A couple of weeks ago, though, my wife brought in a beautiful Citizen dive watch of mine that needed a battery. Someone came out from the back room to tell my wife my watch was broken, it didn't need a battery. Lucky for me, wife didn't discard the watch on the way home. I put a battery in it myself and it works fine now. BUT THE PERSON AT SPARROWOOD apparently did not know HOW A WATCH WORKS. Dive watches have screw down stems, and maybe this woman didn't know how to use a dive watch's stem/crown. BUT WHAT SORT OF JEWELER doesn't know how a watch stem works? Never again will I go to this shop. Non-competent, or just lying rather than doing a little battery job? Doesn't matter. Find a jeweler who knows what she is doing.

I would love to make this review one sentence but this was not about a single interaction or…read morestatement but rather a series of unprofessional events over a nearly 5 1/2 week period of attempting to make my ring. I visited Mint Condition multiple times before purchasing my engagement ring and clearly requested an all yellow gold 4-prong setting using my original band. I was told this could be done, never informed there would be any issues providing this. When I picked up the ring the first time, it had been made in non plated WHITE GOLD with 6 prongs instead, completely changing the look of my Moval diamond. Rather than admitting the mistake, I was given excuses about why their choice was "better" and how I couldn't even tell it was white gold over yellow. There was also a scuff on my band from her buffing, and a knick at the bottom of my band where her tools had damaged the bottom of the ring. She told me I would need to sign a waiver to free her from having to back her workmanship if I switched to a 4 prong setting but I was never told there were safety concerns with a 4 prong setting and told my diamond was going to fall out and I would have to come in every month to have my diamond tightened. Also was told the gold would not match my band because they can't find heads that match. Which was something I was NEVER told initially when I processed this ring and moved forward with my order. After bringing it back to be corrected, they shaved down and permanently altered my original gold band WITHOUT PERMISSION, or without notifying me, making it far thinner than it originally was reducing it to an extremely thin width and minimizing my total weight in gold on my band, that I have owned for over 7 years. The diamond and head were sitting at a downward slant, and had to have it corrected while I waited. The owner, Breann, never once came out to address the issue or even hand deliver her work herself, she cowered behind the thin wall, and let Courtney, very emotionally, handle her business, in part telling me they already talked about it and said if I were to be unhappy with the ring they were going to just cut the head of the ring off and give me my shaven down band and money back and "be done." It was very unprofessional and they should be embarrassed. This was my engagement ring, and the entire experience was heartbreaking. Poor craftsmanship, unauthorized changes, and terrible customer service. I was courteous and gracious to this whole process that took well over a month to complete, and lack of communication the entire time, I had to chase them around for answers and updates on my ring. I would not trust this jeweler with custom work. Breann will lie and say that she showed me prongs and told me she was going to use a 6 prong. She never did anything of the sort whatsoever. I was surprised and shocked when I saw the ring in a different setting than was ever discussed. They attempt to shift the blame to me when in reality I paid for something that was done incorrectly and took a long time to fix with no consistent communication the entire time. It's shady work here, they lie, and they can't keep their lies together. The work is lazy and they make things up as they go for why they don't produce what they said they would.

That assurance was a major factor in my decision to buy. Within days of proposing, my then-fiancée noticed a visible inclusion in the diamond with the naked eye. I reported it to the store within about a week of picking up the ring. What followed was several months of a promised "replacement search" that never actually produced a suitable stone. When I eventually asked for a refund, the owner told me over the phone that it wasn't possible because the ring would be considered "estate jewelry." Instead, I was offered a 110% store credit toward a future purchase, meaning I'd need to spend more money with the same store to fix a problem they created in the first place. Even written assurances from their own staff didn't hold up when it mattered. If you're shopping for an engagement ring, get everything documented, and understand that documentation alone may not protect you here.
