I haven't used any other piano technician since Byron first started tuning my piano a year ago…read more He's friendly, professional, cares about the quality of work he does and it really shows in the results. I've had him tune, voice, and regulate the action on my piano. I use my piano to record professionally in a home studio, and I expect the smallest nuances of sound, feel, and expression to be just right and to my personal taste (some of these things are subjective). It's true I can be a difficult guy to please when it comes to getting my piano the way I like it. Byron seems to enjoy the challenge, and he's got the skills to live up to it. I've hired much more expensive tuners who haven't done half the job he does. I wouldn't trust my piano to anyone else at this point, and I can't recommend him enough.

He arrived exactly on time. When he came in the house, he had his own mask. I was ready to get one for him, I was happy to see he was considering safety. I felt very safe having him in our home. Bob did a relatively quick, but thorough, inspection. Set out what should be fixed, then got to work. He accepts PayPal, cash or check. I'd recommend him to anyone needing piano repair or tuning.

Bob Weller quoted me a prive of $240 to come and tune my old upright piano. When he started, he…read morecomplimented the condition of the piano. He said it had long strings, which made for good sound. He worked for about 45 minutes. When done, instead of the $240, he raised the price to $330, almost $100 over the initial price. Whatever extra service he thought justified the price increase, it did not include anything except time, which, as I mentioned, was 45 minutes in total. The kicker is that the top ten keys of the piano sound worse than before he "tuned" them. I called him once, and he said he was sick. He hung up on me. I called him a second time, and he said he resented my criticizing his work, he suggested it was my hearing, he suggested I buy a new piano, and no, he would not come and see if he could fix anything without charging me. And again he hung up on me.

I'd contacted many piano tuners on Yelp and he was by far the least expensive as well. He was on time, professional, kind, and very easy to work with. Pianos can be out of tune for many reasons. Ali takes the time to recognize the issues and is experienced enough to know what is required. People leaving negative reviews may not recognize the intricacies involved in tuning a very old piano. You pay for his experience, knowledge, and the end results, not by the minute. I had a few keys repaired and a tuning. He also fixed a few keys which were right on the brink of sticking, which I greatly appreciated. For any future piano related issues I need, I will be contacting Ali at SD Piano Tuning and Repair. My piano is not in tune and actually sounds worse than before. I'm sorry, but blowing air on keys should not cost 180 dollars. The website still shows his price as $180, but when he arrived he said that was a summer special and I'd need to pay 200. He said he'd "honor the deal," so he upsold me by 300 and 'gave me 20 off.' Also, telling someone you're going to be at their house around 12-1 means that you will be there working between 12 and one, not that you will show up between noon and one. If you're trying to communicate that you will arrive between 12-1, you say , "I'll arrive between noon and one. Is that window of time convenient?" I realized what he might have meant when I saw that he was parked outside of my home for twenty minutes before finally coming to my door at least 10 minutes after 1 PM. Either way, he was late and did not apologize. He got right to trying to get more money out of me. He spent a good portion of his time in my home on his phone, which is most likely why my piano is drastically out of tune. I noticed at least 3 phonecalls, and many stretches of silence where he was not working on my piano. My piano sounds worse than before. It is very out of tune.
