Don and his two high school aged sons, Matt and Mark all worked together in the evenings, on the weekends, and in the summers. Don was an Accountant working full time for a local company in addition to running the lawn grading business. In the early 80's, the company began doing small landscaping projects in response to customers requests. Matt got interested in the business and enrolled in the Landscape Architecture program at Ohio State. After college he worked as a landscape designer and then a manager for two of the Midwest's largest landscape contractors. In the process he learned a great deal about how successful landscape companies operated. In 1987, as Mark was finishing his degree in Chemistry, Don, Matt and Mark decided to expand McCoy Landscape into a full time operation.
