To be honest... this is a strange park to be a fan of. It's fenced in, the grass is green, but that's about it. It's a pretty tiny park that sits just by the Millswood Bowls and Croquet clubs. It's also overshadowed by nearby and much cooler parks like Goodwood Oval, Orphanage Park, and Souter Park. These parks have lots of space, playgrounds, trees to climb... Millswood Park? Well it's got none of that.
So why on earth am I giving it four stars?
There's a fig tree. Not a giant Moretan Bay fig tree with giant roots to clamber over, but a lovely fruit baring fig tree that has supplied me with delicious figs for the last two summers.
The fruit starts to go purple around February, and it's worth popping in from time to time to see if there are some to take. I know others visit the tree too, and there always seems to be plenty of figs to go around. I've used them with my morning yoghurt, I've baked tarts, and I've eaten them fresh off the tree.
So it's true, Millswood Park isn't the most entertaining of parks, but if you enjoy delicious fresh figs it's easily worth at least 4 stars. read more
