Dr. Sandoval is the best doctor of any specialization I have ever seen. I am immensely grateful that her office is within walking distance of where I live. Every single person at this office has been kind, caring, and attentive every time I have engaged with them, including Brenda, who is mentioned in a negative review here but was, for me, an essential part of my chronic depression recovery. Mind Care Services takes Medicaid/Medi-Cal healthcare, so the reviews you read here may be provided by people who are or were at their wits' end and may have been looking for more than a health care provider can give. I got my Spravato treatments at this office, and they let me walk myself home, which resulted in some terrifying side effects, but that was my choice to bend the rules. They did try to advise me against it, but I didn't want to understand what the consequences could be, so I insisted upon self-monitoring instead of securing a social support person to ground me. Like with some people's experience of ketamine, I am certain that the benefits of my recovery from depression significantly outweigh the drawbacks of the rare side effects I had with Spravato, even after needing crisis hospitalization twice. I can feel happy for the first time since I was a child, and I can manage my life in a way that I'm not embarrassed to bring friends into. read more

Don't come here! All they care about is money! I've been coming here for almost 5 years and I recently got laid off from my job. I had an appointment reminder for tomorrow and I told them I'm unemployed now and that they couldn't help me. Basically told me that I can pay out of pocket $200 for a refill of medication and a 60 second call asking how are my medications treating me OR PAY A one time $50 fee to have my medications refilled. This should be illegal! Once I'm settled and back on my feet I'm ditching this place for good. The medications I take are life threatening and altering and not taking them for a few days can cause some serious health problems for me mentally and physically and emotionally! STAY FAR AWAY! Choose a different place maybe I'll have to try one of these subscription based services with a free trial since my doctor of years isn't able to help me. I was already approved for medicine but Brenda has continuously lied after I have provided everything for my services, she lied and said she sent in both authorization requests together... after speaking to my insurance, they said she lied and she just sent it in that same day I called her asking. In my experience, the way in which they speak (I cannot call it communicating or conversing) *at* patients has been Misogynistic (If you are a woman, stay away from MICHAEL SOROUDI) , Inappropriate, Condescending, Aggressive and Anxiety Inducing. I have been interrupted, shut down, talked over, and "scolded" by practitioners (JANET SMITH AND MICHAEL SOROUDI). Read though these reviews. I am not alone. Shame on these people. Medications are not prescribed with any sort of ease. Paperwork is not filled out properly by the office or practitioners. The office is non responsive when it comes to calls from the pharmacy or calls from their patients trying to make appointments. Patients are required to take on the role of hypervigilant middleman between the pharmacy, front desk and provider. It is egregious behavior for a mental health facility. No one answers the phone. Calls are not returned for days. Emails are not responded to. The front desk, when they answer, is courteous, but that is as far as it goes. I am sure the admin staff is overworked. I am sure they do not have enough resources and I am sure they are understaffed. This does not change the fact that in five months of coming here, I had not had a ONE normal experience with a practitioner or with getting my prescription filled. I am tired. This is not normal. Rude. Condescending. Unprofessional. Predatory. Providers are notified, or are at the very least AWARE, when a patients health insurance is inactive prior to an appointment. They called me several minutes after my appointment (which was a 5 minute check in call) to notify me that I owe them $200 since my insurance was not currently active. I renewed it 2 days prior so it has not yet reflected as active to providers. I have Medi-Cal which means they get more money out of me sooner if I pay out of pocket as opposed to getting paid through my insurance. What a great business model. The woman who called me was super rude and not helpful at all. Immediately told me that this is entirely on me and not their problem. No sympathy. Just offered me a payment plan. I have seen 4 different psychiatrists here over the last 2 years. I was assigned to Belen initially and worked with her for almost a year before she left the company. I give her 5+ stars personally! She's the best psychiatrist I've ever worked with--she listened and actually considered what I was saying. I am sad she is no longer there. After that, I saw 2 psychiatrists, 1 whose name I forgot and the other named Michael. They were okay and friendly, but didn't really listen to what I was saying and were quick to assign meds without considering my innate wisdom about my OWN body. Most recently, I worked with Dr. Anker. She provided zero bedside manner and was cold. I was told that I would have 45 minutes during my 1st meeting with her, but we only met for 15 minutes. I complained how the meds made me feel and she didn't change them. I was trying to get to know her and her