Monika @ Mingle is the absolute best ever. I followed her from the salon she was previously at and continue to be impressed with how sweet, caring, professional and amazing her work is. I went from a basic bob to a short pixie cut and I would only trust her with it. She always asks detailed questions about how to do my hair and if I have any preferences which I love when I start working with someone new to me. Now I just ask her in return what would look best and she delivers every time. I have yet to be disappointed by anything she does. If you're looking for a color expert who will work absolute magic on your hair, then Michael Danielson is your guy! I'm a busy, young professional who previously lived in large cities (Chicago, Indianapolis, and Phoenix). So I was nervous about finding a color expert when I moved to Tucson since it's a lot smaller. After contacting numerous salons and inquiring about their stylists' color background/training, I found Michael. Let me tell you - he does not disappoint! Michael has extensive training on all things color and stays very current with color trends. He's great at educating his clients. And he's also a rock star when it comes to advising clients on what color shades with complement their look and skin tone. I haven't met too many people who can do that... I'm a brunette so getting my hair highlighted just right can be tricky. Not for Michael. He consistently goes above and beyond to provide "wow" color for me. I'd enjoyed having Monika cut my hair but then she moved away! She recommended Christina, who cut my hair on Tuesday. Another friend with curly hair recommended Christina so I thought I was good to go. I have medium-long curly-wavy hair. I asked for long concave layers, for the top layer to not be cut so it could fit into my ponytail, for 2" off the bottom, and for it to be blown smooth at the end. Christina washed my hair just fine. When I sat in the chair she pulled out 3-4" of hair and asked if that was okay as two inches. I told her that was more like 3.5" so she showed me 2" and I said okay. She cut the strangest chunky layers at various angles into my hair and shortened the top layer such that I now have a halo of unmanageable frizz whenever I put my hair up. I could not wear this haircut down if I tried. She then blew my hair dry to a coarse non-smooth texture (strange) then proceeded to use a flat iron to straighten it (what?!). I looked like I'd walked off the set of a teen comedy or prom from the early 2000's. I've been getting my hair cut for years at various salons and no one uses a flat iron to finish hair: they blow dry it using a round brush to get volume and a smooth finish. I now have a weird haircut that is beyond repair that I have to live with for months until it grows out and I can find someone else to fix it. Not going back to Mingle. The haircuts from Monika were a deal at $35, but $38 for this job from Christina was not worth it. Also, her license at the chair is expired. read more

Got a wax from Crystal today. She is simply amazing! She gave me a brazillian ($40 on saturdays) and waxed my lower arms. It was much less painful than other waxes I have had at other places, and way smoother too. Mingle was clean and pretty as well. Worth the drive and worth the money. I've been looking all my life for a good curly hair hairstyler since it is extremely difficult to find one that doesn't just cut it like straight hair, or as most of them do, offer you to iron it as if curls weren't "normal" or "natural". This salon is fantastic! They have changed management a few times in the past few years but throughout the adjustments they stay loyal to their customers. I am always able to get an appointment for wax, nails or hair quickly and I am never disappointed. They do only have one or two pedicure chairs working even though there are 4 in the salon. It never has been a problem but may be difficult for a group outing to get pedicures. I see Jessica Robinson-Kines. She is a delight and I always leave the salon feeling gorgeous. I usually destroy manicures in 48 hours or less. At Mingle, I got a Groupon for a Shellac Manicure and I am impressed! It lasted for more than two weeks and was gorgeous. The nail tech started pushing back my cuticles without soaking them first so many of my cuticles were red and bleeding and they hurt. I love the magic that Michael Danielson performs with cuts and colors. I can honestly say that as I have rather 'fussy hair' (natural wave that can turn to frizz easily) his cuts have been the best I've ever really had as they last and he takes into account face shape, hair texture and more. He's a color guru too so I'm comfortable at this point in just saying -- do what you know works - within reason! Today I got yet another great deep brown/red color that I love and have already been boasting about on FB. I started with Michael a few years ago when he owned his own M Salon, and have since followed him to Mingle -- a few more miles to go, but worth it.
