You should avoid here as much as possible. Waiting too long time, inpatient waiters/waitress, and overpriced food.

You should avoid here as much as possible. Pros: good views and environment. Cons: Waiting too long time, inpatient waiters/waitress, and overpriced food. If you must come here, please remember that DO NOT order the "tray of fish", which is 138 euro for 2 people. Firstly they will show you a big tray of cooked fish, then they will take it away and tell you that they will help you to cut the fish into small pieces. Finally you will get 2 small plates of fish like the photo I attached (do you believe that it's 69 euro?). I guess that the fish in the final dishes was not the one in the original tray. In other words, they changed it. Because 1) the original one in the tray was big and various, but the final one in the plate was so simple. 2) The final fish we got was warm outside but cold inside, and had been re-heated obviously. 3) the waitress cut the fish in a corner we cannot see, rather than near our table.

Second step of the Bouillabaisse meal: the fish in its broth.

We went there specifically for a bouillabaisse. There's nothing cheap on the wine list and we were hesitating over bottles when the hostess suggested wine by the glass at a reasonable rate. Glasses are poured generously and we immediately appreciated the fact they don't push the expensive option. The service and staff was particularly nice. The bouillabaisse was delicious. Served in two steps: first the fish soup and then the large portion of fish in its broth. Don't go crazy for the soup if you want to keep an appetite for the fish plate, our only mistake. The indoor tables feel a little more formal and stuffy but the terrasse is really nice. Great experience overall!

The experience as a whole was excellent. The bouillabaisse was tasty, it was my first time trying it so I have no reference, but I enjoyed it. The portion was also huge. The Millefeuille was also great. There were numerous tapas served throughout the meal which was quite nice.

Excellent location. Delicious meals. I enjoyed the fish soup (soupe de poisson) and aïoli. A great specialty involving fish+fresh vegetables. Restaurant is pricey. Enjoy it once and keep souvenirs of a lifetime.

Looking to get our first taste of Bouillabase, my wife and I ended up at Miramar, based on it having some good articles written about it online, it being close to our hotel, and the other places we were considering were closed (Sunday). Unfortunately, we were left disappointed and hesitant to try Bouillabase anywhere else, because we may end up disappointed again. Walking up to Miramar, it looks very classy compared to the other restaurants next to it that are by the water. Unfortunately for us, the front patio seating with the great view was full, so we had to settle for a seat inside. The inside area was a confusing mix of classic French decor with beach murals painted on the upper walls. We also noted that they were playing 80's American music in English, which seemed very tourist-focused (not a good sign). Based on the reviews of others, we decided to stick with the Bouillabase for two, as everyone stated that the portions were very large. We found this to be true, as we definitely would have been satisfied with half of what we ordered. We also ordered a dessert and a bottle of wine. The first thing we received after ordering was an amuse-bouche that consisted of a bowl of 'salad' that was a mix of lentils, tomoto based sauce, and gelatin, along with a mini slice of pizza that was topped with truffle slices. The amuse bouche, looking back on the entirety of the meal, was actually very good. After the amuse-bouche, we were given a basket of toasted bread 'coins' accompanied by whole garlic cloves and a tomato based spread. This was also tasty, as we rubbed the garlic onto the bread and layered the tomato spread on top; not sure if this was the intent, but it ended up being a good combo. We also received our wine, which was recommended by the waiter and was very good. It was set in ice in a bucket next to our table; an upscale move that was appreciated. We were then presented with the fish that were cooked in our Bouillabase, before it was served to us. Then we were given the soup on it's own, which was a tomoto based stew with a hint of anise and the flavors of the different fish that were presented to us. I found it to be pretty good, even if it was a bit grainy in texture. Then we were served the soup with the fish in it, along with some potatoes. This is when everything fell apart. The fish were overcooked to the point that some of them were rubbery and the potatoes were undercooked and flavorless inside. Some of the other pieces of fish (seemed to be the eel) still had a good amount of bones in them. This was very disappointing, considering the price, presentation, etc. lead us to believe that we would get a soup that was more well executed than this. Both my wife and I ended up not finishing our stews; not merely due to the amount of food, but because it became unenjoyable to continue eating. We finished with the dessert that we ordered, which was a fruit ravioli. This was pretty disappointing, as it was a seasonal fruit compote with a gelatin 'blanket' on top of it. We were provided some free dessert bites at the end which, if we would have known we were getting, would have been satisfied with instead of the dessert we ordered. It also has to be said, that the service was very mixed here. At the very beginning of our meal, the service was very good and made you feel like you were being well taken care of. However, halfway through the meal, the servers came around much less (even though there were less patrons at this time), so much so, that I ended up pouring my wine from the ice bucket myself (a rough proposition I know, but for the amount of money being paid, which was around 200€ for our final bill, much more should be expected). I would not recommend Miramar to anyone looking to have a good Bouillabase experience in Marseille. It seems that Miramar may have been a good Bouillabase restaurant in the past, but due to their current lack of execution, porous commitment to service, and cheap touristy vibe that veils the bones of a classy restaurant, you will ultimately leave disappointed.

