Another totally deserving 5 star review for Alvin. Like some of the other reviewers, we met him at a school fundraiser, which speaks volumes of his commitment to our community. We were fortunate to be able to have him perform at our Holiday Open House party for about 60 of our friends. He spent over an hour doing "strolling" magic for small groups, totally engaging with each person. For the last 1/2 hour he performed for the entire group. My galpal and I attended "Before Your Eyes" an Evening of Astonishment - March 15th 2014 at the Unscripted Theatre in San Francisco. Awesome date. We won a private event with Alvin Lui at a charity auction to benefit our local school district. Alvin came and performed for our group of ~50 family and friends. It is no exaggeration to say that Alvin was spectacular. Not only was it fun to see the kids' amazement at his illusions, but it was equally fun to see the faces of the amazed and confused adults. Alvin was great to work with. While the original plan was for two hours of strolling illusion, Alvin happily adjusted to include a 30 minute performance at the beginning of his time with us when asked. The majority of Alvin's illusions involved audience participation, which made it really special for the guests. At the end of the show and for the rest of the party, all anyone could talk about was "how in the heck did he do that trick?" The icing on the cake for me personally was the time and attention Alvin gave to the kids. We had three or four kids who set up their own personal magic show for later in the evening, and Alvin stayed to watch and applaud their acts. He even gave each personal advice on how they might further improve the delivery of their magic, which was really awesome for the kids. Alvin is a fantastic performer and a great guy. This show completely blew my mind. I've heard great things about Alvin's performance but you don't really know how fantastic it is until you go yourself. In short: it was unlike any magic show I've been to. There are only 30 seats available per show, so the entire performance is incredibly personal. I went to Alvin's new show Magic Unplugged. It did not disappoint. It was located in the back of a brewery with around 20 seats. It's a very intimate location and he involved every member of the audience in at least one of his tricks. The show comes with a beer but it would have been worth it even without the libation. For our wedding we called on Alvin he gave us a sample of what he did in our home. My husband is Chinese and I am Mexican. We had Alvin go table to table performing his magic. It was wonderful for both families, loved it, even if you speak Chinese only or Spanish only you don't need an interpreter for this.
