Vikings defeat the Patriots - Thanksgiving 2022
    Mary T.

I am a latecomer to football. My sports love is hockey. However, I have grown to love the Canadian Football League (CFL). Now, I can add the National Football League (NFL), too. Specifically, I am a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. The fact that purple is my favourite colour makes going to a Vikings game and supporting the team in my regular attire super simple. I fit in without trying. I got into football when I got laid off from my job in Rochester, MN. I moved back to Winnipeg and started watching CFL games. While living in Rochester, I never once watched an NFL game. It was all hockey. In October of this year, I attended my first Vikings game. It was memorable, exciting, and a lot of fun. The Vikings have a solid team this year with a charismatic new coach. The problem is that the Vikings come back to win most of its games in the fourth quarter and it's highly stressful! If you have a heart condition, perhaps sticking to the final score is safer than watching a Vikings game. I watched the Vikings beat the Bills recenty. I'm so used to cheering for the Bills because Buffalo is across Lake Ontario from me. You might as well cheer for the team closest to you, right? Well, that changed on this particular evening. I also watched the Vikings beat the Patriots on American Thanksgiving. I didn't realize that the top three stars from the Thanksgiving game eat roasted turkey legs at the end of it. It was and is a cool ritual. I also like tying food into any sporting event. The Vikings are currently first in their division. I'm hoping that the team can seal the deal, but it recently lost to the Detroit Lions. Here's to the next game to lock it in. Skol! (474)

The Minnesota Vikings are an interesting team. When you look at Minnesota's all-time win percentage, the Vikings rank in the NFL's top ten for the regular season, but bottom ten for the postseason. This is a franchise that has consistently qualified for the playoffs (though less in the last two decades), but has consistently lost in them as well. Currently, the Vikings hold the NFL record for most playoff losses. Undoubtedly, the Vikings saw the greatest success under Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Bud Grant, who led the team from the 1967 through 1983 seasons as well as a one-off return for the 1985 season. In those 18 seasons, Grant had the Vikings in the playoffs 12 times. In those years, the Vikings won the NFL Championship (1969) and advanced to play in four Super Bowls: IV (1970), VIII (1974), IX (1975), and XI (1977). That was four Super Bowl appearances in eight years and three appearances in four years. The Vikings are tied with the Buffalo Bills for the most Super Bowl appearances (4) without a win. Dennis Green was successful during his tenure as Minnesota's head coach. In 10 seasons, 1992-2001, Green went 97-62 (.610) during the regular season and 4-8 (.333) during the postseason. He had the Vikings in the playoffs eight out of 10 years. After going 0-4 in his first four playoff appearances, he was able to start winning in the playoffs in 1998, leading the Vikings to NFC Championship Game appearances in 1999 and 2001. In the 2010s, the Vikings returned to the NFC Championship Game twice: 2010 and 2018. The 2010 NFC Championship Game (2009 season) was an OT thriller. The eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints won the OT coin toss and won the game on a 40-yard field goal, the only FG in the game: https://youtu.be/-rUp-t386sU. That year, the Vikings were coached by Brad Childress and the team's best player was Adrian Peterson. Peterson was drafted by Minnesota in 2007 (7th overall pick) and went on to become one of the league's best players in the late 2000s and early 2010s. "AP" was the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year and MVP in 2012, led the league in rushing yards in 2008, 2012, and 2015 and led the league in rushing touchdowns in 2009 and 2015. Needless to say, he was always one of the top picks in fantasy football drafts every August/September. The 2018 NFC Championship Game (2017 season) wasn't as close, a 38-7 loss to another eventual Super Bowl champion, the Philadelphia Eagles. Mike Zimmer was the coach of the Vikings at that time. After eight seasons in Minnesota, he was fired after the 2021 season. He'd gone 7-9 then 8-9 in his final two seasons. Kevin O'Connell was hired to be the Vikings' new head coach entering the 2022 season. This will be his first head coaching job.

