"Life's not hard when you've got a library card!". It's easy to see why the Santa Clara County Library system has been consistently ranked one of the top public libraries in the nation. Milpitas library has a huge selection of up to date books, magazines, and movies. Plus, there are a ton of public computers to use. Btw, your library card gets you access to a whole list of museums and zoos for FREE (check their website to reserve the tix)! The only downside to this location is that even with all that seating, it gets packed. Definitely need to stake out a spot early if you want to grab a desk to study. Also, free yoga class Friday mornings at 11:30! read more

one of the nicest libraries in the area. I am a fan. They have a huge selection of books and super friendly servcie. I misplaced my library card and was able to call in beforehand to let them know it was missing. The nice librarian put a hold on my card and told me to come back any time to replace. No issues or scolding from this location. The parking garage is huge but find a spot especially on the weekend is a true struggle. It seems like everyone hangs out at the library during the weekend. I enjoy that they have a friends of the library corner to help support the library with book sales. Not as cheap as the bookstore in Tracy by any means, but pretty good. The books seem a lot newer and more taken care of. No issues with the wifi and the set up is pretty easy to figure out. If you want to watch new-ish dvd's for free, come here. Their array of DVDs are huge! Good job Milpitas! read more

This is my all time fav library! I can't believe I just discovered it recently! I've been torturing myself going to loud crowded cafes, scavenging for precious plug space and buying mediocre drinks just to study when beautiful, clean spacious Milpitas Library was right there all along! Top 3 fav things about this library: 1. Homey, warm, clean study spot! I always find a table to myself since this place is so spacious. I get cold easily so it being on the warm side in this library is definitely a plus for me 2. So many PLUGS! Charging heaven 3. High tech system for returning, searching for items, requesting items and checking out items! They have conveniently located computers to use for catalogue searches everywhere. So many more favorites like reminder emails for when things are due, they have an EXTENSIVE audiobook library and DVD selection and their website is pretty comprehensive. However, their app is just okay, I prefer their website. They also have clean bathrooms and vending machines! I wish they had a hot drink vending machine and that would just seal the deal. Only things I don't like (but are out of the library's control): 1. Sleeping snoring smelly hobos (but not as many hobos as other libraries I've been to!) 2. Rude ppl who take out books and materials and just leave them on desks, under desks, on chairs, etc and don't put them back 3. Screaming, running, crying, out of control and unsupervised children I love this library and wish I discovered it sooner! read more

I like the Milpitas library more than San Jose library, but I haven't been back here for a while because they charge a yearly fee of $80 for non-residents. HOWEVER! They are going to revoke that fee starting July 1, 2015. It's on their website if you want to confirm. Anyway, I came here to do some studying, but the tables were all occupied by students. I just sat on the sofas and it was fine. Lots of computers for you to use, but everyone has a laptop nowadays. When I went, they had a book fair too. Great prices for used books! There's a parking structure, but I had to go up to the 3rd floor. I guess a lot of people really like this library. I don't doubt that. read more

This is a public library, and a very good one. Obviously, it is not a research library like the dozens they had on the Cal Berkeley campus, or even a big city library like SF Main, or San Jose Main. However, for a small, smelly town like Milpitas, it serves it purpose very well. haha. Nice new books collections, and extensive dvds and music cds for borrowing. Easy parking lot too. read more

The newest addition to the Santa Clara County Libraries system is the newly-relocated Milpitas branch on Milpitas' historic Main Street. Although it's still a bit of a mess to get to, it's definitely an upgrade from the old library off of Calaveras. This updated Milpitas library has everything you'd expect - a computer lab, easy-to-find sections, helpful staff and easy-to-spot Information centers, and of course, a number of resources. However, unlike its Santa Clara city counterpart, this library is a little sparse in its resources - or is it too large for the large amount of resources it has? Its digital sections are sparse, except for its vast CD collection, which it carried over from its older building. Its presentation of resources is also a little confusing - unlike Santa Clara's branch, with all of its resources literally ahead of you once you walk in, you have to make a choice at Milpitas' branch - either the extreme right side of the building, or the extreme left. The architecture and furnishings inside the library almost take over the library in the sense that you would want to come here for comfort, rather than learning, reading, etc. And while the details in the lettering of sections and the carpet choice upstairs and the wood-floored City of Milpitas history room is nice, it makes you wonder if the city and the county spent a little too much attention (and money) on looks, rather than resources. There are some rooms that seem like they take up space just to take it up, such as conference rooms that are hardly ever used and one gigantic one that houses - 2 chairs. 2 whole chairs. Maybe these parts of the library are still undergoing changes as the library ages (it was only opened in January); it would be a better use of space, in my opinion, were it filled with more resources. Although Milpitas' library is beautiful to look at, there are older institutions that have more to offer rather than a nicely decorated interior. read more

Luce was so amazing. She went out of her way to help my dad get his passport. She deserves a raise!

