Josh was incredibly personable, answered all of my questions and was sure that I completely understood everything he shared with me. He genuinely cares about the people he trains I can tell! I left feeling more confident in my knowledge and skills brought back up. Obviously I will continue training as with this it is vital to keep sharp, but I am so glad I went through Josh! As a woman I would certainly recommend them. I took the online course to renew my permit. I was pleasantly surprised how informative it was. I learned more this time then my first in person class somewhere else. The in person shooting portion was fantastic. Both gentleman were very respectful, and didnt dismiss me because I was a woman. (During my first permit class which I did elsewhere, the trainer called me "little lady" I'm in my 60's and was older then him .) The range is really nice. Would assign less than one star if that was an option. This was my first time doing the on-line class. A lot of good information provided. I completed all required components of the on-line option. All was good until the day I drove to the actual site to complete the "live fire" with an instructor. I waited more than 30-minutes to be 'acknowledged' as the focus appeared to be on customers looking to purchase firearms. When he eventually "helped" me, the guy seemed super annoyed. Slid a piece of paper across the glass countertop for me to sign. Little or no communication about what came next, or what I was supposed to do. Once I had gone back to the shooting range, there was still no communication and he continued to give the impression I was bothering him. The employee left me feeling unsure about next steps. He was super focused (?) on me sweeping up my own shell casings and then he disappeared. No feedback about what I'd just demonstrated on shooting technique. No feedback about next steps. He handed me my paperwork / signed documents and I left. I called the store yesterday, leaving a voice mail asking about when to expect my conceal and carry card. My call was returned, and I must say I was shocked at the arrogance and his tone. He said "I'm alarmed that you may not have even taken the course" "you should know that you need to bring your certificate to the Ramsey County Sheriff (and I admit I forgot this was part of the process). But for him to immediately jump to the conclusion that I'd not taken the course was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I will not be returning to this business in the future. Knowledgeable, kept my attention with humor but also knew when to get serious and ensure we all understood the weight of the responsibility and laws that we must abide by. I'm a Marine Corps recruit, and I recently had the privilege of taking a pistol and rifle session with Josh, a seasoned Marine and firearm instructor. I signed up for the permit-to-carry class based on the "buy one, get one" offer, so my wife could join me. I was getting a renewal, she joined me for her first time. It got off to a rough start and never made up for it. First, Mike, the owner, was absolutely adamant that class attendees could not share firearms for the shooting portion. Since my renewal was coming up, I didn't have time to accept his refund offer and find another class, I had to get it done with, so we rented one from him for my wife to use. The class itself was way too rushed. Being my second renewal, I've been through permit-to-carry classes before. They should be 3.5-4 hours of class time, then some shooting time at the range. These guys crammed the classroom time into about an hour and a half. While it might sound nice to get the requirement for the permit done in an hour and a half, it's really not smart. You're getting a permit to carry a gun, you should know what your responsibilities are. Mike's attitude was also less than impressive. There are two kinds of permit-to-carry instructors in Minnesota: the ones who love training others to be safe and responsible gun owners, and the ones who act like God's gift to permit-to-carry. Mike is definitely the latter. Not only is he shortchanging you on the class, rushing you in & out, he spends a lot of time puffing up why he's the best guy to take the class with. He has all the tough questions answered, with the case law to back it up. To further demonstrate his haughty attitude, he verbally attacked one fellow student in the class I attended when the guy had a question. The guy made the mistake of mentioning that he was also a renewal, and Mike would not let him finish his question until the guy told him who he took his previous class with (which was completely irrelevant to the question, and only served to dissuade others from asking questions.) We finished our evening back with the same issue we started with. Not only would he not permit my to share my gun with my wife at the range, he went out of his way to make sure we weren't shooting in adjacent lanes. He apparently thinks that husbands who have been through his class should be able to carry guns in public for five years, but they're not smart enough to work with wives without shooting holes in the wall. It's this condescending and haughty attitude that has forever lost me as a customer, and has led me to do what I can to dissuade others from patronizing his business. He provided the service that he charged us for, which is what got him one more star than the least I could give, but I would not recommend him to others, and would not go back. Being my wife was getting her permit for the first time, we're in the market for another carry pistol for her, and I won't be buying one from Mike's shop. read more

