Was it supposed to go straight to my Medstar or some other part of the organization? No matter what, my review was as to the quality care I received in every way - concern, attention, care of my injury, and all around wonderful treatment. Other than a computer glitch, which I doiubt since all I had to do was click the 'post' button, I don't know what happened to it.. I have sent reviews whenever I went to Urgent Care. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME -- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!…read more All Care urgent care on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda advertises "Immediate Care" and "Walk-ins Welcome" on the outside of their building in white lettering on a red background. That's a lot of attention to draw to a claim that's NOT true. I went there because I was sick and needed care--like anyone who chooses an urgent care clinic. I spent nearly an hour filling out registration paperwork and providing medical samples. When I was almost finished, the receptionist casually asked if I wanted to come back in two hours. Of course I said no--if I could wait two hours, I wouldn't be at an "urgent" care. There were 2 patients in the wait area the entire hour plus that I was there, but they were "booked." Then I was told there was suddenly a "glitch" with my insurance--something I have never experienced anywhere else. I calmly asked one basic question: how long until I could be seen? Instead of a clear answer, a little man, with an apparent Napoleon complex, came out and immediately escalated the situation--speaking down to me from below, posturing, and acting as though authority itself was the point. The interaction felt less like healthcare and more like a power trip, after which I was simply told they would not see me at all. This place is disorganized, misleading, and deeply unprofessional. I can't speak to the medical care, since I did not get any, but if the doctors are as bad as their front office help, it's an even better reason to avoid the place. If you are sick and actually need timely care, do yourself a favor and go somewhere that means what it says when it claims to offer "immediate" care.

I've been going to this place for primary care for several years, and had many great experiences…read morewith them pre-covid. Even last year I had a delightful experience getting a physical with a medical practitioner who has since moved on. In retrospect, I can imagine why she might have left. The service has declined severely. I learned this when I tried to get care for a nasty cold within the past month. Ever hear of a place with "Immediate and Primary Care" in their business name that doesn't accept walk-in patients? Now you have. As an added bonus, they don't accept same-day appointments either. On top of these changes, they now require you to choose a PCP...even if your insurance doesn't require it. I was told that last requirement was GW policy -- you be the judge. What's left is a general practitioner's office with longer hours and shorter-tenured practitioners. I suppose this fills a niche, but not nearly as flexibly as an actual immediate and primary care clinic does. Unfortunately, it's hard to fill any care clinic demand in 2024 if the administrative side fails as well. Even if you have a MyChart GW online patient account, you cannot book appointments with them through your account unless you select "New Patient". There is no option to book online as an existing patient. I spent 38 minutes on hold with their phone system before giving up and walking to the office. Taped to the door is a printed sign saying 'NO WALK INS! NO SAME-DAY APPTS! The same sign is printed at the reception desk just in case you missed the message on the outer door. An indifferent (at best) front desk staffer told me she could only find records for me dating to last year, even though I've been a patient there for at least 10 years (and through at least one change in affiliation). Puzzled by these changes, I nonetheless booked a next-day appointment with them. But I had been sick for days: I didn't want to wait. So I found another clinic nearby, where I received the actual immediate care I was looking for. I immediately tried to cancel my appointment with GW 'Immediate' Care, which showed up in my online patient portal. You won't believe this, but *you cannot cancel appointments through the patient portal*. Ye gods! This would be okay if they ever answered the phone. I called to cancel anyway...and of course there was no answer. I left a message that day, then left a second message the following morning. There was no response or update -- all while I continued to receive appointment reminders I no longer needed. It honestly seems as if this place isn't even trying to attract or retain patients anymore. If you want actual immediate care, they tell patients to seek it elsewhere. They don't allow you to make existing patient appointments online (though this might be some kind of glitch). The front desk staff seems apathetic. And since they no longer answer the phone, there's is no reliable way to get common needs met. I hope I can get my medical records by requesting them in-person because I don't plan on seeking care there again.

The nurse took my vitals and then told me to give a urine sample; I had to tell her that this was not a urine test. Then at 11:15, 45 minutes after my appointment and 2 hours after I called to make the appointment, they told me all their test kits that I needed were expired and that I should go to the other Medics USA. They claimed they would call that location to let them know I was coming, but as far as I could tell that did no good, as I still waited over 90 minutes at the second location (where service was even worse, will write a separate review).

I can count on every time I come in getting seen at least 45 minutes after my appointment time despite the place never appearing busy. The male nurse does not know how to take blood properly and not only hit a nerve causing my whole arm to become sore (which never happens if taken properly), but I became extremely sick and light headed because of that and because it was so hot in the office. After I was left with a huge bruise on my arm. The male doctor (I'm bad with names) is one of those doctors that start by naming all the most serious conditions that could possibly be related to your issue first to freak you out and then ends with "or it could be a lab error or fluke". Says you need to come back so he can run a full battery of tests, but then when you do he claims the issue is actually not remotely related to what he originally freaked you out about in the first place. In my case it went from you could possibly have Hepititus C to "Oh it's because you're drinking too much vegan protein powder", but let's take more blood to confirm. All in all I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are in dire need or have no other options.

As I mentioned in my original review it was truly a shocking moment to me that I refused to believe had happened considering how long I have been a patient of NWNP. Northwest Nurse Practitioner Associates to me represented everything that a family practice should embody and that is now missing in the health care system : empathy, compassion, knowledge, detailed-oriented, patience, confidence, trust, passion. I found all of the above qualities visiting Erin every years for the past 7 years and that last encounter (over the phone) with the manager was the complete opposite of what I was accustomed to hence my disbelief. I have the utmost respect for her and what she has built over the years and my decision to update my review is solely based on those 7 years. I do not believe that one incident should erase the consistent positive interactions and great care I have received from NWNP over the years. I want to believe that there was a miscommunication between me and the manager and it was not his intend to make me feel unheard. I appreciate him taking the time to reach out and write an apology email.

And that was true during that time. But something changed significantly as she transitioned to a sort of direct primary care practice and functional medicine practice. The practice seemed more impersonal. For example she tried to direct me away from monitoring my liver scores when I started taking statins. Although she had previously had the position that medications always have risks in promoting alternative medicine considerations and I had told her of my brother's death from non alcoholic cirrhosis due unmonitored prescription of cholesterol medication she tried to talk me out of the monitoring. At one point I had told her I didn't want to die from cirrhosis her reply was that there were worse ways to die.
