The view of San Sebastián is fantastic, the food unfortunately is not. Came here for dinner while on holiday and did the tasting menu. The food generally did not have that fresh taste that you come to expect at a Michelin starred restaurant. And while some of the courses had a lot going on, none of them were particularly new or exciting - they seemed old, tried and played out. In fact, that's the impression that I got from the entire restaurant - one that's stuck in the 90s in its dish presentation (with dots of sauces coloring the plate), decor, and service (balloon parting gifts). Also, disappointing as this was my most expensive meal during my trip to Spain and one of my least favorite - and I tried this in lieu of Azark and Akelarre.

Gorgeous view of San Sebastian, Basque Country, in Spain.

Mirador de Ulia is a beautiful restaurant with glorious, sweeping views of San Sebastian. They gave us the best seat in the house. More impressive is that it served some of the most excellent dishes we had in our vacation in Basque Country. It's certainly deserving of its Michelin star. High praise for the squid in blank ink risotto, which was perfectly cooked. The beef tartare was amazing as well. The presentation and creativity in their dishes were quite impressive. San Sebastian continues to impress and this restaurant fits right in. If you love food of all forms and price points, San Sebastian should be on your list.

This restaurant deserves 3 Michelin stars. The food is superb, the staff are amazing people, and…read morethe decor fits the expectations. The presentation was immaculate, usually I care more about the taste but the simplicity and thoughtfulness of each plate made me pause and appreciate the presentation. Each dish was the right temperature, tasted amazing and left me wanting a bit more, but the next dish would come and I'd want more of that and the next...until I was completely stuffed. The pacing was nice ans steady, not leaving too much time to be bored and not too little time to feel like the last bite hasn't gone down. I enjoyed every aspect of this experience- and loved that they offered for us to meet the kitchen staff as well!

One of my favorite meals on my most recent Spain trip, Amelia was a delight. A very fun and…read moreinteresting tasting menu, served in a very laidback yet beautiful atmosphere. Most of the seats in the restaurant are at the kitchen counter, where you get to watch the chef's cook and plate everything. The playlist is awesome, the food is awesome, the service is super friendly and professional. The menu shows influences from Spain, Italy, and Japan, among others. It is a relatively quick tasting, the food is very palatable, you don't get overwhelmed but are very satiated by the end. There wasn't a weak course for me - everything was cooked perfectly. Heavy focus on seafood as expected, but there is a main entree (pigeon, or upgrade to a beautiful a5 wagyu cut - what I did). The bread service was amazing (4 types of butter, 2 types of salt, 2 types of olive oil). The amuse were clean and make you excited for the meal. There are 5 options for champagne aperitifs, and a great selection of wines by the glass. The desserts are phenomenal, some of the best I had on my trip, not overly sweet or indulgent but just right. The meal left such an impression that I tried to come back the next day with my husband (no seats left unfortunately); but I did add on a reservation to Paulo's 1 star in Barcelona (Aleia), which showed some similarities to this menu and was also very good. Can't wait to return to SS and Amelia!
