We didn't use the hotel so I can't comment on that but we visited the restaurant for a family meal…read moreand I was extremely impressed considering this place is a JD Weatherspoon. I hadn't visited a Weatherspoon for quite a long time, but my previous experiences of eating in them had always been pretty poor, amazingly cheap but rubbish quality. The decor was as I would expect, adequate but soulless. I was however immediately impressed by the new menu design and options. The prices were all still incredibly cheap so although the menu appealed to me I didn't hold any high hopes! I went for a gourmet burger, that came with fries, onion rings and a pint for a mere £6.99. The "free drink" choices were extensive so I was impressed with that alone. I also ordered a children's spag bol for my 1.5 year old son. The food arrived and I was immediately surprised by how good it looked. The giant burger stack was presented really well, the bun was fresh and lightly toasted, the burger was thick and juicy. I couldn't quite believe my eyes or taste buds! Now for £6.99 I have no doubt in my mind these weren't the finest ingredients (quite possibly even horse), but I didn't actually care as it tasted great. My son also wolfed down almost all of his meal and the bit I tried was not the bland tasteless sauce I was expecting, but flavorsome and meaty. If you haven't tried a Weatherspoon in a while and want a cheap meal out then I can't recommend enough for value for money!

From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly thoughtful, welcoming, and kind. During our two-night stay, we ate at the restaurant connected to the hotel both evenings. The food was amazing, although we did wish there had been a few more traditional Scottish dishes on the menu to make the dining experience feel even more connected to the area and the history of Carnoustie. That said, everything we had was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed both meals. One of our favorite parts of the hotel was getting to explore all of the memorabilia throughout the property, showcasing the Open Championships held at Carnoustie over the years. It really added to the atmosphere and gave the hotel such a wonderful sense of history. Overall, we had an excellent stay and would absolutely recommend Carnoustie Golf Hotel & Spa. The beautiful setting, wonderful staff, great food, and incredible golfing history made our visit truly unforgettable.

Then we had dessert. Me and two in my company got their "hot chocolate with whipped cream". A cute idea, putting ice cream and whipped cream in a cup and then on the side you've got a little cup to poor meted chocolate over it. I would have preferred a smaller serving. The other one in the company had "etton mess" like meringue with strawberry coulis. - The waitresses was nice and friendly. - The restaurant itself could get a lift up. Pretty boring setup not cozy. - A little overpriced I would say