The Milpitas Library has an excellent and large selection of fiction & non-fiction books. It also has one the largest selection of DVDs and CDs of any library in the south bay. The only library with more material is the M.L. King Library in downtown San Jose. And believe me, I've been to every library in the south bay (Fremont, San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, etc.). Yes, I'm a book worm. There's also plenty of desktops & printers to use, and the wifi signal is generally good. It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but there's plenty of seating and checkout machines. One of the other advantages of the Milpitas Library is that they still offer materials primarily in English. Some of the libraries in San Jose, due to large ethnic population, have had to provide more and more funds to non-English books. While I agree that this is only fair, it also has the less-than-positive consequence of limiting what I can check out. While they do have a 3 story parking garage, I recommend you drive with caution since it's a little cramped and dark in there. But do check out the top floor - there's an excellent view of the surrounding area from up there. The only negative comment I have are the people that work the checkout desk. I have on several occasions experienced less than courteous manners. Not to the point that I was ready to make a scene, but they were acting as if they were doing me a favor by helping me (i.e. performing their jobs). On the other hand, I've always been satisfied by the people working at the reference desks. Overall, I recommend this library. read more

The new library is so much better than the previous building. Twice as much books and other materials (CDs, DVDs, Magazines, Newspapers, etc.). It is much larger (2x) than the original location. And plenty of computers, which was the main problem with the old one. The only downside is that it does not have a Internet cafe. Therefore, it is the reason for me giving the library four out of five stars. read more

This library is not as big as the MLK library in downtown SJ, but it's very peaceful and not many crowds. They have a garage parking lot which plenty of parking is available. When you're checking out books, it's pretty simple and the librarians are always there to help. I really like their WIFI, which make it easy to connect with great internet speed. If you want to use a public computer, I think they charge you if you use it for over an hour. I see many people come here to study which provide a great atmosphere. read more

The staff here are not friendly at all they think they can run this place. You work in a library as a volunteer or paid. You don't have to be rude. Especially the lady in the children's area. God for bid you step in that area. They will come at you harassing and wondering what you are doing there start lurking over you. Geez, if you want to be nostalgia and thumb around books you read as a kids you can't do it. It's a library. It's a nice place but i am here waiting outside and the library is taking a while to open. It's should've open 30 min ago.

The study area isn't as large as Mountain View's, but it has amazing natural lighting. If you want to find a quiet place to study that offers a great "home" feeling, I highly recommend this library. The wifi here is solid and runs extremely well. Do you know how I know the wifi is great? There's a dude that comes every weekend to play counter strike and he does not lag what-so-ever. read more

I love libraries!! This library is pretty nice as it was new/remodeled just a few years ago. Love sitting in the room on the 2nd floor that overlooks the street. I have yet to stay here during sunset to watch the beautiful sky from those windows. My only complaints are the homeless people, the smelly bathrooms on the 1st floor, and the ants I have sometimes seen at some desks/tables. OH, and the terrible drivers in the parking lot. Make slow turns and look very carefully all directions as you go through each floor. A lot of the people here can't drive (as in the rest of the bay in certain plazas). Sometimes there's kids skateboarding or practicing dance, so don't run them over. I'm just a nerd and strolling and being at libraries make me happy. Maybe because it's the only time I can get work done. It's nice to come with someone so you don't have to pack up your laptop every time you go to the bathroom. And it's nice to have a buddy to watch your stuff if you guys rotate to go downstairs to eat. I don't know why I am up at 4am writing a review on the library, but I really do love this library! I've also attended a few of their workshops on financial budgeting. read more

