Bill's is the best Range I've found in the northern Minneapolis area. I shoot at Circle Pines regularly, my Bronze membership is more than covered with the money I save on lane rental. I've rented two handguns to test fire, again, my membership saves me money, but the regular price isn't beyond average costs elsewhere. Bills also has days of the week where lanes and firearm rental are discounted for senior citizens, youth and female shooters. Ammunition, yes. It can be somewhat higher priced than buying in bulk on-line or waiting for a sale at a sporting goods store. Even as a member, I pay full price for the rounds of ammunition I use through a rental firearm. I don't have a problem with this, remembering I'm firing one of their firearms. Requiring instore purchase keeps ammunition an absolute factor: this is reasonable. It also prevents an individual from firing some inferior quality or self-loaded rounds which might damage the firearm. I've sold two relatively new firearms at Bills and received a very fair price. Much better than I could have received at a pawn shop. The potential offer was explained to me, a flat percentage based on the salable value. No surprises. The manager at Circle Pines is generally in during the mid to late afternoon so the process might take some time but I had cash in my hand same day. I'm fully satisfied with the purchases I've made. I could have paid a few dollars less, could just as easily paid a few more. What matters is the way the individual guns were presented to me, compared for me, and explained. Excellent customer service! I've also found it easy to get advice, especially when considering an optic. Red dot, green dot, field of view. I'm farsighted and that became part of the discussion to find the right item. I've also asked at the counter for an opinion about bore laser zeroing, something I had just learned about. The only downside to the Circle Pines shop is they don't have a gunsmith on site. Robbinsdale does, and the work done there is first rate: installing night sights on a subcompact pistol, a new grip assembly on a compact. In my experience, turnaround time is negligible. If you want to get raped of your money to shoot a few rounds go to this range. Terrible and rude staff and they charged us 50$ per box of rounds. Not sure if the worker charged us extra or if this is what they usually charge but the pricing is diabolically horrendous. If i could give 0 stars I would. I have always had a positive, respectful experience here. They never treated me differently because I am a female, as some other places have. They were helpful when I used their range and when I purchased a handgun a few years ago, helping me choose the best one for my form, intended use and budget. When I returned recently to sell a gun, they were extremely helpful and gave me good advice. If the person greeting you doesn't know the answer, they will immediately find someone who does. After having talked to the owner a second time and having more information that I previously was not made aware of, and I am glad I now have it, I have amended my review to reflect the way I think about my experience with Bill's Gun Shop And Range. What started off as customer service issue, has morphed into a professional issue where it seems the ranges in the twin cities are seeing their insurance policies change and any freelance instructors are made to cover the difference. While this does not change my experience with what happened, it changes my perception of this industry as it seems the banks, the lawyers and the insurance industry are all colluding to destroy a fundamental, constitutionally guaranteed God given right. While some might think that this industry is run with a cavalier attitude, I can assure you that it is not. I work in this industry as an instructor and from my own experience it has always been a very serious business. Now, it seems that in order to make it more expensive, the banks, the insurance companies and bureaucrats have made it even more costly for small and large businesses to operate. Had I known that this is an industry wide issue my initial review would have been much more fair handed. This range like all of the ones in the country are experiencing a concerted effort to make exercising your right more difficult. To the point to where it would just be too expensive or troublesome so that you would give up that right. As an American, that to me is outright treacherous. So remember that when you hit the range. The people who own those ranges and have to deal with a highly regulated industry are fighting a battle you do not know until you find yourself fighting it with them. read more

I don't understand how large caliber rifles are allowed in stalls that are so close to me shooting my 22lr pistols. Gives me a head ache and I feel concussed when I walk out! Are there certain days for rifles only, or, for small caliber pistols and revolvers? I like the range except for the noise and concussions! read more

Good range, although I've only been to a handful. The staff was really nice and helpful, especially with my guest who had never shot any type of gun before. Really great prices, even on rented guns and ammo. I liked that I could shoot my shotgun here also, don't always have time or money for skeet shooting. This place is the fast food of gun ranges! It's hit and miss. The last few times I've been there the range itself has been a mess with casings everywhere. I guess their too busy to do a quick 3 min sweep or hold any accountable for not cleaning up after themselves. My last time in there I traded in a gun and bought a used gun out or their display case. It literally took an hour and it wasn't because of the 4473 background check. That was done within 5-10 min. The guy helping me was new and had no idea what to do, but most of his coworkers were of no help. The long haired one literally stopped helping midway to go show off a rifle to some women and left the new guy standing there not knowing what to do. When the purchase was finally complete, a heavy set fellow with a dolphin or something on his forearm finished it up and never said bye, thanks, kiss my butt or anything. He also had no idea how to case up a Glock. I used to make fun of all of the tactical pants-wearing dbags there and I still will. If they had any talent in the gun industry they wouldn't be working at Bills! read more

Range ammo is overpriced....almost double retail/normal cost due to the convenience of onsite ammo availability. Not fair granted we pay the range fee. No staff members in the range to monitor. It seemed as if they solely rely on cameras. I didn't get a friendly feel from the staff coming in as a first time client. I will explore other ranges but I doubt I'd be back here anytime soon. read more