approach before she assigned meds not knowing she only had me scheduled for 15 minutes and then she was just like "gotta go. If you want another appt, talk to the office". All of the other doctors I worked with scheduled appointments with me directly. Overall, I am disappointed with this office. The hours are different on all platforms so it's not clear when they are open or closed. They sent me on a goose chase to verify to them that I had medi-cal active when I told them many times I did. The billing department didn't understand that anthem blue cross is active UNDER LA Care. They both have to be active.. I talked to Rosie in the office and there were a few times she was supposed to call me back to figure out insurance a few months ago, but she didn't. I do not typically check Yelp prior to making medical appointments, however, I was verbally warned about this practice. Specifically, I was informed clients had paid money and did not receive services. I was not given any information about actual treatment, so I chose to move forward with a consult. When you are unwell you tend to be desperate for help, and because patients seeking treatment here most likely present with high acuity needs, I've decided I should review my experience in regards to the consult and office staff ... I never even received recommended treatment because of the poor customer service. The front office gentleman, Gio, was professional, responsive and processed intake paperwork prior to my consult. I would give him 5 stars. The psychiatrist consult was okay ... the assessment wasn't very thorough in my opinion, and the treatment explanations were dumbed down. I asked questions about research, screening measurements and outcomes but I was provided very basic answers; the psychiatrist told me she couldn't, "actually recall how the medication worked" and "oh yeah, we use screening tools". I was also told to be prepared to wait for "months" before insurance would authorize treatment. When I expressed my surprise about the waiting period since the patient clientele is literally struggling with life-threatening despair the psychiatrist said, "it used to take 6-months". My initial gut feeling was that I would be on a patient conveyor belt. The worst part, however, was the lack of empathy and poor professionalism demonstrated by the back office employee, Brenda. Six weeks after my consult, I was contacted by the specialty pharmacy that a request was submitted for the practice to receive my medication shipment. This prompted me to call my insurance for the approval so I could make an appointment for treatment. Though my insurance, and my credit card, were both billed immediately after the consult, the treatment authorization request was NEVER submitted. I had to ask that she completed the simple, basic healthcare transaction that should have been completed 6 weeks prior. I did tell Brenda that delaying insurance authorization is below the quality standard of care, and it leads me to believe that they may be holding off until appointments become available -basically stringing along desperate patients. I was told that was not the case, and I could go somewhere else if I wanted. Of course I can, but who says that to a patient? Things can sometimes fall through the cracks, and typically the correct response is an apology and then attempts to correct mistakes for a patient to receive prompt care. When I had asked about availability, she never responded. When I finally did receive the insurance approval, I emailed her and called the office, and left a message. No response whatsoever. It is shameful for a practice to do that to a patient. Gio did ask me to call him back if Brenda never got back to me. I'm not going to beg for help at this point; it has been far too long and the lack of professionalism is apparent, and I ultimately do not trust them. Time has been wasted at the detriment of my health. I had a consult with another practice and the provider was extremely kind and thorough, utilized an appropriate, validated screening tool, explained the research and mechanism of action, and even discussed genetic testing that I had in the past and how that could impact treatment. Prior to my consult I asked the office how long it usually takes for insurance treatment approval. I was told at most, 2 weeks, and they've never heard that it can take months. I know a previous authorization was previously approved with Mind Care, but I was approved in less than 7 days and on the books for my treatment within in the same week with the new practice. read more

Dr. Anker is extremely unprofessional. I can't believe someone so hostile, and cold can be working in the mental health profession. Her poor bedside manner has affected my emotional disposition; it does heighten my anxiety, and it certainly has ensured difficulty in forming a positive bond with a professional who's in a field that's supposed to alleviate mental illness. I had two very demoralizing appointments with her. With the second one ending in her refusing to treat me and hung up the phone. I was in complete shock. While my interactions with the office staff were positive and helpful, Dr. Smith's bedside manner was terrible. She was very short toned and brusk with her questions-even down right rude. This is extremely unprofessional and not the impression that a service provider should give especially when dealing with patients who are depressed and in need of care. When I pointed out that her delivery was less than courteous, she