...writer's block, pt.3... ___?? YEARS AGO___ Back in my high school days and a little bit of college (sometime after Grease, through Saved By The Bell, a little bit during 90210), I used to frequent this library quite a bit. There weren't any reputable libraries near school (Independence, Class of *cough*!), I wasn't aware of Barnes & Noble yet, and Starbucks hadn't found its way south of Seattle. (Yes, kiddies, there was a time when Starbucks wasn't at every major metropolitan intersection... around the same time mastodons wandered the earth...) And I used to be able to get sh*t done here. And I mean, get SH*T done. Chemistry cram session? Bang! Art theory term? Boom! Progressive Women's Lit final? Bip! And its here that I first met ________. Cute and petite. She wore a pink sweater that fit too snugly, far far too flattering a fit for the fragile minds of immature boys. AND she could play Street Fighter with the best of the best... oh, she was a nerdy fat kids dream girl. ___FAST FORWARD: TODAY___ Ugh. This library sucks. What was once a proper institute for studiousness and diligence has become haven to a collective of crass individuals whose sense of civility and propriety has abandoned them. Spoken noise and rustling of belongings pierce the peace that should be occupied by ONLY the voices in my OWN head. Sadly, the resources are in a pitiable state of decrepitude and wear. Someone's car gets broken into in the parking lot? Savages. And really now? With all the jibber-jabber echoing about, you're seriously going to tell me that I'm TYPING too loud? F-you. D@mn this writer's block. __________________________________________ Years later, nerdy fat kid manned-up and asked pink sweater girl out... nothing ever came of it. But she was the first girl he'd ever asked out. read more

Parents: the library is NOT a babysitter so do NOT drop off your kids here while you go to the mall and shop leaving them screaming and running around with no supervision. Staff: Please regulate on the screaming children. This is a library not an amusement park. I didn't have high expectations when I came to the library to study. All i hoped for was a "quiet" section or a separate room for studying. Yes, there are designated quiet sections and rooms but there were massive amount of kids running, screaming, yelling, shouting etc throughout the whole library. I loved the library when I was younger. I use to go here and pick out books to read etc and I know it can be a vital part for childhood. I do not think that a library should be a playground though. Having fun at the library is one thing but screaming and shouting takes it to a whole different level. I was at the library on 4 different occasions for over a few hours each time. Every single time I was here there were children screaming at the top of their lungs, throwing books, playing tag, skateboarding outside etc. It is ridiculous how irresponsible parents are sometimes. I have seen mothers dragging their screaming child by the arm across the library threatening them that they will go home etc. Even though this place is new, clean and beautiful I just can't stand coming to this "babysitter". PLEASE regulate, milpitas library! This is a public library and is open to all but that shouldn't mean the rules can be broken. read more

it was once a 3 star "indifferent" review... but i've grown to HATE this place w/ a passion... call me a "burning piece of HATE" - but whatever sanctity a library used to honor when it came to the word "QUIET" - it exists NO MORE... A TASTE OF CHAOS I HAVE TO ENDURE WHEN I AM THERE: 1.) i've been kicked out of this library for excessive noise and horseplay as a teenager back in the days of my youth... so why is it that there are hyphy cell phone ring tones playing obnoxiously for kids to hear and screaming bratty children EVERYWHERE? "what happened, library? you used to be COOL..." [and quiet.] 2.) there are disabled and mentally challenged people here - cool. i totally dig the fact they cater to those that need that extra bit of something to do... however, i frown a "fierce" frown at whatever IDIOT GENIUS it was that decided to hand those that don't know any better a tambourine in the library... HONESTLY, WHO DOES THAT?! and who happens to think its a smart idea to bring a tambourine into a library...? 3.) everyone here thinks they are entitled to make as much noise as they please just because they are not in the "Quiet" study room. wtf is that? a library is a library. quiet should be observed EVERYWHERE. if not in the study room, noise level should not be louder than a whisper or a soft spoken word. when i ask you to please keep it down, do not tell me to move when i have been sitting here longer than you have. if you need to have a group study session and you are all loud and opinionated people, excited over your project, please - go to your local coffee house that offers free wifi - we live in the internet age... they can cater to your kind, stay open later than the library if you need more time to work, and you can easily find sustenance when you need brainfuel... 4.) people here have NO MANNERS. they will come over while you work and try to talk to you... even though you isolate yourself. they will pick up your tools WITHOUT your permission or even ASKING, and ask you frivolous questions that waste your time while you are trying to concentrate on other things. "how much does this do-hickey cost?" - "MORE THAN YOUR LIFE, BITCH. NOW PUT THAT DOWN AND LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE." - and these are the REGULARS at the library - ADULTS - with NOTHING better to do with their time, but sit at the library trying to lecture about certain topics as though they really know anything about it. its damned annoying. why do they do this? because no one in their own home has the patience to listen to their raves and rants filled with delusions - so they drop the crazies off at the library for some peace and quiet. 5.) what is up with the creepy regulars? you have that lady with the red plaid blanket and matching red plaid covered shopping cart cackling at people like a witch doctor, asking for a dollar to whomever walks by... isn't that soliciting? should you not mandate something? and why is it that 30% of the adults there have some kind of "conspiracy" theory to share with one another? what's funnier? the individuals with conspiracy theories seem to annoy one another with their own vivid daydreams of assassination plots V.S. religion and how we are all sinners headed for damnation. 6.) i don't like the bathrooms being seperated by a door and a hallway from the entire library... its not so safe to be so isolated and so close to the entry way with a drop off zone for children and women alike. someone could EASILY be abducted without anyone raising an eyebrow to notice anything has happened... i really hope this is remedied when the new location is constructed and open to the public... and i really hope they put some of that milpitas money to hiring security guards that can put some of these crazy people in check... they have enough damned police on the streets already... instead of occupying your desk jobs and malls, why not have someone availible to that area? the quiet room is only equipped for those people that need a workspace to read... but what about the students that need to draw? i need a workspace to fit a 24x36 piece of vellum, and my house has insufficient space... so i drive to three libraries in santa clara only to find this location with a decent table big enough... what's sad is that the milpitas location seems to be the only one with this excessive noise level problem... THIS IS WHAT A BROKE STUDENT MUST ENDURE... ...next semester, i am saving up for a proper workspace to work in the privacy of my own home... a crying shame when that money could be better put to use by purchasing books and art supplies for class - instead of a $200 table... if you absolutely MUST work at this library - BRING YOUR IPOD W/ EARBUDS... its the best way to say, "FUCK OFF" without uttering a word, and you won't have to endure listening to half the mumbo jumbo i endure when i don't bring my ipod. read more

