Although I used no resources I was given Zero dollars back from this retreat center. So much for compassion, love and light. Additionally, her last email stating I was to receive no money back made a threat that I should be happy that they "will not ask [for me] to pay the remaining portion that was covered by the award." I was given a partial fellowship-I applied for the indigenous fellowship which helped to pay a bit of the amount and apparently I would be expected to pay that back too-for a retreat I could not attend. So much for helping the indigenous people of the land. The sheer beauty of the New Mexico high desert truley sings here. The land is perched on the edge of a canyon, where all of the colors of the south West contrast with the huge blue open skies. The vistas are vast, and you are opened to the elements of nature in a way that is rare in our modern world. Many of these views are the same ones that Georigia O'keefe gazed upon when she was painting. And when it comes to its namesake, the stars truley do dance in the night. If you are looking to book a meditation retreat, small yoga retreat, or even are looking for a weekend of solitude I would recomend coming to Star Dance. The accomodations are rustic and keep you connected with nature whether you are inside or outside, but I believe that is part of the appeal of being in a place like this.

The food is great and abundant. The accommodations allow all sorts of budgets to use this place. They have options for tent camping, dormitory style and some semi private possibilites so that most folks and most budgets can be accommodated. Following a disappointing stay, we did some research and found out about the history of sexual abuses by the former guru. says nothing on the website. After learning that, how odd to have a book in the room called "Extraordinary Sex". and then to have a sliding glass door to the porch, that didn't fully close or lock. Felt odd. the heating system they bragged about by phone, geothermal, is so old and had so much air in the pipes that it was extremely loud and those of us in two separate rooms could NOT sleep. they would not give details about the meals at the retreat center, although the website mentions them. there was a meal the night we were there. Several people, none wearing latex or nitrile gloves, all cutting and mixing raw vegetables, which would be served, uncooked. no wonder they hesitated to discuss meals. We did not partake. The person who booked us, and offered that we could join in for meditation, had no knowledge that the days we booked were the staff's and volunteers' days off of practice. So no zen practice at the zen center. The next night we stayed at an AirBNB which is attached to a high-end restaurant. The restaurant wasn't open but we learned that the abbess of the retreat center had eaten there during the week prior. Nice place, prixe fixe at $95 per plate. Maybe there's another story to that, but don't zen practitioners follow a life of simplicity? The soaking pools are FULL of algae. Slippery and nowhere to sit on a clean rock. People in our party all got swimmers itch, it is carried by a parasite commonly found in ducks. Guess what domesticated waterfowl are kept in a pen uphill of the soaking pools? Enjoy your stay!

We both left feeling better and I'm not determined to bring one of these to our hometown it is a destination worth experiencing.

I try to not quit working out when I go on vacations and I was lucky to find this hidden gem here. The gym is never crowded and tons of machines and free weights, cardio equipment etc. You can get a day pass or weekly pass. And you have 24 hour access. They have been really nice to me every time. One time they even gave me a 10 day pass for free because that was my first visit to the gym. This time bought a 10 day pass but unfortunately I lost the key to get in. On a Sunday morning when the gym is closed, I was desperate and didn't know how to get in. Calling their phone number went to voicemail. I messaged them on Yelp asking them if there was any way I could get in. I got a phone call within minutes and Brandon told me that I can go the gym and they will let me in.