gave an excuse that she had "been in the hospital since Tuesday" and was on oxygen. I honestly thought a lot of the same as some other reviewers but it really turned out it was mostly my automatic learned responses and thoughts getting in my way and prior treatment by psychiatrists. Although I haven't always loved the office staff, ( actually I really never have except for a man years ago I forget his name and Gabby) I do love Dr. Sandoval and my therapist. It took time, Like everything else for me to get there and believe they believe in helping and whatever their clients best interests are. Yes I agree it's frustrating that it seems like a revolving door for psychs but I've found a lot of places are like this for some reason, as long as my therapist doesn't leave I'm okay. I love Elise. It took me YEARS to really open up to her but I'm FINALLY at the point I give her a little more and more (it's that I don't trust ANYONE mentality I have) I don't think it's a "lack of compassion" but we have mental illness and disorders we don't need to be treated like victims because we're not. Victim mentality gets you no where in life. If you want someone to OooOo and ahhahhh with you and woe is me, this might not be the right place, but if you want real help, support and stability of the same therapist and Dr I'd definitely give it a try. read more

I've been a patient at this practice for a year and a half and it's a turn and burn mental healthcare practice. Calling it a mental healthcare practice is even hard for me. The women at the front desk are insanely rude and unprofessional. They never call back, call pharmacies, or do what they say they're going to do. I would have to call multiple times to get someone on the phone to help me with medication refills that are necessary for me to live in a very literal sense. When I do actually get them on the phone and converse about my needs they say they'll follow through and call me back, not once has this happened. I always have to call them back and when I do it's as if the previous conversation never happened. I've not met one person who works here including psychiatric nurse practitioner, Dominique Griffin, and their in house "psychotherapist" Elyse (who saw me once and seemed completely disinterested, asked me if I went to church and never suggested a follow up appointment). Dominique diagnosed me with bipolar disorder within 5 minutes of meeting me. She prescribed me drugs without even knowing my full mental health history and at each follow up appointment forgot what drugs I was taking and would ask questions we'd already discussed. She's inflexible and hard to work with. She does not believe in collaborative care and thinks what she says, medication wise, is the only way. She doesn't give patients access to her email address and for someone with a serious mental illness this is extremely hard and can be life threatening. I find it important to note that she also used the word retarded in reference to something she through was stupid in a follow up appointment. She also told me that since I wasn't homeless, just bipolar, that I shouldn't be so down because other people have it worse than me. If I could go back in time and never have gone to this practice I would. I don't wish this experience on anyone. Stay away if you have a serious mental illness. The profession staff (I.e the doctors) are second to none. I have received the best care from the mental health staff on site. However the mental stress you gain from having to work with their front desk is not worth the services you receive. I have had medications delayed due to their lack of follow up. I have had appointments pushed and rescheduled because of their inattentive was to detail. On multiple occasions I have had conversations with their front desk staff regarding my services, appointments, medications and schedule, only for the same person to have completely forgotten about me hours later. Just today I was told that I would have to wait months to see my doctor, and when asked for some understanding and consideration as I work through options I was met with a rude and disrespectful comment and disregard for my well being. I also left 4 messages over the past week to give my previous doc's information so they can request my medical records and did not receive a call back. I have been seeing Dr. Sandoval and James for a while now, and all's I can say is that they are both GREAT! Along with the whole office staff and Devin! Dr. Sandoval is with out a doubt one of the best doctors I have gone to seen for what I am dealing with. She listens to you and comes up with a game plan. It not like most places where you walk in to the doctors office and walk out a minute later with a script for meds, I don't like those places or doctors, Its like did they even listen to me or know what my issues are or what I need ?!?!?! Dr. Sandoval is the complete opposite, she listens, gives you input, and comes up with a treatment plan that will work for you, and for me it has worked! I have been seeing James every week for a while and all's I can say is that he is awesome. I have come a long way since I started seeing him. He goes above and beyond to help me then any other normal therapist would have. He stays attentive, is alert and pays attention to detail when you talk to him, its really good because he finds little things that you can work on in those details that makes all the difference when you are dealing a major issue. This is my first time ever