I have a pretty sensitive BS barometer. I've been to tai chi and chi gong classes and attended…read moremeditation classes and usually was turned off by teachers who I felt did not walk the talk and came off as being inauthentic and phony (okay, maybe my bs barometer is too sensitive....) I first saw Mingtong Gu at Spirit Rock meditation center in Woodacre. I was desperately seeking a way to manage a disorder I have that causes unexpected and unpredictable vertigo spells and was reaching the end of my rope. As I was sitting waiting for the workshop to begin, Mingtong appeared next to me and flashed me a bright, genuine smile. I found it hard to believe this was the "grand master", but as he took the stage and began to speak, I saw that in fact he was all he had been described to be and more. I was blown away, not so much by the practice, but by Mingtong's presence, his sense of humor, his joy, his patience, and an inner beauty that is infectious. His wife Lingling is equally gifted, and together they have brought a wonderfully powerful healing practice to the Bay Area and beyond. After my two day workshop at Spirit Rock, I signed up for a 12 day retreat in Santa Rosa. I had never been on a retreat before and have never been serious about any practice. I'm basically a slug and would rather watch Real Housewives of New Jersey than dedicate myself to a regular practice of anything. Yet, I was infected by the enthusiasm that Mingtong brings to his teachings. I have made a commitment to doing 3 hours of practice every day, but find myself doing more, as practice involves not only physical exercise, but also visualizations, sound healing, and listening to CDs of Mingtong and Lingling. I feel happier and more grounded than I have ever felt in my life. I have not had a vertigo attack in two weeks and am confident that through this practice I will find total health and wholeness. If you are dealing with a terminal or incurable illness, I highly recommend signing up for one of Mingtong's intensive retreats where you will find a practice and a community of support that will change your life. However, even if you feel you are healthy, I still recommend doing one of his retreats. You will find wisdom and healing and access to an unlimited source of energy and joy. I can only give Mingtong 5 stars because that is the maximum, but he actually deserves a Milky Way full of stars.

Other times, I don't want to stop, and I participate for over an hour, as it effects me in such a positive way. Unlike allopathic medicine which sometimes seems to focus on what's wrong, QiGong focuses on acceptance, so that one can naturally increase what is right. It incorporates sound work which releases trapped energy in organs, movement, and heart expansion. I appreciate the January Thank You Gift series for a new year, but I'm not sure I can still find all of them on Youtube. There was one in particular which was done on January 13th, in which Ming Tong does healing while one is resting. The farm has all kinds of amenities; hot tub, soaking tub, saunas, open barn with electricity and areas to lounge, hot showers, laundry and clean bathrooms. It has many cabin options but I chose the tipi. I took my two small dogs and they were welcomed with open arms and strategically placed poop bags. It rained a bunch but that added to the incredible sights, smells and feeling of being far far away from civilization but only 20 minutes north of Taos There is a great market between for food/drink needs. No restaurant on the farm but plenty of grills and places to lounge. We got to meet 4 alpaca, 3 sheep, 5 goats, 1 donkey, 3 turkey and many chickens! It is a owned and run by a wonderful couple who grow goji berries, as well as many other plants, flowers and veggies. A must see!

Checking in was super easy, the staff were really helpful with all of our questions. I have a bad sense of direction and every time I got lost there was someone there to walk me where I needed to go. My massage with Laya Watts was amazing, probably the best one I ever had. I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated. It was a wonderful experience. The food in the restaurant was very good but I wished there were smaller portions of some things. I got a salad and it was fantastic but I only ate about half of it and I really didn't want to go back into the pools on a full stomach. My only criticism was that the showers in the spa locker room were spotless in the morning but by mid day they really needed a cleaning. It's not the spa's fault that it was dirty but some people are just slobs. I would have been good if they had someone come in and clean at least once during the day.

