person, The Bouillabaisse was completely overpriced and a confusing experience. Wine: 68€ per bottle is the lowest price point. We got a bottle of both red and white. Unfortunately it was suspiciously of the same taste and body of a sub 10€ bottle from monoprix, the grocery store chain. Service: Slightly demeaning, Extremely slow (1 hour 10 minute time from ordering till food arriving) Price: €400 for a party of 6 including a child. We were very happy with our service and meal. Traveling in February in any part of Europe is met with some of the local establishments open for limited hours. After walking past several restaurants and reviewing the menus, we decided to take a chance. I had the most delicious Scallops with risotto and a Ratatouille-veggie mixture and my husband had a steak cooked a little too rare, but he loved it anyway. Ordering food in another country is always a bit difficult... but we genuinely enjoyed this meal and the atmosphere. Looking to get our first taste of Bouillabase, my wife and I ended up at Miramar, based on it having some good articles written about it online, it being close to our hotel, and the other places we were considering were closed (Sunday). Unfortunately, we were left disappointed and hesitant to try Bouillabase anywhere else, because we may end up disappointed again. Walking up to Miramar, it looks very classy compared to the other restaurants next to it that are by the water. Unfortunately for us, the front patio seating with the great view was full, so we had to settle for a seat inside. The inside area was a confusing mix of classic French decor with beach murals painted on the upper walls. We also noted that they were playing 80's American music in English, which seemed very tourist-focused (not a good sign). Based on the reviews of others, we decided to stick with the Bouillabase for two, as everyone stated that the portions were very large. We found this to be true, as we definitely would have been satisfied with half of what we ordered. We also ordered a dessert and a bottle of wine. The first thing we received after ordering was an amuse-bouche that consisted of a bowl of 'salad' that was a mix of lentils, tomoto based sauce, and gelatin, along with a mini slice of pizza that was topped with truffle slices. The amuse bouche, looking back on the entirety of the meal, was actually very good. After the amuse-bouche, we were given a basket of toasted bread 'coins' accompanied by whole garlic cloves and a tomato based spread. This was also tasty, as we rubbed the garlic onto the bread and layered the tomato spread on top; not sure if this was the intent, but it ended up being a good combo. We also received our wine, which was recommended by the waiter and was very good. It was set in ice in a bucket next to our table; an upscale move that was appreciated. We were then presented with the fish that were cooked in our Bouillabase, before it was served to us. Then we were given the soup on it's own, which was a tomoto based stew with a hint of anise and the flavors of the different fish that were presented to us. I found it to be pretty good, even if it was a bit grainy in texture. Then we were served the soup with the fish in it, along with some potatoes. This is when everything fell apart. The fish were overcooked to the point that some of them were rubbery and the potatoes were undercooked and flavorless inside. Some of the other pieces of fish (seemed to be the eel) still had a good amount of bones in them. This was very disappointing, considering the price, presentation, etc. lead us to believe that we would get a soup that was more well executed than this. Both my wife and I ended up not finishing our stews; not merely due to the amount of food, but because it became unenjoyable to continue eating. We finished with the dessert that we ordered, which was a fruit ravioli. This was pretty disappointing, as it was a seasonal fruit compote with a gelatin 'blanket' on top of it. We were provided some free dessert bites at the end which, if we would have known we were getting, would have been satisfied with instead of the dessert we ordered. It also has to be said, that the service was very mixed here. At the very beginning of our meal, the service was very good and made you feel like you were being well taken care of. However, halfway through the meal, the servers came around much less (even though there were less patrons at this time), so much so, that I ended up pouring my wine from the ice bucket myself (a rough proposition I know, but for the amount of money being paid, which was around 200€ for our final bill, much more should be expected). I would not recommend Miramar to anyone looking to have a good Bouillabase experience in Marseille. It seems that Miramar may have been a good Bouillabase restaurant in the past, but due to their current lack of execution, porous commitment to service, and cheap touristy vibe that veils the bones of a classy restaurant, you will ultimately leave disappointed. read more

The food at this tourist trap was overpriced and subpar. The staff was stuffy, and the menus were incredibly misleading. The chef then proceeded to send me a rude message via Yelp accusing me of giving them one star because they're Asian. Just to be clear, heritage had nothing to do with the rating--I gave them one star because I've had far better food for 20% of the cost. Additionally, the inconsistent pricing across menus is a bogus practice. The Miramar is a fine seafood restaurant in the queue of restaurants along the port area of Marseilles. The restaurant has a red theme with elegant white tablecloths. It is one of the nicest restaurants in the port area. We went for boulliabase. The boulliabase was excellent with six or seven fishes. We had excellent service in the beginning but as the Miramar became busy we were forgotten. We probably would have ordered more wine and dessert. As it was we left without ordering more. The overly expensive and scarce quantity of food would have been acceptable if it had any flavour. We had the lobster salad which was a small piece of lobster with some grapefruit and parsley. As long as the food is good, I don't care about presentation and price. But this place only focused on presentation. 5 shrimps in my gambas order without any rice, sides, vegetables or anything else and it was €40. We had foie gras, scallopes for appetizers, and lobster pasta and tuna. The foods were delicious although they were lacking portion. They all looked very pretty too. I never liked foie gras, and I still don't, but I decided to try it at this restaurant for the sake of it, and I quite liked it. My lobster pasta was amazing. My friend loved her foods too. Right next to our hotel, walked by here several times a day. Somewhat dated atmosphere in the interior room. Novice and eager Vietnamese staff were in training for summer months. Bouillabaisse had too much clovers with no effect of freshening the fishes. The pre-served mushroom toast was too sweet for the entree. Bones were not finely removed from the fishes. Indeed, the tall and slim man in the hall was very arrogant. I wanted to finish the meal as fast as I can, due to him. When he asked me to drink water or have dessert, I said no thanks, then his face turned to cold. The only thing I was glad was serving woman in the hall with smiles and the sauce served with dried bread. This restaurant has to be in effort more. This is a high three stars but I find it hard to give four when factoring in value, as it was a very expensive meal. I went there with a friend and we decided to go with their signature dish, the Bouillabaisse. Good thing I was hungry, because it's a large meal: first you get soup without actual pieces of fish in it, then you get the same with the fish.(I was surprised though not unhappy that there was not much shellfish but instead a lot of actual fish.) Tip: unless you are really hungry, don't finish that first soup, to save room for the actual fish. Also, we realized that this restaurant is making quite a thing of its desserts. Both tables near us ordered in humongous dessert platters that would put even most American restaurants to shame to shame. They were probably delicious but we were too full to even think about dessert. Service was good and unlike a previous reviewer, we had no problem getting English spoken. The waiters had some disagreement between them which local, white wine would suit our meal best but it turned out well (cannot remember which wine we ended up with but it was good). The dryish white port we had as aperitif was fine, too. So if you don't mind paying up, here's a fine meal to be had. I feel a bit sorry about not giving them four stars, as the meal itself warranted them, but the price tag for the Bouillabaisse was really high. The lunch experience was terrible..,the bouillabaisse was subpar in that the seafood used was old and way overpriced. My wife and I paid 58 Euros each for the bouillabaisse alone.