I talked to Mike and actually did not take his class. I took the online class. Now I personally have read negative reviews concerning Mike. I am ex-military. I am going to give you a straight forward review concerning Mike and his store and how he does things. For those of you that said he talked too fast in class- there is an online option. Learn at your own pace then. Yes, you will have to do a 'shoot' after your class, or after you complete the online class (you simpley you print out your certificate after the online class- call Mike and schedule a shoot). Its the law people. You have to do a shoot. And yes the range is a whole maybe only 5 miles straight north and the range is right off the road(I saw neg reviews that you had to do a shoot at a diff location. Personally you will get hooked on thaty indoor range and won't regret going to that indoor range--I personally will be going to that range often now). You can't miss it. Mike's website is set up in a way that everything you need to know about carrying a firearm and how to get a license is on his website. All the maps that your C/C will be good for depending on if you get a MN only ilcense or you want to add FL Or you want to add Utah). He even has links to the Sherifs offices so you can simply see the address, go there and file after you have your certificate signed and have done your shoot with Mike. All prices are clearly there(website). All instructions, on what you need to do if you want a FL license are clearly there(noted you will have to get finger printed if you apply for the FL license- the most popular option as you will be able to carry in more states). Again, he gives you instructions in a paper formate where to go after your shoot as well for the FL license (in my case the Anoka jail did my finger prints. To get 2 sets of prints it will cost you $20 to get finger printed). The whole process for the shoot-finger printings at the Jail in Anoka, which is at most 10 minnutes from Mike's store and going to the Sherif's office took me about a half day. I have read some negative things about Mike and he rushes things in class or he talks to fast. AGAIN: take the online class. I have read "Mike was short with me". People we all have our days. Mike is a fast talking person. That is just his style. He will answer any question you throw at him. You call him and leave him a message and he calls you right back. From my military experience, I would give this store and Mike a STRONG 5 out of 5 stars. He is extremely knowledgeable. His website is easy to navigate. He makes it easy for you with links on a well designed website to get answers and find places you will need to go to after your class(s) or your shot. read more

Terrible customer service. Unable to manage his own schedule. The owner of the company is negligent and makes personal attacks towards customers for his own mistakes. After speaking to the owner personally over the phone to sign up for the $750 training course, I had driven 87 miles to his facility where he was a no show. Once I called to see if he was running late, the owner of the company only left me with a "sorry, my bad. You should reschedule". After mentioning that I would reschedule only if he could discount the price to compensate for my mileage and wasted time, he said he doesn't do that and proceeded to tell me that maybe I'm "just not cut out for this". I took this class in late May. I really enjoyed this class for its small size and attention to detail. I'm a beginner with firearms and was worried that I would get lost in the shuffle or that the instructor would get annoyed at questions from a beginner. But Mike, the instructor, was courteous, respectful and knowledgeable. He kept the class moving along quickly, and got us out to the range for testing on time. The requirements to pass were spelled out clearly as were the things that would get you failed immediately. I'd recommend this course especially if you are a beginning student and want an instructor who won't condescend to you and has the patience to instruct rather than just get people passed through with a certificate. Mike really seems to care that his students are prepared to handle a firearm SAFELY when they leave, and he was conscientious enough to remind students that just because they took a class and get a permit does not mean they are automatically ready to conceal carry. He stressed the importance of practicing to improve performance and get comfortable handling a weapon. As an aside, I'm told Sunday is a good day for class if you are looking for a smaller class size. read more

My husband and I went to the class we did the live fire my husband passed and I didn't because Jenn "didn't feel comfortable giving me the certificiate". I have my permit to purchase so I went out and bought a better gun since I have such small hands and I emailed them after I practiced a few times and i had just asked out of cursity if i could use a bigger target since I'm near sighted and they said no which I understood. I felt like they were trying to pressure me into using a glock which I have a problem using. Jenn was willing to put our differences aside and let me redo the live fire then a few hours later she changed her mind. Mike said that I was rude and I didn't answer his email right away. I have school so I have been super busy and I told him I wanted to try it again since I'm ready now. He told my husband to stay out of it when he was trying to defend me he also sort of thought that my grandpa passing away the other was funny. read more

