    Old cylinder head
    Ian R.

I took my 2010 mini clubman in for a cylinder misfire that 2 other shops could not fix and the local dealer said I'd need a whole new $10K motor. Andy at Miniwerks proposed multiple solutions he'd tested with other customers to find the most cost effective solution to the issue. Turns out patience paid off. He replaced the cylinder head assembly, replaced the clutch at the same time, fixed the A/C and front brakes at a great price. The car I loved but almost gave up hope on is almost as good as new. Thanks Andy! Not only is Andy a skilled mini mechanic, he is very thoughtful and kind. I wouldn't take the car anywhere else.

I've been meaning to write a review so here goes. I took my R53 MCS project car to Andrew on recommendation from the mini forums and yelp. My R53 needed a new supercharger, so I had Andrew of Mini Werks replace it along a few other parts; remanufactured supercharger from detroit tuned, 15% pulley reduction, water pump, colder spark plugs, fix minor power steering hose leak, and some things im forgetting. After I picked up my car it sounded so much better (quieter). But unfortunately on the drive home I shredded my serpentine belt because of the new found power and likely old belt. First thought when your car breaks down after having in the shop is to blame the mechanic, but this was not his fault. I should have replaced the belt at the same time. So I had my car towed back to the shop and left it and the keys over night. He installed an ati super damper, belt (seals, bolt, belt), tensioner poly bushings, cam sensor. He worked with me on sourcing for parts and if the price was better online he said so. I bought most parts from mini stores online and he installed them; mechanics dont have to do this and often dont. Anyway, since then I've put over 1,500 miles with no issues. There are no inexpensive indy shops specializing in mini's but Andrew's prices were fair and he's very knowledgeable and honest, imo. I also had him perform inspection I and he gave me his honest opinion on the condition of my car. Only downside for me is his location being in San Carlos because I live in the east bay. I will definitely be using his services in the future for repairs I can't do myself. He made me feel like my car was the only one he was working on and actually chatted with me about the car for a bit after I paid for the work. Andrew is what we all want in a mechanic.

They told me what would be involved and that they would not be able to work on it without it costing a fortune. A less than honest shop might've tried to soak me for a repair job that ends up costing more than expected. I know, because others have tried that. These guys gave me an honest appraisal, and I remembered that when choosing a shop to work on my wife's car. We had just bought a 2006 BMW 330 ci, and like clockwork, just after the 30-day warranty expired, we had problems. It had just rained torrentially for three straight days and unbeknownst to us, the drainage ports in the trunk were completely clogged, allowing water to build up and penetrate to the electrical system. We noticed the dash lights, indicators, and steering wheel controls did not work. We brought it to Toole's with the hope that it was something easily diagnosed and fixed. It wasn't. To keep an already long story from getting much longer, I will just say that it was a 4-day-long diagnosis as the problem component(s) were not easily found, even with advanced diagnostic equipment. They sought out expert advice from other professionals who specialize in BMWs. The problem component was found and replaced. I originally agreed to three hours of labor, but since it went as long as it did, I happily agreed to an extra hour. So essentially, they stuck to the agreement plus a reasonable additional amount. I tried to add on a tip but they wouldn't accept it. We bought them pizzas instead. I recommend this shop because they're honest, friendly professionals who seem to really want to help out their customers while running a respectable business.

I found Clarity, which luckily is a very short drive from my house. They were extremely communicative and transparent throughout the entire process. Did a full inspection on top of the issues that I brought it in for and they made recommendations, but I did not feel pressured to make any decisions. Ultimately I got everything done anyway and they were so quick. They sent photos of the car and photos confirming the issues they found as well. Not a shady shop at all in my opinion. I also brought it in on a Monday morning, the car was ready by I think Thursday or Friday that week. After dealing with my car sitting at the dealer for months with little to no communication, this was a HUGE relief for me. So I decided to bring it in again to get my new rims installed. Literally within a couple hours the car was ready to be picked up, the process was super easy overall. These guys will be my go to for any future repairs or general maintenance that I need from now on. I highly recommend them. Thank you to the entire team at Clarity for coming through and getting everything done in such a timely manner.

Unprofessional communication and questionable billing practices…read more Based on my recent experience regarding an AC repair, I recommend avoiding Clarity at all costs. I brought my vehicle in for a diagnosis and received a four-item quote (compressor, condenser, lines, and recharge). I originally accepted this quote with an agreed-upon completion of the end of the next business day. The issues began with communication: Late-stage changes: At 5:20 PM the day before the work was set to commence, I received a text stating the parts supplier had changed, the price had increased, and the timeline was being extended. They also requested a deposit despite not doing so earlier. Lack of transparency: When I asked for a breakdown of the price increase, I was simply sent a link to a long PDF rather than a clear explanation or a phone call to discuss the new terms. The most concerning part of the experience: Because I had not yet approved the new, higher quote or the extended timeline, I messaged them the following morning to decline the job. I was told they had already removed my compressor. Management's stance was that because I had originally approved the "items" on the first quote, they were entitled to start work on those specific parts--even though the total project cost and timeline had changed and I had not signed off on the revised estimate. The shop manager told me I needed to "take accountability" and that this was a "me problem." I was ultimately charged an hour labor just to get my car back. If you value clear communication and a pleasant customer service experience, avid Clarity Auto at all costs. It's genuinely the worst customer experience I've had.

After I got a check engine light, Artec Automotive determined that the issue would cost at least $2,500 to repair. Instead of encouraging me to do the repair, I was advised to avoid the repair, given the car was getting up there in miles and may have required much more repairs shortly after. I ended up selling the car shortly after. I have never had a company advise me NOT to do a repair that would have generated plenty of revenue for the company just for the labor fee alone. This act of honesty was so incredible because I am used to mechanics ripping people off. Artec is the best Automotive company I have ever worked with, for their honesty & transparency, for their overall value, and for their knowledge of vehicles which they freely give to customers like me. If in doubt where to go for your car needs, look no further than Artec. This company does much more than car repair - they handle tinting as well as performance upgrades and car audio, in addition to diagnostics and repair.