Took my niece and nephew here last week and even though they live 2-3 miles away on the border of milpitas/fremont and because this is the MILPITAS library, apparently we werent in their service area. Ah Milpitas Public Library, I used to study here however, after all the noises, kids, rude patrons and staffs who doesn't care, I absolutely hated this place when it comes to studying. Let me tell you a little story. On a Saturday morning, a beautiful, sunny day, I decided to waste this absolutely perfect day to study. I thought of driving down to Milpitas library to study rather than the one here in Beryessa, because well I wanted a little more spacious and Milpitas is a beautiful building! As I entered the library, I can hear children yelling running around. I decided to study on the first floor, since I was too damn lazy to climb the stairs to go on the second floor. After half an hour I wanted to yell out of frustration! Why? Heres why: 1) This girl who was sitting next to me was quiet for a couple of minutes, until she pulled out her lunch box full of rice and her stinky appetizer. I understand that sometimes we get very hungry while studying the whole day, but for godsake eat somewhere, faaaaaaaar away from someone who is studying next to you and is also very fucking (excuse my language) hungry. 2. Another lady on the couch seems pretty bored. It looks like she needed to chill and read a book, but no she decided to call on her cellphone. Here's the bad part, even when I'm wearing a headphone her damn conversation keeps jabbering on my ear. "SO DO YOU WANT TO ME TO BUY....WHAT ON THE GROCERY?" This lady thinks no one can hear her. I just wanted to grab her cellphone and throw it on the window. 3. The staff was actually sitting close by, on the computer, probably facebooking. 4. OMG can I say, old man farting. Yes I hear that a lot here. read more

Very well maintained and organized. Sometimes (though not as often as I would like) they do have story sessions for kids and it was a fun musical one. Overall a clean safe and well maintained facility. read more

The Milpitas Public Library is perhaps one of the best kept museums in the South Bay. They have on display many ancient artifacts that the old civilization used to use for entertainment, but the best part is - you can borrow them and take them home! These artifacts make for great decorative pieces in your home on the mantle above your fireplace, if you want a vintage throwback kind of feel. Highly recommended. Kids might not know how to use these artifacts - great time for a history lesson! read more

Overall, the new 60,000 sq. feet Milpitas library is decent. The building design and the 4-level parking garage is nice. The first floor contains children's, fiction, international language books, newspapers, magazines, CDs, and videos. The second floor contains nonfiction, teen, and references. There are more + better books compared to the old library. This library has become really busy, though. My main gripe is that it is still fairly noisy. A lot of kids like to hang out / "study" here. I wouldn't be able to concentrate at all. Also, there's often a long line outside for returning books because only two machines are available. And where are the librarians anyway? Yeah it's not perfect, but I'm just glad that I don't have to go to the old Milpitas library anymore. Needless to say, this new one is many times better. read more

