A friend and I stopped in for happy hour on a Friday for snacks and drinks. There were a lot of good deals, and we decided on the potato skins. They were really tasty! They also had karaoke, which was a lot of fun! We stayed longer than we expected to. We will be back soon! read more

I was biking and I seen this bar one day this summer. I thought the signage was interesting. I guess the place stuck out in my mind. I popped in last week and got a couple pints. Looks like its a pizza place but I honestly didn't order any food. Service was good, a bit slow at times. I think maybe they were understaffed. Very friendly people there though. Might pop by again if I'm in the southgate area. read more

Came to Mimi's on a Friday evening, we were a bit concerned when pulling up as the place looked quite full. Walked in and a gal came over and seated us. I had been seated for less then 20 seconds and the same gal asks us to move to a different table as they had a group of 4 come in. Seriously ?? Ok, so that wasn't impressive, she seemed apologetic, but it was still a bad move. Anyways, now we are at our new table. The place is well appointed for what used to be a service station. Our server came by with menus and asked for the drink order. There were a few larger tables that looked like they were in the final stages, and our server took quite some time to get back to us. I had even made eye contact and was basically told to wait. Our server came back to us and we got our orders in. Considering how busy the place was, our food came out fairly quickly. I went with the Lasagna, and my wife went with the fish and chips. Both were quite good and piping hot. Our server had recommended the lasagna, but I have to admit the fish and chips was much better. Overall, the service was less than stellar (ie: moving us and being told to wait). The food was definitely good. I'm on the fence as to a recommendation for Mimi's. I love the fact that it's a neighborhood place and has good food and decent selections. It's not my neighborhood and making a trip over Petrolia is a bit of a hike for me. Great new place in South Edmonton! Still smelled faintly like fresh paint today so I'm guessing they opened very recently. The interior is nice and comfortable with a mix of high group tables, 2/4 person tables and a bar seating area. The patio was still under construction. They have cool looking pizza oven! The menu is your usual bar menu with a twist as there are some unique items in it. Pizza definitely seems to be the specialty with about a dozen variations offered, atleast half of them being vegetarian. My friend and I ordered two sets of wings (it is the Tuesday special with 45 c/wing) and the bacon mushroom pizza. They did get the wings order wrong at first but rectified it pretty quickly. We had ordered the salt and pepper and hot wings and although not great, they were tasty (3/5). The pizza was great! It seems like they make the entire pizza from scratch and it shows as the crust is nice and light, it isn't greasy or doughy at all. The cheese and toppings were of a high quality too and were delicious (4/5). My only complaint is that they did not have either chilli oil or oregano on the table to add to the pizza. They had a handful of local beers on tap and a variety of imports available in bottles as well. I did not get a chance to try their cocktails or desserts this time. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. It was a pleasant experience overall. read more

I liked it. Really cool decor. Not what I was expecting for an old converted gas / service station. Our waitress was prompt. Drinks came fast. We had the burger special. I ordered an extra patty added to mine (was only $3 up charge? Hell of a deal) The fries were amazing... I've never had anything like them before. Maybe a batter or almost some sort of coating? No idea. Definitely will go back. Gonna try their pizza night next! Very cool. There are 4 washrooms which are gender neutral or whatever the right saying is. They are really nice also. Almost like someone's house. It wasn't hot inside and the AC was actually on. Wasn't sweating like a whore in church like most places in Edmonton. Thanks! read more

I did previously leave a one star review because I ordered from SkipTheDishes because I'm very ill and I don't drive and the order was completely messed up. I called several times because it was so noisy in the background and the man who answered the phone kept hanging up on me, my dad had to go and get it sorted out. I gave it a chance again today I got some for my mom and dad and for myself minor modified for allergy reasons and my parents weren't. It's fine like it might've been entered in the system wrong that is 100% OK I was a waitress for years however just trying to take the green onions off when I'm allergic no, you can't possibly bring me a new batch of potato skins in like one minute and then the poor bartender waitress had to go back again to the kitchen, give me sour cream, which I am also allergic to. The owner of whom I love because she is so kind was talking to who I believe might be like a shift manager, but our manager I don't know, but he was the person that was answering the phone and hanging up on me. I gave the girl 20% and as I was walking out the owner was like I'm so sorry for the mixup and I'm like yeah yeah no problem and then he started saying oh that's the girl that the one star nobody cares. If you complain about me, don't do it in earshot, I understand they don't usually have enough staff on but like that is not how you treat a customer regardless you don't hang up on them 10 times and then complain to the owner when I come back 20% tip right in front of my face. read more