seeing a psychiatrist and they are awful. First off, they are completely unstable. I have been there 4 times and i had a new psychiatrist EVERY SINGLE TIME. Which means i haven't been getting consistent monitoring and i had to go over everything every single time like it was my first visit, which essentially means retriggering myself over and over. My first psychiatrist was cool and he got replaced by this man that made me SO uncomfortable i swear he was on something. It was super weird i don't even know how t explain it. The lady i had was a bit blunt and rude and gave me anxiety. ALSO, not until my fourth visit after I've been on the medication for months now did they tell me I can't have grapefruit juice as it interacts very negatively to my meds. I've been drinking grapefruit juice this whole time wtf! They made me get some lab tests done in August. They didn't tell me the results for months even after i asked multiple times and they were confused at was i was even asking cuz they are so disorganized. Then when i called today for a prescription refill, they told me my results and i have extremely low vitamin D and need to see my doctor. I GOT THOSE TESTS DONE IN AUGUST AND THEY ARE JUST NOW GIVING ME THOSE RESULTS? It's March. And now, they charge $35 per refill because people don't show up to appointments or something they said. I get free meds through my healthcare for low income but i have to pay $35 for someone to sign a piece of paper?! That makes absolutely no sense. And they tried to only give me 7 days worth. 7 pills for $35! Until i protested and they gave me 2 weeks and told me to find a new doctor. I'm going out of town. I have 2 weeks to go on vacation and find a new psychiatrist and get a new prescription? So now basically I'll just be off my meds cold turkey. These people don't care about their patients. They ask the same routine questions in an interrogating way every time i go in after waiting for forever and then just sign a piece of paper and forget about you. They are telling me to go to urgent care for my meds. Urgent care doesn't give out anxiety medications. This place is awful. $35 per refill. I can't imagine how much that would add up for people that pay for their medications on top of a $35 SIGNING A PIECE OF PAPER fee. Also, your customer service sucks. It is very sad people with mental disorders have to deal with the poor treatment of the front desk receptionists and nurse practitioner Dominique. I had been coming here for a year now, the first person I saw had left a month later so they rescheduled me with Dominique. When I first saw her I asked if I could get a 3 month supply of my meds since they had been working out great. She said she could only give me 1 month supply because I was considered a new patient despite my appointment with mind care services a month prior. They told me this was because I was seeing a new provider, which didnt make sense considering I already had established history there. They made me come back again in 1 month. I picked this place due to them being open later, so I wouldn't have to take time off work yet everytime I tried scheduling an appointment the front office staff told me Dominique's latest appointment is 3pm, so I would have to take a couple hours off work once a month just to get my refills? Yes. Finally after the 4th visit with mind care services Dominique gave me a 3 month supply, which was incredibly hard to get filled because of the office staff. It took them over 2 weeks to get them to send it in, after me constantly calling their emotionless rude staff, then telling me they have to talk to Dominique and will get back to me (they never did). They acted like they had no idea how to fax my prescription over to my pharmacy, and each time I called to check on it they told me the same thing they need a special form (was BS my pharmacy kept saying "just tell them to fax the RX over"). This continued after EVERY appointment I had with them, same rude office staff. Every time they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. On multiple occasions the office would call me the day before or the day of to reschedule my appointment because Dominique had "an emergency" or didn't have appointments during the time frame. Even when this happened they were reluctant to give me refills on my meds despite them always delaying my appointments. I would have to make a special trip down to the office to pick up my 1 month refill when they should've given me the 3 month since that was my appointment was for and literally every appointment I told them everything has been great since the meds. I felt like they made my condition ten times worse each time I had to call them or come in for my appointment. The office staff has told me Dominique doesn't take appointments after 3pm even though she always told me she does when I saw her and gave me a weird confused look like I was lying. I asked her why the office staff is telling me this then and she crunched her brows and said "I'm not sure, I'll talk to them". Nothing ever changed. So I was constantly taking time off work just to get refills on really basic meds. On my very last visit with them I was shocked at how the office staff was completely cold and rude to a young man who was clearly mentally disabled and said kindly to them "I'm in town visiting my brother and he said I am in good hands with you guys" the receptionist rudely responded "come in" and waved her arm ubruptly to get him out of the waiting room. No smile, no