If you're looking for a complete full service firearms range this is your place. They offer pistol and riffle ranges and they have firearm rentals. All of their lanes are video monitored and they are very strict on safety rules here. That's important. They offer firearm safety classes, Carry Permit classes, and leagues. Staff not Wearing Masks I was at Bill's to purchase a firearm on October 1. While standing in line I noticed that the dozen or so customers were all masked. The three salespersons were not. The two behind counters had masks over their mouths but under their noses. This is the same as not wearing a mask at all, according to doctors. The third salesperson was walking around the store among the customers with his mask around his neck, not on his face. When my turn came I asked the salesperson to please cover his nose. He slid the mask up over his nose and it immediately came back down where he left it, and just looked at me. I left without making a purchase. read more

I went there to purchase a pistol. The first questions the salesman asked were "what kind of pistol are you looking for" and "approximately how much are you looking to spend". He kept within my budget and requirements and was very helpful and patient. it was obvious that he was passionate about his craft. He also was very familiar with the regulations regarding sale of firearms. I have attended their range and also found the staff very helpful. Works for me, when I can't get to the cabin.:D I've been going to Bills Circle Pines or Robbinsdale since 2010, for shooting, and to take a series of classes. I've also been to shoot at or taken classes at Gander Mt Academy (Lakeville). But I'll admit 99% of my shooting is by preference at our cabin up north. :D It's pretty tough to do any practical defense drills or work, if you can't draw from a holster or move while shooting. OK to be fair, Bill's CP did allow limited drawing from holster for an Advanced Pistol course I took several years ago (as did Gander, for a Combat Focus Shooting course). But back to Bills CP: My most recent visit was last Friday, with my wife. She's been to Bill's Robbinsdale, but this was her first visit to CP -- first visit to a range at all in roughly four years. Our primary goal was to let my wife get some rounds through my 9mm, prior to taking it to an upcoming class (at Burnsville Pistol Range). We went mid afternoon and managed to catch a nice slow period when lanes were readily available. We had to wait while another customer rented and checked out a lane, but once we got to the counter, the clerk was pleasant & respectful. We rented a lane and some ears (forgotten ours at home), and grabbed a silhouette target. Fee was $32. The clerk examined my case & gun, ran through the rules, and asked if we had any questions. No hassles, or intense eye-balling. :D Oh, and no requirement that we unload and manually reload all magazines (as is the case at Burnsville, where they check your ammo with a magnet). I'm not a big fan of burning range time manually loading mags that I could have easily loaded at home. Range was fine. I let my wife do most of the shooting. Got through seven mags (~100 rounds). Range equip worked fine, easy to use target holders (simple rocker switch: 'forward to advance down range, 'back' to bring it back toward you). Simple, not-intimidating. Non-frustrating for my wife. Other clientelle were quiet and stayed to their lanes. There wasn't any cardboard available to back the targets - nice to have but not a deal breaker. I like Bills. (especially Circle Pines). It's low-key, staff has consistently been fine and low-key, non-attitudinal. None of the down-the-nose looking you get at some ranges if you aren't a frequent regular. :D We both had a good time, I'll definitely be going back - well, until cabin season, and then it's back to the woods! :D read more

This was my first ever visit of a shooting range. Definitely awesome place. The shooting range staff is very friendly and professional. He gave me advice on guns and provided very detailed information about rules of the range and usage of the gun. I was bit by the magazine when I was inserting it back in. Then, when I was returning the gun he saw I was bleeding and offered me a band aid. It's a very small thing but it's very impressive. Went to Bills Gun Shop and Range today. It was a chaotic mess just to check in. Bill's, like so many other ranges, have a safety video and a waiver that needs to be signed prior to accessing the gun range. The problem is, most people don't do this online prior to arrival. We waited 35 minutes in line while those ahead of us watched the video. It would have been far more efficient to let these people step aside, out of line, watch the video, complete the waiver form, and then step back in. And to top this off, the young man at the register checking everyone in was the only one willing to answer the phone even though there were 5 other employees. Tgis furtger delayed thw check in process. A nightmare. But...once finally checked in, the range seemed fine. All safety features were in place and the range master was engaged with the "new to hand gun" crowd helping them when and where needed. He even un jammed a 40 cal glock loaded with 9mm ammo. He was good. Very good. Just need to workout some inefficiencies atvthe front of the store. read more

Well, where do I begin....first of all great selection Zach the guy who was working behind the counter was helpful and didn't make me feel like an idiot for not being all that knowledgable about handguns or the caliber I was looking for. Everything was great up until that point. I knew the gun I was interested in and headed over to the indoor gun range area. As I was looking into case that displayed the rental guns available I hear someone off to my right another worker who was working the gun range counter making a comment "my field boots weren't as shinny as those" apparently talking about my boots (they were new). I couldn't understand why he even started a conversation that way. I guess he was upset I was wearing combat boots and not be a service member??? His attitude was horrible and he never offered any assistance an absolute asshole. I took my $1200 elsewhere. read more