You can only rent books, etc. here for free if you live in one of the Santa Clara County cities listed on the website. Sunnyvale residents are EXCLUDED as they apparently have their own libraries, even though they are in Santa Clara County. This place gives a whole new meaning to the word "Public." Talk about noisy enviornments, this was freakin' REDONKULOUS. In an attempt to study in what we thought was a quiet place, turned out to be a library-goer's nightmare. First off, parents should not be allowed to bring their little ones. It's not fair for everybody else who is hard at work while a couple kids are running around like it's a McDonald's playplace. And no I don't hate kids. I love'em. I just thought that there was already a section in the library that belongs to them. Isn't there? Second, cell phones should be banned. I mean, obviously, you have your obligatory cell phone user who texts or checks up on the time. But at least they know to put their phones on "silent." Who the hell finds it ok to make calls in the middle of a quiet area?! I guess not everyone. Finally, let's limit the chit-chatter. This includes you librarians. As much as you help us, I really don't wanna hear about how sick you are or what gross things you're coughing up. YUCK. Please, just keep it to yourselves. What I did like about the library is that it was new, modern and spacious. It presented a great place to study and it's huuuuge. But other than that, I don't have much else to say. I guess I just came at the wrong time. It was a weekend and so I figured it'd be slightly busier. I'll be willing to come back but perhaps on a different day and time. read more

I'm loving this library, its quite nice. I don't come here to study as I come here mostly to bring my 5 year old daughter to help her with her reading schools. I do understand most people's concern's with it being a bit on the loud side as it can be at the times I've been there. On top of the noise level, it doesn't seem like people actually tell guests to be quiet or to keep their noise level down. For the most part I enjoy coming here as I've been here at least once a week in the last three weeks. I love the speedy self check out, the online catalog which is available to everyone with a Santa Clara County Library card, and the aesthetics. I'm a sucker for beautiful buildings! One gripe I have is the people who bring roll on carry ons and check out every book possible. I mean its like really are you going to finish reading 45 books within the next two weeks? read more

The Milpitas Public Library is two years old this month! It is the second busiest branch in the County Library system and is the only branch that is subsidized by a local city to be opened on Sunday. The "new" library is a product of the adaptive reuse of a grammar school built in 1915. There are old photos and historical memorabilia from the old school on display in what had been a classroom. Huge new wings were added to this historic core. The parking garage is a huge improvement over the small lot at the old site on N. Milpitas Blvd (where the new Senior Center is now). There are over 200 parking spaces in the garage. There is also a parking garage across Main St. at the Valley Medical Center clinic. There is a display of the first fire truck in Milpitas. Some yelpers complain about the parking garage, but does anyone like to drive in them anywhere anytime? So, hey, kwicherbitchin... And for those who complain about long check in lines, why aren't you using the drop off slots at the east and west entrances instead of the two electronic machines? I've never had to wait for those. The library building is divided into several areas. There is the tower end, with a tall glass tower decorated with colorful mobiles. The is the historical display room. There is a very bright and open periodicals area where the school courtyard had been. There is a large auditorium with a wonderful 90+ year old stage. There is a children's area that is the lower floor of the north end of the library. Upstairs from the children's area is a teen area. And finally, with great views of the hills, is the Bob Keely Reading Room in the northeast corner. The library is definitely a very busy place. After school hours it becomes very, very, very busy and crowded. Fortunately, there are over a dozen check-out machines in two or three places in the building as well as a manned check-out desk. Several yelpers complain about excessive noise. I have not noticed this when I have visited the library. I guess some places are quiet. Some are not. It is a big library. When you find that you are in a noisy place, move to a quiet one. There is a sound proof room for toddlers and their parents where story hours are held. Many community groups hold their meetings in the library and there are regular presentations there, too. This is one of my favorite places. Want a title that is not among the 30,000+ volumes in stock? Order a book, CD, DVD, etc. online from another library's collection, have it delivered to the Milpitas Public Library, and start enjoying! read more

An excellent little library. Doesn't look like much, but the selection is pretty good (although their movie selection could be better). All rooms are very clean and brightly-lit. It's fairly easy to find what you're looking for. Plenty of computer terminals for searching the catalog or general use. I've only interacted with the staff relatively few times, but they've always been friendly. Also, their books sales are most excellent. Three big ones a year, and lately they've added smaller ones in between those. We're talking thousands of books, movies, and audio CDs (and some software) with an incredible variety, at addictingly cheap prices. I have to go to every sale even though I'm running out of room for more books at home. I've found so many great things! read more

I love how they allow you to put a 'hold' on a book from any library and they transport it to your library (within the SC system) for FREE. If the book is available, it gets to your library within 1 - 3 days. How can you beat this?? Even Nordstroms takes 7 whole days to deliver my on-line order and I pay $5 shipping! This is the BEST PUBLIC FREE system of any kind in the entire COUNTRY. I am not kidding. The more I think about this, the more impressed I am by the brilliant people who created and run this system: BRAVO!! The people who work here are really nice AND professional.