thank you, not an ounce if human decency. I was in in disbelief these women are working in a place supposed to help people with mental disabilities. On this last visit I again explained the issues I was having with Dominique's office staff and she didn't respond, AT ALL. She asked the same questions she always asked like "how are things doing" but when I expressed how stressful it is dealing with the office staff and how I dont know what to do she just stared right at her computer not acknowledging anything I was saying. Yes, this really happened. I asked her again "I'm not sure what else I can do but the office staff seems emotionless and unwilling to do their job even when I'm nice and patient, do you know why?" She ignored me again and after an awkward silence she continued to ask me generic questions on how things are. I was extremely uncomfortable at this point. I felt crazy like am I not talking loud enough or is she just angry and ignoring me? I then asked her if she thinks I will continue to have issues with them because I'm not sure I can handle them anymore as I now dread having to call the office for anything. She squinted at me and with a demeaning/annoyed undertone said "I don't know". I was shocked into silence, probably like she wanted. She then said in a short tone "ok we're done they can schedule your next appointment" and scooted her rolling chair to the door to throw it open....I was horrified at her treatment. Never coming back. Even getting my records from them afterwards I could see they didn't document over two thirds of what I told them at each appointment. This office should be shut down. read more

The staff is extremely rude. They are absolutely inconsiderate. I told them that I have frequent morning sickness and that I can't have an appointment real early but they didn't care or try to accommodate. I also told them that I'm going to study abroad for 6 months and they said that they can reschedule me in they morning that I have to fly out, they didn't care. Considering that it's a mental health facility, the staff should be a little more considerate and less rude. They also said "oh well you can't see her as the schedule for today is very busy" yet there was just one person in the waiting room. They also said "well if you need to be seen just go to an urgent care" which I think is something very rude to say considering they are working with people that have mental illness. The paperwork also made no sense as they want you to add up your own score for the mental health screening. It's very hard for people with mental health issues (like me, I know I have social anxiety) to even leave their house and then they treat you like this? read more

Do not seek treatment here! You will inevitably be disregarded. After leaving the country suddenly on work and returning, this facility would not see me. Their service was decent previous to my move from the area, but upon my return they couldn't even return a phone call regarding my 'candidacy' to resume treatment- or at least to meet with someone to discuss my options. They have left me on hold many times in the past, and after waiting a week to hear back from them to see if their practitioners would meet with me, I had to call in to be told that "...an email from [their] practitioners said that [I] would need to find some other place to seek treatment..." In the age of mental health awareness, it can be extremely difficult to find a single professional to help, but this choice to turn me away is a clear indication of this offices motivation. Namely, in that it lies completely monetarily. They wouldn't see me because I had to take a break in treatment to answer a work contract out of the country. This is an inform tuna team reality for so many money-hungry medical professionals. I would never recommend this office or any of its practitioners to anyone. Turn away and seek help from someone who is actually invested in your wellbeing and road to recovery. read more

I really like Dr. Sandoval, she is really funny and kind. But the poor rating comes from the front desk and how she is only there 2 days at odd times and it really doesn't work with my schedule. The front desk ladies are rude and have no customer service skills, let alone skills to be working in a psychiatric office. And then it's a hassle to get refills if I have to cancel or reschedule an appointment because my work won't let me off because it's very odd hours. Unfortunately I believe I'll have to start looking for a new office. I had high hopes for here. read more

Incredibly prompt and unflaggingly professional in the provider appointment process, something there doesn't always exist in most medical offices IMHO, left alone one that accepts Med-Cal patients. I've been going to Mind Care for almost a couple years, I believe, & have always been provided great service. The office is clean, they're quick to answer the phones & provide assistance, as well as offer appointment reminder phone calls. My recent experience was more than great as I had issues with my pharmacy (who I was going to for a long time), & Mariela provided exceptional service & helped out a lot. She'd been assisting me with this issue for almost 2 days, & was constantly on the phone with the pharmacy to follow up & update them with information. At the end, she was so professional & ended up resolving the issue - she would follow up with me throughout the day, which I was grateful for. I'm very satisfied with the service I received. read more