I grew up in this neighborhood so I was intrigued with what they done with the old service station. I was not disappointed. They have invested deeply to build a great place with great finishes and comfort. The menu is extensive and the food we tried was very good. The service was not as attentive as we like. This is the real deal. Authentically local, neighbourhood pub, with an open, clean architectural design and craft brew selection to satisfy the most discriminating hipster. The changing selection of beer on tap always leans heavily toward praiseworthy local options. A minor drawback for those who prefer a smaller taste of beer at a sitting: they only serve by the pint. Mimi's has a noteworthy menu that makes this place suitable for a pint with friends, a special pizza night with the kids, or a dinner date. Everything is fresh home-made as far as I can tell, and with a little something extra. The fries come sprinkled with Romano, with a dish of roast garlic aioli that will make you swear off ketchup. The lamb kofta burger has garlic mint yogurt. Your pizza come fresh out of real brick oven from Italy. I am a big fan of the wasabi beans. The owner seems to stop by every day - a sweet, smiling, tireless woman who named the place after her mother. Flag her down; she is ready to chat with her customers, and seems so proud of this place and devoted to the community. A much needed addition to this neighbourhood. I stop in whenever I am in town. If only Mimi's had arrived a bit earlier, maybe I never would have left Aspen Gardens. read more

food and service was mediocre. giving a horrible review as we ordered wings as appetizer and pizza for entree. waitress brought all entrees but no wings first. we requested they cancel the wings as expected them to arrive before the entrees. the owner then came to our table to advise us the wings were made & we needed to take them & it was our fault as we needed to inform the server that we wanted the wings first. is that not the responsibility of the server to ask the customer if the appetizer is wanted first?! absolutely appalling behaviour. we have lived in the neighbourhood for 23 years & have supported Mimi's since opening & even through COVID as we'd like to support local businesses. we will never go back. so disappointed in the owner's behaviour. read more

This was our second visit to Mimi's. our first visit was very positive. This one was not. This can all be attributed to being severely under staffed. The appetizers were fine but the poor server just couldn't keep up. There were only three staff for the entire restaurant. I saw a number of people having to get up and get their own menus. I hope that the owners can fix this issue because i want to see them succeed. read more

The ambience in the restaurant was lovely and the food was excellent. The owner was not prepared for our large group to arrive at noon even though a reservation was made well in advance. There were two cooks on staff and only ONE waitress which was an impossible situation for her. She was friendly and knowledgeable, but her boss did absolutely nothing to help her! Oh, she did bring two lunch orders to our tables of 17, but didn't lift a finger otherwise. What a terrible way to treat your staff! I had to ask when the food would come and could we have our bills. We waited 45 minutes for our food and some ladies had to leave after an hour and a half from when we arrived, so getting our bills was crucial. Why didn't the owner help out? The owner never even came over to see how we were doing!!! We came to try the restaurant out, but 17 ladies won't be returning ever again. read more

We believe in supporting local so we're happy to go to Mimi's. The food had some good qualities. The fried green beans and arancini we very good. The not so good, My husband had fish and chips which he enjoyed. There was a small dish of which appeared to be mushy peas on the plate, but were not green, rather grey and very disgusting-to look at. The first two items I wanted to order they did not have. Clearly these are inexperienced owners that have allot to work out. What really bothered me is the lack of respect in my opinion for the wait staff. The restaurant was packed, with only one server who was run off her feet. We understand two staff were sent home and another to the kitchen. Being short staffed is common from what we heard. It did not appear that the owner was doing a great deal to assist. If it was not for the young waitress' professional attitude we would have walked. We saw other patrons do just that. Will think long and hard before returning which makes us sad when we live close by. Hope you can get this turned around. read more

The owner of this pub is mean and cruel to her staff. She yells at them and demeans them all the time. Please tip your waitress well there is a reason that there is such a huge staff turn over. read more

