On December 23, 2020 I purchased for $222.90 a drill kit (drill, battery charger, and two 18 v. batteries) at Ace Hardware in Van Nuys, CA. The instructions stated that the batteries needed to be charged. I plugged in the charger, engaged the battery in the charger slot and lights came on indicating that the battery was properly seated in the charger. The instructions stated that a green light should come on to indicate charging. Instead red and green alternating lights came on. The instructions stated that alternating red/green lights indicated that the battery was dead. I tried to charge the second battery - same result. So much for Quality Control.
I accessed the Customer Service site online, entered my name etc and stated the problem. One week later and having no reply I contacted the CS a second time. A week later having received no reply I called the CS telephone (1-800-729-3878) and was on hold for twenty minutes without a response, then elected to receive a call back, Never happened. Several days later I called again (ignored the callback invitation) and waited for over an hour before giving up.
I travel out-of-the-country extensively and left in late January and I have not returned to Los Angeles as of this date.
My speculation is that: the QC manager is the CEO's son who drives a Ferrari 458 and is usually in Las Vegas or Miami Beach. As for the Customer Service Dept. . . . there is none.
Yes, I am aware of the difficulties due to Covid 19. Many small businesses failed. This one should have voluntarily closed. read more