In honor of my Yelp buddy Bruddah Fran from O'ahu, this review is for you. A promise is a promise. Locals in Hawai'i are a funny bunch when it comes to their favorite NFL team because they don't have a "local" team to support. Unless you count the University of Hawai'i's Rainbow Warriors, which produced plenty of talented and HOF players from this island. And just like a rainbow, locals support almost every NFL team as "their" team, and they stay loyal to that team whether it's the Niners, Packers, Patriots, Raiders or Vikings. I'm a Niners fan, and I'll incorporate tidbits here and there between the two teams. The Minnesota Vikings is a proud franchise that was established in 1960. The Viking is appropriate in honor of the Scandanavian culture, heritage and history that is prominent in Minneapolis area going back hundreds of years even predating Columbus. The Vikings has produced many a Hall of Fame players and they are one of a few franchises who's got an all-time winning record above .500. Speaking of HOF players, Fran Tarkenton was Steve Young before a running and elusive Quarterback became the norm. Back in the day, they criticized his type of play, and it was frowned upon. He certainly was ahead of his time and one of the pioneers in the modern era of QB play. He also had two stints with the Vikings and returned to the team after being traded to Giants. He won MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the year in 1975. I also associate the Vikings with great defense. They had one hell of a nickname with the Purple People Eaters anchored by the great Alan Page, who also became Associate Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court after this playing career. The other members of the vaunted group were Carl Eller, Gary Larsen and Jim Marshall. Speaking Marshall, he was involved in one of NFL's bloopers playing against my Niners at Kezar Stadium on October 25, 1964. He picked-up a fumble and ran the wrong way scoring a safety for the Niners. However, the Vikings still ended up winning that game. But that play became known as the "Wrong Way Run" and part of NFL's history. Speaking of Defense, John Randle was a beast who terrorized QB's and RB's at the old Metrodome. I had great respect for that man, and he surely was also a colorful character. Can't mention Vikings without mentioning Randy Moss. A talented WR who had all the tools necessary to even surpass Jerry Rice, but he was too immature and let's not talk about his stint with the Raiders. He did have a good season with the Niners though under Jim Harbaugh era. Another great WR was Chris Carter. He had a bunch of highlights catching footballs one-handed while falling on the sidelines and staying inbounds. That would have to be his signature move. Adrian Peterson? Enough said. One of the most dominating RB's in the modern era, and if you had him on your Fantasy Football Team, more than likely you were winning your league. Even one of my favorite players growing up ended up playing for the Vikings. As a lifelong Niners fan, it was weird seeing Roger Craig wearing the purple. I remember the Niners played the Vikings and he torched us in that game both as a runner and receiver. Craig should be in the HOF, but that is for another conversation. Have I mentioned that I am a Niners fan? During the 1987 season, the Niners were on roll and didn't lose a game in December and finished with a 13-2 record. They faced the 8-7 Vikings during the playoffs, and everyone expected them to steamroll the men in purple out of town. What followed was a shock and plenty of Anthony Carter (another great WR) TD's and receiving torching our DB's, including Ronnie Lott. The Vikings ended up upsetting the Niners 36-24. To call it an upset was an understatement and that was one of my worst experiences as a fan. I don't think I recovered for several weeks after that. Another memorable game against the Vikes was when Brett Favre was now at helm and led them to a last-second victory September 27, 2009, at the Metrodome with the Niners having a 24-20 lead. With 12 seconds left, Favre avoided pressure and stepped up on the line of scrimmage and threw a bullet 32 yards to the endzone, which Greg Lewis caught for the game-winning TD. A no-name WR who I remember because of this play. Oy vey... But cheer up Vikings fans, you've got some recent miracles of late and the most recent one was the Steffon Diggs last-second TD catch and run against the Saints during the playoffs on January 14, 2018. Forever known as the Minneapolis Miracle. Again, I'm a Niners fan, but even I had to cheer for that miraculous play. Even though he's with the Bills, you got a young stud of a WR in Justin Jefferson. One of the winningest franchises in the league with multiple division titles, playoff wins and runs. Tied with the Bills with Super Bowl appearances but have yet to win the big one. I hope that Bruddah Fran will one day feel and experience the joy and elation of finally winning the Super Bowl.