My parents, boyfriend and I arrived on a Sunday evening at about 5:45pm, on the day that Mimi's had their 'Grand Opening' event earlier from 1-3pm. I also believe that it was the first or one of the first days that their patio was open (however, the restaurant has been open for about a month at this point). We opted to sit inside, in the corner near a window so we could talk to each other away from the main bustle of the restaurant- it was self seating. The table had a small menu with daily + happy hour specials on it, which we opted to order a few appetizers from. We then waited ten minutes before a server brought us drink and dinner menus, for which she apologized. We ordered the appetizers and decided we needed a minute to pick out drinks. We waited approximately 20 minutes for her to return, at which point she asked us if we were ready to order our meals (we had no drinks or water on the table). I let her know that we actually hadn't ordered our drinks yet, but that we could order our mains in addition to our drinks, all of which she wrote down. Our appetizers came after that. The fries and aioli were crispy and delicious, but the margarita bruschetta flatbread was lukewarm and wasn't an authentic bruschetta- thin tomato sauce and an excessive amount of mozzarella cheese. At this point we had been waiting 10 additional minutes for our drinks to arrive, (we had been in the restaurant for 45 minutes). I approached the bar to inquire as to whether there had been an issue or misunderstanding and a woman asked me what I needed. I informed her that we were still waiting for our drinks after having been there for 45 minutes. She said "ok I'll get it sorted". Then another, entirely different server came over to take our drink order for a second time. They finally arrived about 10 minutes after that. We then were wonder where our food was after having ordered it almost an hour ago, and my father waved our server down to ask when it might be coming. She said "I'll go check on it for you", and came back with an unapologetic "It'll be out super soon,"(it was clear she either had forgotten to put our order in/had some sort of miscommunication that she wasn't willing to be honest about). We waited 5 more minutes and then put some cash on the table and left, without eating dinner. None of us will be back. Additionally, during this whole fiasco of an experience, there was an employee of the restaurant directly outside the front window we were sitting beside for most of the hour+ that we were there, smoking and talking on his cell phone. Maybe there isn't a lot of room for staff breaks inside or out back, but that is not a great look for the restaurant or the employee himself. I am extremely disappointed as I had been looking forward to trying out Mimi's. The atmosphere and unique quirks of a neighbourhood pub are hard to beat- but only if done right. I don't know where in the chain of command the missing link is for Mimi's but it is very obvious there is a big gap between what they are attempting to deliver and what they actually are. I think the space is really nice, the menu seems well thought out, and it has potential. However, in the restaurant industry, part of the reason people return is because of how they are treated: whether they feel their business is valued, time respected and how mistakes are corrected when they happen, because they are inevitable. A word of advice to Mimi's: Invest in what you are delivering. Hire people who care about every aspect of the business, from the kitchen/menu, the bar program, the service, and maintaining the relationships you build. Train your staff until they are proficient at all the skills they need to perform each shift, and don't do them the disservice of putting them on the floor alone before they are ready. Be clear and firm on the vision you have for the restaurant, and be honest when something doesn't work effectively. And, carefully consider how all of those aspects come together to create an experience for customers, and ultimately, the recipe for success. read more

Outstanding!!! What a gem...went on a Thursday night and it was packed. 6 of us went and everyone loved their meals. Had Calamari, wings and flatbread to start. Fantastic. How can onion rings or a burger be so bland? Had higher expectations but the actual food was disappointing. Didnt live up to descriptions on the menu. Too bad.... read more

Today was the second time I went to Mimi's. The first day I went was only a day or two after it opened. I went there for drinks with friends, and I tried to order a drink but they didn't have the alcohol for it, which I was okay with since it was only recently opened. So today I gave it another try for supper. It took 10 minutes for them to even greet us and give us menus. Then it took another 10 minutes to even get the drinks. All of which I was alright with. Then when I got the bill and paid, they had typed in the wrong amount on the machine (I hadn't looked at the bill yet) and it turned out they had charged me too little. But they had also overcharged me for something I didn't order, I realized when I actually looked at the bill. So then a manager came over and tried to refund me. After 5 minutes of messing around and nothing working, he tried to charge me even more. So finally he realized that they owed ME money actually, and VERY rudely asked me if I wanted my "3 dollar and 40 cents back" when it was actually 8 dollars and 50 cents back. I was so done with it by then that I told them to keep it and left. I didn't even get told a simple "sorry" by the manager which is what prompted me to write this. I would not waste my time or money going to this establishment. It was not worth the wait and I left after being treated like I wasn't worth their time. read more