Food was good, and view was nice. Food a little overpriced d/t the touristy area that it's located.

This place is not interesting food, price also unclear. I eat one person lunch with 71 Euro. Be careful if you eat at there!

I came here for Marseilles charter bouillabaisse. It came out aromatic and filling (generous portions) as expected, but I couldn't describe it as especially tasty - not a lot of nuance, flavor, or variation in what was presented. Disclaimer - I've only had one data point for bouillabaisse so it may be the dish itself I disagree with rather than the restaurant's take on it. The other dishes diners around us ordered looked and smelled great. The service was above par for the area (for English speaking diners).

Great ambiance. Pricier but you pay for the fine dining cuisine. Wait staff was extremely attentive.

You need to order all of your food (no additions w/o getting back in line) We ordered a combo of their imperial prawns, langoustine, oysters, and sea urchin, along with a bucket of steamed mussels and fries. We were given a buzzer after ordering and food was delivered to the table after we found a seat. Everything we ordered was delicious, super fresh, and well priced considering the tourist-y area. The langoustines and prawns were especially good! I would eat here over getting bouillabaisse any day They provide a handy lemon scented wipe, but there are also clean bathrooms down stairs.

Being American, I made us a 7:15pm reservation. When we arrived the restaurant was empty, with only two tables occupied... my wife started to get a bit nervous. But we then remembered that any reservation before 8 is a very American thing to do! Around 8pm the restaurant began filling up with locals; we were at the right spot! Being out of the Old Port area, we didn't pay tourist pricing and probably had the best lobster we've had in a long time. The service staff is very friendly and interacted with us in English. This restaurant seems to specialize in raw and cold (crab and lobster) seafood, and it is excellent. We ordered oysters, uni, and clams and all were amazingly fresh, clean, and flavorful. There was no mignonette or any sauce and everything was served with butter and bread. The combination was surprisingly good. The oysters and clams were briny and bright, while the uni was pure umami and not oceany like Santa Barbara or Hokkaido varieties often are. They have an English menu, and the wait staff were attentive and spoke English as well. Worth a special detour if you're ever in Marseille. Update since being in Nice: We have yet to find a place in Nice that even compares. We were hopeful that Peixes, with its incredible number for 5 star reviews, would be comparable. While decent, they were not even in the same class.

A new concept that makes a lot of sense: a local seafood market that becomes a sort of "fish house"…read moreand cooks up some of its products on limited occasions, namely Friday evenings. We were a group (works really well for groups!) and we had shrimp and oysters to start, along with a simple wine that was perfectly matched to the food. Everything was really fresh. Next, a choice of either local grilled sea bass or daurade (in French, bream in English?), a good size fish, perfectly cooked and with a side of homemade fries TO DIE FOR. They kept offering me more but I tried to stay reasonable... Chez Claire is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a while, just a combination of good things: came out feeling good and not stuffed, having eaten excellent fresh seafood, being treated well by nice people, and all at a very reasonable price, probably not even half of what restaurants on the port would charge for a lesser meal. The style of cooking was simple but good which really enhanced the fish. The hosts were really nice and friendly, and dynamic. The only thing I can think of that was missing was explanation about the seafood as they clearly know a lot about their field, and I think its enjoyable and interesting to learn, but that's just me, and I admit I didn't think to actually ask them on the spot. The other remarkable aspect is the neighborhood. Belle de Mai neighborhood It is not a place known for evenings, restaurants or tourism, and you have to find it, so it is definitely off the beaten track for many people including both Marseillais and tourists. But it's near the Friche Belle de Mai, and it's also an authentic neighborhood that is pretty cool to walk through (like for an afternoon) once you've seen the more mainstream sights.