This is by far the most beautiful NFL stadium I have ever seen! I have been a Bears fan all of my life. Soldier Field, specially since it's renovation, is nice. However, the Vike's stadium is awesome! It looks like a Viking ship and has a smaller Viking ship in front of it. Pictures don't do it justice. It's a must-see if you ever visit Minneapolis.

Well if you are a lifelong Vikings you are used to heartbreak, sorry, but also happiness! I have been lucky enough to witness the great Farve comeback, the unfortunate Gary Anderson kick, and so many other magical moments from the Purple People Eaters.. The best thing about the Vikings they always give you the hope that we could be a super bowl team, and even if our souls get crushed in every new year, it's fun to comeback and cheer you asses off with the rest of the purple pride crew! My dad has had season tickets since the mid 80's so its been a blast growing up traveling hours to see our team! Now that the Cubs have one a World Series, I think the Vikings are due for a Super Bowl! Keep giving us hope!

Minnesota vikings are a class act organization, not only did they allow the Philadelphia Eagles to score 38 unanswered points to win the Nfc championship game ,they were kind enough to provide a clean environment for the Eagles to win Super Bowl 52 in and make US Bank stadium their house , five stars! Highly recommended

The Minnesota Vikings. Skol NFC North Division Yelp Challenge 49/100 Fresh off the press: The Vikings have just signed OT Babatunde, a 6^9 351 lbs a Behemoth of a Man. I won't mention the Herschel Walker trade nor Joe Webb's playoff performance. I like the off-season activities the Vikings made. Mike Wallace is now a Viking. He needs to play like he did for the Steelers. I also like Taylor Mays, I've been a fan of him going back to his USC days. The signing of Shaun Hill was a good one. Dude has been a starter for several teams ( 49ers, Lions & Rams) due to bad play and injury. I'm not really sold on Teddy Bridgewater. The Casey Matthews signing should add some depth to the linebacker unit. So what's going to happen with AP? Trade him to the Cardinals or Cowboys or does he stay? Paging NO# 26 Robert Smith, you retired very young are you available? If you guys do decide to keep AP, the good thing. His body had a year of recovery for anything, rest is good. Unless on the low low, he went James "Buster" Douglas on us and got all fat for his next fight. There is a thing called photo shop. :) Hey it's good seeing C.P.No#84 running up and down the field. It reminds me when Randy Moss was a Viking. It's sucks that Daunte Culpepper tore his ACL in 2005. DC had a kick ass year in 2004, he just was never the same after his injury. This year is pretty much going to revolve around Adrian Peterson. I for one, would like him to remain a Viking. It's cool to see players stay with one team. But in today's NFL, the Vets get jacked. So many teams trying to go younger and cheaper. Making it harder for players to stay on one team. It's like you make to much and then you're gone. Well whatever you guys do, make sure to really have a plan B for the running back position. Vincent D aka VD aka Vebola aka Vincent Vega. Always, Enjoying the simple things in life..

There were food and drink options for everyone no matter your allergies or dining preferences and the food was delicious too. Come time for the game I headed out to watch players warm up and even got to interact a little with them from the sidelines. Being court side you get right up in the action and really get to experience the wild athleticism these players bring. I've said it time and time again, but basketball games, specifically the wolves, is the most entertaining in person sport on the planet. It's non stop action, every commercial break they bring out performers and they run fun and silly events constantly between quarters. The game itself is always fast paced and full of fantastic action no matter which game I watch. Got a wolves fan for life in me!