I will just say that you will probably have a better customer service experience visiting another store that has a more professional attitude about the business they do, whether it's something they profit off of or not. My dad used this dealer to send a handgun to me in another state. It took about three months to complete, about a month of that is my fault because I have two jobs and almost no free time. I contacted the store it was to be sent to, and attempted to call mn firearms. The number is listed on the business' Google page, along with the business hours for the day stating they were still open. There was no answer so I left a message. I called my dad and asked him to go to the store because I wasn't able to get through. The store owner's daughter sent their FFL license along and the store I was in sent theirs as well,while my dad was in the store in Anoka. They said it would ship next day. I got a call that night from the shop owner asking what I wanted, and I said that it had been handled by the person at the store that day, and that I didn't mean to wait so long. The guy was kinda brutish so I'm sure I didn't leave a lot of room for his bad attitude- which he attributed to being out of town because of a dying family member. I apologized and said that it was fine as long as the gun shipped. He hung up on me. I didn't review then, because I didn't know if the gun was shipped or not. I called the local gun store here about 3 weeks later, because I heard it could take some extra time to process in addition to the shipping. So I called mn firearms back. This time I actually spoke to Mike who was already mad that the gun was still at his shop. I was too, if you can imagine that. I told him the date of the license transfer, the fact that it was a female employee that sent the email, the email of the employee here and the rough time of day. He said my dad had been in there upset and asking fo rd his money back but that his phone number didn't work. I told Mike that I was happy to get in touch with my dad or give him his number but by this point he had grown exceptionally frustrated with me,probably because I continued to call him on how he didn't care about this process because he was only making a couple bucks. I told him my parents would be in later to get their money back. I can only speak for the conversations I had with him, but can let you know that my parents expressed that his tone and dealings with him were very similar. My parents are both the nicest people you could ever come across but this guy rubbed them so wrong that my dad could not talk about the situation without becoming very angry. Mike is wildly unprofessional and rude unless you are making him money. If you visit the Google listing and read the reviews there, you will see that he does treat people with questions and concerns about the business dealings he does very poorly. 10 dollar sales and thousand dollar sales should be approached equally. This guy clearly makes his money packing those CCW trainings and rushing through classes, not from state to state transfers. He let us know that repeatedly. I am willing to bet he will leave a scathing reply to this review with a statement about my character that he will say is substantiated by the local dealer here in Florida. They have already assured me that they don't speak about their customers in such a way that he described to my parents. No business should speak poorly of their customers to others under any circumstances. If you don't want calls on weekends you can always set your business line to ring on someone else's phone. It's not rocket science, neither was this weapon transfer. If you have to do this type of transfer, I anticipate that it will be taken care of remarkably differently and better by any other store that sells guns. read more

Both my daughter and I took the class and were very impressed. Michael goes through a lot of information in a reasonable amount of time, allowing people to learn what they need to. Personal and political opinions are kept out of the class making it a professional, respectful learning environment. Good humor and real life examples keeps the training interesting throughout. Took their conceal & carry class...am feeling like I got ripped off. The class was "on sale" for $99, but by the time I added up gun rental, range fee, ammo & ear & eye protection, I spent $160 or so. I think I could've found something comparable for cheaper. Also, the class was super short - seemed like the Cliff Notes version of what's needed to know about conceal & carry (unless it really is that easy...then no wonder America has the highest number of gun related deaths! Eek). Also, beware that MN Firearms doesn't have a shooting range, so you will leave and drive to a separate shooting range. And then wait for others to "test" out (as if the instructors were actually paying attention) if you aren't in the first group of people. The fact that you will be going to a separate location for the range was not indicated on their website & really should've been. Basically, the place is a one-room gun store. I felt like they were trying to drum up business by offering the class. My advice: go elsewhere. read more

I arrived for their conceal & carry course to find the door locked. I called the number listed online and got owner Mike Briggs, who had forgotten he was supposed to be teaching that night. I was one of 6 people standing outside waiting. Mike said there would be no class and did not offer anything to make up for his mistake. I expressed my displeasure (admittedly using a 4-letter word) and hung up. Mike called me back several times, threatening to hurt me. I took this class in February 2016. Excellent class given by Mike. He moved very quickly but information was very good. He answered all questions although not many were asked. I think people were a little intimidated by him. He was very concerned with keeping the class moving along. Also be warned that you cannot share a gun when you go to the gun range to shoot. My husband and I took the class together and intended to share a gun. No way would he allow this. He very loudly explained that it would slow down the whole group and that it states to bring a gun on his website. There were 25 people in this class and only 9 shoot at a time. It would have been very easy to put us in different groups. I think there was 4 of us that didn't have our own gun. The charge to rent a 22 pistol was $40. I pointed out to him that it should be stated that Each person must have their own gun on his website so there isn't any confusion, we weren't the only ones intending to share. I think it is intentional that it isn't stated this way on the website by the way he kept referring to the website saying to bring a gun,so he can make the extra money. The 22 I shot could have been rented at the range for $15 plus shells ($5?). The 2 for 1 offer I signed up under didn't turn out that way after the added expense. Overall I was pleased with the experience but not the added expense. Also I was surprised that he didn't check anyone's ID and that we wrote our own names on our certificates that we received before class. read more
