Bison Burger Macaroni and Cheese
Heather J.

Stopped in late afternoon, the place looked nice in the parking lot. Plenty of room for parking hauling a trailer. We had the onion bites as appetizer, super delicious. I had the bison burger, it was very lean and great flavor with all the toppings along with garlic aioli yum. My husband had the Ranch Hand. Omg the steak was cooked to perfection and the garlic mayo, mushrooms and cheese to top made it outstanding. Our server was Kelly, she was outgoing and made our dining experience wonderful. She was on top of everything for service. Thank you so much what a delightful dinner!!

I'm giving this place four stars for where it is. If it were in a major metropolitan area where there are tons more choices, then it's probably closer to a three, if that makes sense. I saw the place from the two lane highway that runs into Houston, MO and I was starving so I stopped in. They were under construction, but thankfully were open. I was seated right away and my server was very sweet and attentive. It was after the lunch rush and before dinner, so it was just me and a couple other tables so I have no idea how busy they get at lunch or dinner. My booth was really rigid and sort of forced me to sit more upright than I like and the table wasn't movable so my fat butt was uncomfortable but I guess that's neither here nor there. I tried the boneless wings and a burger and they were all good. Nothing to write home about but good. You could make the same boneless wings in an oven at home for sure. The burger was decent and my fries were crispy and good. I don't find myself in that area often, but if I were to go back I would definitely eat here again.

After a long day on the road, LongHorn Steakhouse in Rolla was exactly the kind of stop we needed…read more I went with the 6-ounce sirloin, paired with a baked sweet potato and fresh steamed broccoli. The steak was tender, flavorful, and cooked just the way I wanted, with a nice grilled finish that gave it that classic steakhouse taste. The broccoli was hot and fresh, and the sweet potato was a perfect side after a full day of travel, warm, filling, and a great complement to the steak. I also started with a Caesar salad, which was fresh and loaded with crunchy croutons and shaved parmesan. This made for a very satisfying dinner stop just off I-44, and it was an easy, dependable place to unwind for the evening in Rolla. LongHorn Steakhouse 1600 Old Wire Outer Rd Rolla, MO 65401

Finally got to Rolla to try Longhorn and it was not a good impression…read more Seated quickly and in a booth. Appreciated that. Server was fine. She became more engaged when, I believe, she saw we were not having the best experience so I give 4/5 stars for noticing but also because she was more attentive and gave me an extra plate quickly when I asked bc of the steak swimming in clarified butter that was supposed to be in a separate dish for the lobster instead of floating around the plate. Ribeye was actually really thin. You can see in the pics, about the same size as a thin ribeye from a recent grocery purchase I made. It was actually cooked well - for the size I would have expected overdone. Biggest issue is when I cut a piece and started to chew I had the shockwave from teeth on bone. A little chunk of bone was still in the ribeye. Pic included. I told her after we paid so she could warm the kitchen staff. Ribs - fine. Lobster - rubber. Could have thrown it across the room and it would have bounced at least twice. See pics. Also, the butter issue. Sides - side salad was crisp and the cucumber was fresh. Mash was interesting, and that could be because it's processed potato, a gluey issue from over-mixing, or that it was also taking a swim in the spilled butter. Fries were very tasty. Mac was okay. Overall spend with drinks was $109 with a 20% tip. I would not say it was worth it. We basically ate the salad and bread and called it a day.

Hub Package Store

Brother Phil and I decided that we were going to celebrate his return to somewhat normalcy, after…read morethe Covid scare, and his bout with cancer. So we opened up Google, and found the Hub Package Store, on one of the backstreets of Mountain Grove. I wouldn't say that it was in the seedy part of town, if there is such a place in this hamlet of the Ozarks. It's actually located down the road from The Richard Brothers Supermarket (see related review on their Biggerns). As we approached the doors of the Hub, we found that they were locked. There was a sign stating that in-store purchases will resume on the 28th of May, just in time for the huge Memorial day weekend! How convenient. But not for us. We were directed to pull up to the take out window. Hmmm, a take out window, at a liquor store, and we in a car. Something doesn't sound right about that. Now here's the problem with that set up. Have you ever gone to McDonald's and ordered fries with your burger? You order 2 bags of fries, cause you know that the minute they hand those things through the window, you're into them, and before you can make it a mile down the road, one of those orders of fries is gone. So you can see our dilemma. Anyway, we cruise around back and come to this smallish barred window. A nice lady slides the window open and we exchange pleasantries. I explain that I'm from California, and I've never heard of a package store, let alone a liquor store drive up window. Back where I come from I tell her, you can buy booze at the local middle school! Of course I'm being facetious, you have to get it at a high school, but you can see that I am out of my element in this part of the country. I told the nice lady that we'd like a pint of whiskey for Phil, an a 6 pak of Miller (no chance in hell that they'd have Genuine Draft, my daughter has to special order it in Franklin TN, so it would be highly unlikely that a small town in Missouri would carry it.) I told her no need to bag it, we'll drink it here. After I apologized for that old joke, the Hub lady filled our order. As we were about to leave, I thanked her, but mentioned, I do have a serious question for you. She said "of course Honey" so I asked, since you have to pass all the liquor through this window, how do you shove the kegs through? At that point she was done with this Californian. Quick Tip: Beers aren't fries, so save the fries till you get home. Did I mention that the Police station is just up the street?
