Hey Yelpers, don't miss out this experience... and make it part of your regular routine. You will know once you go!

As everyone knows, I am extreme... hot or cold, in or out, all or nothing (I think you get my point). Mindfuel Method's Contrast Therapy is perfect for syncing your mind and body. The owners, sauna, cold plunges, and ambiance provide a professional and refreshing experience. We had a total blast! Go alone or with a group... but Go. Now.

May 2025 I've been a runner for over 25 years and I'm still trying to find the right mix of exercise, recovery, cross-training and rest days. Occasionally, I've been known to over train (running ultra-marathons will do that to you) and to under train. What I've been consistent with though is recovery. Whether it is yin yoga, a massage, cold plunge, sauna, steam room or jacuzzi, I'm really good at recovery (just ask my wife). I was in Pittsburgh to run the 2025 DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon for the second time. It was a full circle weekend for me, the last time that I ran it was in 2001 (3:49 time). I had hopes of doing it under 4hrs, but pavement is very different than trail running. My legs and body did not like the pounding so I ended up with a respectful 4:25 for the 26.2 mile excursion over bridges, up hills and along many familiar thoroughfares. I stayed downtown at the Marriott Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel which was perfect, close to the start and finish of the Sunday morning race. From what I understand, this years marathon was a record with 45,000 competitors. Wow! Before arriving in the 'Burgh, I did a precursory search for cold plunge places and the Mindfuel Method came up many times. I liked the idea of how Hanna and Matt began with a hosted outdoor mobile sauna and cold plunge event strategy and have parlayed it into a great brick and mortar business in the Strip District. Everyone was friendly, the repeat clientele are chill and welcoming, and the basement vibe is perfect. (Reminds me of a smaller version of AIRE Ancient Baths New York and the Great Jones Spa.) Hanna and Matt hired a local guy to build a 22 person sauna! It was a spacious environment and next door in a separate room there were 4 cold plunges (salt and filtered) set to 46, 48, 50 and 52 degrees. There is also a tea station / lounge area and 2 restrooms with private toilets and showers. Upstairs on the ground level is the check in desk, shoe removal area and large yoga/ pilates area. I picked up the package for 3 sessions and would definitely be a regular member here. There is an additional yoga studio (separately owned) on the second floor and I did manage a yoga class here (The Om Lounge Yoga & Wellness) and a cold plunge /sauna session to follow. Almost forgot, the locker room (changing room) is uni-sex and has coded lockers for valuables and 2 private changing stalls. I still look back fondly on the recovery times here before and after the marathon. Will definitely return when I'm in Pittsburgh.

The whole set up was nice in the individual rooms with your shower and amenities. The music and lighting and ambience of the actual float was as expected! The lounge area with oxygen bar was a little underwhelming, and there are only two massage chairs. These two features were definitely not the highlight of the experience. The staff team, however, was really great. They were so helpful, friendly, and welcoming. While I don't think this is something that I need to repeat, I'm glad I gave it a "go"!

Not all float spas are created equal…read more I learned such a fact when I cheated on this float spa with another closer to where I live, and realized the cleanliness, attention of the staff, and float experience here at True REST South Hills is a notch above the rest. First of all, the staff greets me by name here even as a total stranger, and they are genuinely interested in ensuring your highest comfort and experience. The float rooms and tanks have always been impeccably clean. Apparently, this is one of the few spas that still has the type of pod doors that open from the bottom (as opposed to others that are split in the middle and open from left to right). I learned that the type of pod doors at the South Hills location are better for holding in heat. I have never been too cold like at other True REST locations. Thank for being awesome, South Hills...I promise to never be unfaithful to you again!