Since the 2012-13 season, the Minnesota Wild have been almost a perennial playoff team. However,…read morethe Wild have routinely lost in the first or qualifying rounds. They've yet to get over the hump and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. The closest the team got was in 2003. That year, they got swept by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (now the Anaheim Ducks), 4-0, in the Western Conference Finals. That said, all things considered, the Wild haven't done bad considering they're one of the NHL's youngest teams (founded in 2000). Only the Vegas Golden Knights (2017) and Seattle Kraken (2021) are newer. The Wild play at Xcel Energy Center, located in the Northwestern Precinct of Downtown St. Paul. The arena is referred to as "The X" and it opened in 2000. It was built specifically so St. Paul could get an NHL team. With a seating capacity of about 18,000, the X is in-line with most other NHL venues (15-20k seats). In team history, former Wild players Mikko Koivu and Marian Gaborik are probably the most well-known as both are ranked in the top two in terms of total points and goals scored. Koivu, who is from Finland, has also recorded the most games for the Wild at an even 1,000. Today, the Wild's best-known players are left-winger Zach Parise and defensemen Ryan Suter and Jared Spurgeon. Parise and Suter were both members of the silver-medal-winning US hockey team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (Suter's dad was on the famous 1980 team that beat the Soviet Union). Since joining the team in 2012, both Parise and Suter have been key cogs in the Wild's consistent run of playoff appearances. Currently, both are alternate captains. Spurgeon first signed with the Wild earlier, in 2010, and recently signed a $53 million extension that will see him in Minnesota through the 2026-27 season. He and fellow defenseman Jonas Brodin are presently locked up the longest, contract-wise. The four aforementioned players are among the team's highest-paid at this time.

As a result, I have a soft spot for this team. I got cable TV when I first settled in my apartment. However, I wasn't getting a ton of NHL hockey games. I was a huge hockey fan back then. I put the FAN in FANatic. I ended up changing my cable plan to basic and got the NHL game package with DIRECTV, which wasn't AT&T back then, but is now. The guy over the phone was saying that I get NFL games with my base package, which was probably a decent selling point to most Americans. I remember saying to him, "I don't care about football. I need hockey games!" Anyway, I was pleased watching local Wild games on the lone, local FOX channel whenever they were available, and all the away games on DIRECTV. Anyone remember Mike Goldberg, one of the play-by-play Wild hockey announcers on FOX? He always pronounced the last syllable of every word. Some examples: "Hi, I'm Mike Goldber-guh." "Goal by Gabori-k!" "Dow-d is in the faceoff circle." I understood the pain of losing an NHL team and getting it back. I went through it with the Winnipeg Jets. Minnesota lost its Stars team, which ended up in Dallas. When Minnesota got the Wild as its new NHL team, you knew it was the right decision. Minnesotans are diehard hockey fans. They are passionate and breathe hockey. The fanbase is loyal and strong to this day. The team's tagline is fitting and meaningful: Our state. Our team. Our ice. I couldn't get a ticket to see a game at the Xcel Energy Center as a resident of the state. I ended up putting a deposit on season tickets and returned to Canada, forgetting about this deposit for eons... until now. I recently got a game pack and went to my first Wild game. Miracles happen! The Wild have struggled to make it into the playoffs. I hope that they will someday as they continue getting the right mix of players. This year's team has a good mix of experience and talent. I am pleased to support the Wild. Xcel Energy Center is a great place to take in a hockey game. There isn't a bad seat in the house. It's fun and exciting! The food is decent. Minnesota's 2020 team lost, 3-2, to the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference Finals. Despite not making it to the final game, Minnesota's Kevin Molino ended up as the top goalscorer in the 2020 playoffs with 4 goals. Christian Ramirez is the team's all-time top goalscorer with 74 goals scored during his time with the team from 2014 to 2018. However, most of those goals were scored during Minnesota's time in the North American Soccer League (NASL), not MLS. If you count MLS-era goals only, Darwin Quintero owns the team record with 27 goals scored between 2018 and 2019. Robin Lod and Emmanuel Reynoso are the guys to keep your eyes on these days. And speaking of the MLS era, Adrian Heath, who came over from Orlando City SC, has been the team's coach every season so far. Good for the Loons for sticking by Heath for five seasons now. Since the stadium's opening in 2019 (Minnesota's third season), the team has played in Allianz Field in downtown St. Paul. Allianz Field was designed specifically for Minnesota United.
