Visiting my family for the holidays we were doing some shopping around this area. They had always…read morewanted to try this place, so we stopped in for some takeout. The place had a rather strange smell, almost musty like a basement. It didn't instill great confidence in me for my upcoming food experience. I ordered a pulled pork burrito with the habanero and honey BBQ sauces on the side. The burrito came out and it was actually quite delicious. Beans, onions and peppers, and perfectly cooked pork stuffed the inside. The sauces were okay. The honey was way too sweet for me and the habanero had barely a hint of spice to it. The sauce were also very thick, not my style BBQ sauce. My mom got a pulled pork kids sandwich with fries. The fries were "eh". But again the pork was really good. The kids version of the sandwich was HUGE. I would go back here for the meat for sure, but probably not the sauce.

This joint, although a bit of a drive from Cleveland-proper, has some of the best BBQ in the Cleveland area. It was a welcome surprise. My first sample was a pulled pork sandwich, which was on special for a great price. It was a very good sized portion and it came with fries. I had it with their spicy sauce. The pork was delicious. Unfortunately it came with the sauce on it, covering up a bit of the taste of the meat. I was able snatch a few pieces out from between the bun that weren't sauced was happy to taste that good flavor. If I ordered the sandwich again I would ask for the sauce on the side, and probably wouldn't go for the spicy. I also tried the ribs. I ordered the with the sauce on the side and was greeted with an EXCELLENT smell and full smoke flavor. The ribs meat under the smoke skin was that heavily smoked pink. They were excellent and something worth returning for, for sure. I'm glad I ordered them un-sauced with it on the side so I was able to get some of that smokey meat flavor that they have. The sides I had were their Cajun fries and Mac and Cheese. The Cajun fries were excellent, and rival those at Five Guys. In my opinion they were somehow better. The Mac was top notch as well. Not everything was perfect. My ribs were a bit over-done. Don't get me wrong, I know a good heavily smoked rib is going to be chewy and that's what I like, but I had a few portions that were charcoaled. It's okay though because I got that flavor that I look for in good BBQ and know it was a small mistake, not the norm. My other issue was the sauce. It wasn't as good as the meats were. Going back I'd make sure to have everything with sauce on the side. Somehow the sauces really didn't complement the excellent smokey flavors in the meats. I tried the regular, honey, and spicy and all 3 were off. I would ask for my ribs to be hit with a sprinkling of dry-rub before being served to me next time just to get more of that already built in flavor and might skip the sauce. I'll be going back for sure. This experience might have been 3.5 stars for me but I can tell this is a 4 star joint. I saw they have smoked wings on their menu, so those will be next on my menu. I hope this place only gets more popular, because they deserve it.

We used this business to provide catering for our Christmas dinner at work, and the chicken looked like roadkill, and the sides had no flavor at all. I was excited to try the new local restaurant for my birthday dinner. I ordered one of my favorites, chicken and waffles. I am not exaggerating when I say the single waffle was not edible. It was the size of a hockey puck, dry, and rock hard. The chicken wings were crispy, but not flavorful. The collard greens were bland. The sweet potato was good and not too sweet. The meal was such a disappointment.

Having had the perch po' boy, all I can say is that it was definitely perch not catfish. Yes, the owner is the cook and he's always been friendly. The food is excpetionally good. The perch was cooked to perfection that it was moist but not falling-apart-flaky. It's possible that threw off the other reviewer, who seems to think that catfish and perch cook to different colors - both cook to white, but perch will be flaky while catfish is more chewy and rarely flakey. The place is situated in a odd place, sandwiched in a Marc's plaza with an Aldi's, a Dollar Tree and a Big Lots. Don't expect Park Avenue real estate. One time I ate there, my food was served in a take-out box. The other time is was served on a plate. I think that is something you have to take as it comes. They serve soul food, done right, but for whatever reason they don't market as such - the decor is more like a nightclub and I can't say I've ever gone for the music or the DJ, but it would not surprise me if an order might get mixed up if the place was packed... they are basically a mom-and-pop restaurant with twice the floor area of a fast food restaurant that would be retaining 5x the number of employees. Typically the place is not busy for lunch, and I HIGHLY recomend it if you are anywhere near... definitely worth the 10 minute drive between the McDonald's on Breckville and the McDonald's in this plaze to patronize this small independent where the food is made to order, the prices are reasonable, and - honestly I can see the owner bringing out frozen fish to show someone that it didn't come pre-cooked or semi-prepped like you would get at most chains - because I get the sense that they sincerely and put their heart into the food.

Ardick is located in Lorain near to the Black River in a older commercial neighborhood. Ardick has a smaller stand alone building painted light blue, with some covered picnic tables; the vibe is fun and nautical. Inside is a nice fish market and a hot food area at the back. The selection of fresh and smoked fish is nice, but not huge, but I came to grab a quick lunch. The menu board lists a number of dinners, sandwiches and other fried food. I ordered the jumbo perch sandwich which seemed reasonable at $10. The 2 large perch fillets were already breaded and were fried fresh then went on a bun with tarter sauce. Overall the prep was quick and well done. Relaxing out on the patio I did enjoy the sandwich; the perch fillets were perfectly cooked with a crisp crust and moist white fish inside. The highlight of the sandwich was the spicing of the breading which was a nice contrast to the mild fish complimented by the tarter sauce and fresh bun. There was nothing fancy here, but this was a very good perch sandwich. I noted that the dinners seemed a bit expensive, but they include 1/2 pound of the seafood with a choice of 2 sides and a roll and butter; there were some interesting sides including potato pancakes or cabbage and noodles. Overall Ardick was a nice spot for lunch, but I would probably not make a special trip, on the other hand if I am in the Lorain area will probably stop in again.
