We went on a Sunday and found street parking pretty easily, but then realized the theater validates parking for up to 3 hours. Such a nice perk -- wish I knew before circling around lol. We bought our tickets online ahead of time, and when we got there I ordered the garlic cheesy bread and a drink at the counter. Total was around $15. The seats were really comfy and spacious, which made the whole experience feel worth it. The food came out pretty fast. The garlic cheesy bread was probably like a 5/10 for me... not terrible, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Overall though, really nice theater and I'd definitely come back for another movie night.

My husband and I attended a matinee showing of "Michael" this past weekend. Tickets were purchased…read moreonline prior to the 4:15pm show in Theater #1. We arrived and parked in the garage located next to the theater. When we checked in at the box office, we were told to request parking ticket validation upstairs. They provide 3-hour parking validation. I was under the belief that we could order refreshments from our seats, but the usher at the theater door advised that we should order at the counter and food (with the exception of beverages, popcorn and candies) would be brought out to our seats. This was disappointing because the line was quite long. We stood in the queue and once we reached the counter, we were assisted by what I believe was the food service manager. He spoke with a sense of ownership over the issue that was their beer refrigeration line. All of their beer is on tap, and none was available because of this issue. The gentleman was short with us. He talks fast and asked what we'd like and before we could even get the words out of our mouths, he demanded that we produce our seat tickets. I was pulling them out of my pocket when he said something to the effect of "we can't deliver it to your seats if we don't know where you're seated". This is true, but once I gave him the tickets, he held onto them until the end of our transaction. If he didn't need them right away, then why cut us off like that? My husband tipped on the receipt, but I felt that the service was subpar. I hope the tips are given to the food runners. When we found our seats, there was a huge spill in front of one of them. The employees have to come into the theater and remove dishes, cups, etc. after each show, so that spill should have been addressed. I found an employee who was running food orders and asked him for a towel. He graciously assisted us in cleaning up the spill. We both ordered The Fast Times pizzas. They were small, personal sized pies. They were cheesy, with a generous amount of pepperoni, but the crust wasn't fully cooked. I barely ate half of mine before I began feeling sick. I had to excuse myself to restroom shortly thereafter when I became ill. My husband's stomach is stronger than mine, or perhaps his was fully cooked. The seats were comfortable and I don't think you can pick a "bad one", but the food and the service could use improvement.

Phoenix Theater is in the heart of downtown and this being my first visit I was amazed by the contemporary building which wasn't too huge but just the right size where we enjoyed a 2 hours long show around some really impactful issues in the world. The space seems to be non profit driven and built going by the donations wall and it's kept really clean and spotless. The staff is very friendly and they maneuvered effortlessly through the show. I saw people from all parts of the world, and professions attend the show and had invigorating conversations in the end. Definitely check out the shows and plan some especially during the colder season.

A not-for-profit theatre started 38 years ago by Bryan Fonseca, one of Indy's true theatre legends who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic, Phoenix Theatre has always been at the cutting edge of Indy's contemporary theatre scene. Phoenix Theatre actually kicked off the year I graduated from high school (If you say anything about my age, I will hunt you down). It's original home was at 749 N. Park Avenue in a 1907 church where the not so legendary, but certainly infamous, Jim Jones once preached. In May 2018, the Phoenix Theatre moved into its new digs at 705 N. Illinois in what is accurately known as the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre. The Phoenix Theatre champions what they call IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) for all. While they worked hard to make their old space accessible, the truth is a 1907 building would never be completely accessible and the new space is a major improvement. Phoenix is a member of the National New Play Network and League of Indianapolis Theatres. It produces around 10-12 plays/shows per year and now also offers its spaces for rental. Spaces include the Christel DeHaan Grand Lobby, Odyssey Room, Multi-Purpose Room, Basile Stage, Russell Theatre, and the outdoor Park at the Phoenix. While I wouldn't quite say rental fees are "affordable," they are quite reasonable. Phoenix really stressed accessibility with its new location. The building itself is described as completely ADA accessible. The third Sunday of each show offers an ASL interpreter and blind/low-vision services. The website even includes information on public transportation and IndyGo (Indy's accessible bus service that is fairly pathetic but better than nothing). While they do address accessibility on their website, I would encourage them to be more open about seating options for wheelchair users and those with mobility impairments (It's not bad, but being up front helps people plan better). Phoenix does have its own parking lot, somewhat of a rarity downtown, and there's also metered parking around it. Phoenix does lean toward contemporary and often progressive stage productions. There are gender-neutral bathrooms and it's not uncommon to see stage productions across a variety of topics. This ain't your Grandma's Sunday School stage performances - this is thought-provoking, challenging, and culturally aware live theatre that truly lives into the Phoenix's IDEA. I now drive by Phoenix every day on my way home from work. I smile each and every time. It's a marvelous theatre and a true icon that has survived on the Indy scene for nearly four decades. While others have come and gone, the Phoenix survives and thrives even through having to adapt during the pandemic. There are certain Indianapolis theatres that I consider "must see." The Phoenix is undeniably one of them.

It was such an amazing experience and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra played a phenomenal performance. Jack Everly is so engaging and cheerful! Ended up with box seats with just me and my family and enjoyed it. We did have to sit up in our seats a little to see, but that may just be my height. However , I loved how I was able to see every part of the stage and that I didn't have to look over anyone's head to try to see. The line for drinks/snacks went by quickly and the staff were very friendly. I will definitely be looking into more shows at this location.

See some indie show that will probably never be seen again because some guy wrote it in his car because he needed the money for gas. You won't regret it! The Main Stage offers auditorium style seating. Stage 2 is more of an intimate setting that is primarily made up of four top tables and higher bar top seating. In both cases, if you want to feel as if your on stage, the front row will but you extremely close to the action. There is a small concession stand that offers drinks, including beer and wine, and snacks for cash prior to entering. Tips to keep in mind: **Seating for both stages is first come first serve, so make sure to arrive early if you wish to have all of your party sitting together. ***The main restroom is down a flight of stairs. They do have a single restroom on the top level near the main stage; however, it may or may not have a "Cast" sign **If you don't have time to visit their box office, they do use Vendini online ticketing, which will charge you a small fee. ***Parking - It's Mass Ave, so parking can be hard to come by. Factor extra time in when planning to arrive in time for shows ***If you tend to go to a lot of their shows, they usually offer a flex pass at the start of the season that is a good option.

At one point I leaned over and told my husband " this looks like the"play" out elementary kids would come up with and we would sit through years ago. Very sad because it was our first play to check out with the Festival and we thought next year we might do a pass for multiple shows. Not sure about that now if they just let anyone sing and ramble through an incoherant mess that no one was clapping or engaged with :(

They've got a small but mighty space just off Mass Ave near the north end. I easily find parking on the north end more towards Bottleworks. In addition to an intimate theater setting, they've got a nice outdoor gathering space that was the perfect venue for our outdoor Yelp event. Oh, and they put on Fringe Fest every year with hundreds of shows within a two week time frame. Support your local arts and performing arts!

They also have parking available at a lot behind the venue if you don't want to try on street parking. I didn't get any entree but got a mocktail and some carrot cake.
