Let me first tell what happened. My 7-year old daughter was looking at one of those leatherbound…read morecribbage cases - something not fragile or breakable at all. One of the employees (bald and Caucasian) walks over from the counter, snatches the booklet out of her hands, and aggressively snaps at her saying, "Keep your hands to yourself and don't touch anything! This is not a store for kids!" Note, this is a store with Star Wars posters on their doors and jigsaw puzzles. My daughter and I were a bit shaken, but I said a quick sorry, and then it hit me - this kind of behavior was completely rude and inexcusable and I felt like I should have defended her and told him to back off. But then I realized if it happened to us, chances are this was not an isolated or unique incident. The same will or has already happened to others who visited this store. If they continue this kind of behavior, they are going to hit someone's else's nerve who doesn't have the same restraint that I did. So if the same happens to you and your child if you do come here, know that what they're doing is wrong, and absolutely fight back if not just for yourself, but for the rest of us this has happened to. To gain some perspective as well though, hundreds of cruise ships with tourists visit this store regularly. They have probably had incidents where kids mishandled and broke some items, so they are very defensive about it. But here's the thing - if you're in this business, you should also be educated enough to know how to deal with this respectfully with customers. Put a sign up saying "Children not permitted. Thanks for your understanding". Or you say, "I'm so sorry, we've had some incidents before and prefer children not to handle the merchandise. Thanks". That's it. Anyways, I hope this is a lesson in customer service to this store because they do carry a lot of very nice items. But many times it's not what you're selling that determines how good your business is - it's how you treat your customers.

Unfortunately my two stones came off from my very unique ring. Worse yet I was traveling and did not notice it immediately. Stones lost ! I contacted Poker Creek Gold and the owner Lincon contacted me immediately via phone. Apologized and said on rare occasion these things can happen. It indicated that my 5 year warranty would cover all the work. I sent it directly to the repair shop and received it back in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately they used lower quality stones (even though they had the original pics of the ring ). I contacted Lincon again and agreed with me and contacted the repair shop. He gave me the option of money back or an additional repair or a new ring that was basically identical to my original. I went with the new ring. All this with no cost to me. Lincon always called be right away and explained my options. There was no avoidance of the issue, no attempts to get to take an inferior product. My issue was with the salesman that continued to follow me throughout the store, giving me prices on any item I took a shine to, where the prices continued to drop as I walked through the store. These behavioral issues aside , It is definitely worth coming in here to look at the merchandise due to the beautiful and unique nature of the artwork. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE -- PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING JEWELRY HERE BAIT AND SWITCH…read moreTHE OWNER LIED AND CHARGE ME $3000 OVER WHAT I AGREED TO PAY. THEY SOLD STERLING SILVER FOR WHITE GOLD THEY RUINED MY ALASKA CRUISE ON PRINCESS DISCOVERY FOR MY 24 ANNIVERSARY. PRINCESS SAID WE COULD TRUST THEM. I am writing this review because I believe other customers should know about my experience before making a significant jewelry purchase from Monarch Jewelers in Ketchikan, Alaska. On September 14, 2026, I visited Monarch Jewelers while shopping for white-gold tanzanite jewelry. I specifically told the owner that this was what I was looking for. The owner personally showed me jewelry that I understood to be consistent with what I had specifically requested, and I proceeded with the purchase based on those representations. After the transaction, I reviewed my receipt and the documentation more carefully and discovered that there was a discrepancy between what I understood I was purchasing and what was reflected in the transaction documentation. This was not a minor issue to me. The type of metal used in jewelry is a significant part of the value and description of a piece, particularly when a customer specifically requests white gold. I immediately contacted Monarch Jewelers and requested a refund and a resolution to the problem. Instead of taking responsibility for the situation and working with me to resolve it, I was told that they would not accept the jewelry back for a refund. That response was extremely disappointing. I did not walk into the store asking for just any piece of jewelry. I specifically communicated what I wanted, relied on the information provided to me by the store, and made my purchase based on that understanding. When I subsequently raised a serious concern about the transaction, I expected the store to investigate the matter and work toward a reasonable resolution. Instead, I have had to take additional steps to protect my interests and pursue the matter myself. My biggest concern is not simply that there was a disagreement about a piece of jewelry. It is how the situation was handled after I brought the issue to the store's attention. I expected transparency, accountability, and customer service. I did not receive the resolution I was seeking. For anyone considering purchasing jewelry from this store, especially an expensive purchase, my advice is to slow down and verify everything before paying. Ask exactly what metal the jewelry is made from, have the salesperson identify it clearly, examine the markings, and make sure the receipt accurately describes the item you are purchasing. Do not rely solely on a verbal representation. I am posting this review because I believe consumers deserve to know about my experience. I am still seeking a fair resolution and have documented the transaction, communications, receipt, and the jewelry involved.