Thank you all for making my birthday and our 20 anniversary so amazing! everything was very nice except the food and drinks not so much. first time I was there on Monday afternoon, I waited 25 min. at least before even being acknowledge or even said anything to me. the bartender girl looked like she was very overwhelmed! and i ordered a grilled artichoke which was great! and i didn't mind waiting but found out the cider i was charged 8.60 for a cider they don't carry. and the young man who came in after was complaining about the gal who just left and didn't set up anything for him. he was nice as but the next day i came in to order dinner so i got the 22 buck smash burger and when i got it back to my room. it wasn't smashed it was an anemic 2 patty, it doesn't say on the menu it had 2 patty's and it wasn't even good at all. so i came in and told the guy and all he did was apologize. i should have asked for the manager but i thought he would have offered me to credit me or replace it. but nope. then I asked him if I could have a cider and he said 7+ some change so i asked him how come the girl charged me 860 and the guys like she shouldn't because we no longer have that cider they are great at being consistent with inconsistency's like the food/prices. than my fiancée showed up the next evening then i took back to the wine bar and we ordered another artichoke and i think all employees at the restaurant/wine bar seemed overwhelmed. but after we waited for a little bit we got the artichoke and it was was raw and tough, so i sent that back and then my man ordered fajitas. He ordered the steak and shrimp, but we got the combo chicken steak and shrimp and there was absolutely no flavor at all. and the chicken/ steak were not cut properly, they looked hacked up. at the same time we were ordering a very tall guy walks in kind of red hair and I guess it was the owner son and the young guy that was taking his order kind of catered to him not us because we waited a while again, but it's all good. The tall young man was very polite though!! the guys are aware that Guy was very nice but come on because the owner Son comes in and ordered a bunch of stuff. so after that i asked for a second artichoke and it was even colder but what ever! not even cooked but how do you grill an artichoke and have it underdone?. so our third night we came in and order a pizza the meat lovers well meat lovers ha ha ha really seven pieces of bad pepperoni and maybe eight pieces of of horrible Italian sausage. And then they don't give you any or offer us any Parmesan cheese or red pepper so here's the good part I went and I spoke to Santiago who was a young guy willing to help me and he said I can get you a container full of Parmesan cheese and red pepper. I said thank you so much. and it was so refreshing to have someone provide me with outstanding customer service skills. so it doesn't take much to make a guest feel special. ! so i asked him can i speak to your manager? this guy walks out, not really even caring what I was saying, but I said Santiago's outstanding employee, you can in his eyes. He wants to make people happy. I told him he is the best employee you have so far. and he goes I'll put that in my report and i shared you need help with your staff and their guest service skills. he said yes i do and walks out while i was still speaking with him, he had no clue i was an on-boarding master trainer for huge companies in calif, anyway these people need big help here judt because if they want to continue to be a luxury resort then they should hire luxury people luxury as in people who love to show up for work and want to create an experience for everyone at Ojo Caliente restaurant and hopefully the new mgr gal will do her magic. but the guy manager did not seem to care or he was over it! Santiago. He's so young provided such a can-do attitude and had passion!. So I would give it a five star for Santiago, but the food in the inconsistency of pricing I was here and Sarah was an awesome incredible massage therapist so if you ever at Ojo Cali please check santiago has the natural gift for the service industry. anyway! please whoever looks at this review from Ojo caliente's restaurant. there was really no rude people just some people do not really care or not properly trained. that starts at the top. and maybe someone should come in and show them how to have fun again while providing 5star guest/customer service. anyway all in all i had a fantastic time here! massage was fantastic, rooms were beautiful bed was so cozy the bedding wow, you guys just need some retraining! or someone to come in and revamp your training and find their passion again!

So disappointed in Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center staff, Registration manager, Jan Estep…read more I had to cancel my meditation retreat due to my mother's emergency hospital stay (mom is 78 and had an unforeseen ER) and I was given no refund for the payment made for the shuttle-that I did not ride; comfort pack,-I never used; or partial balance- for a stay and food I did not use. Although I used no resources I was given Zero dollars back from this retreat center. So much for compassion, love and light. Additionally, her last email stating I was to receive no money back made a threat that I should be happy that they "will not ask [for me] to pay the remaining portion that was covered by the award." I was given a partial fellowship-I applied for the indigenous fellowship which helped to pay a bit of the amount and apparently I would be expected to pay that back too-for a retreat I could not attend. So much for helping the indigenous people of the land. I am from New Mexico and really disappointed in the way I was treated by the staff running the sacred indigenous land-maybe nothing has really changed. All my relations. Margie Torrez

We had the foot scrub/massage first. Overall it was good, but the chairs they used were awkward for Maggie to get her feet into the bath. The space was also a bit cramped, but the salt scrub and massage was good. The couples massage was 105 minutes and a good combination of relaxation and therapeutic. Reese and Deb used hot rocks as well as their skilled hands to work over all our muscle groups from head to toe, leaving us relaxed and refreshed. The nit I would pick is that they were originally planning to do our massages in separate rooms. Fortunately they were able to do us side by side!
