Anyone read "Omnivore's Dilemma" or watch "Food, Inc.?" Well, my interest in where my food comes…read morefrom started over 3 years ago and now I have 4 chickens and 2 mushroom logs with hopes of a raised organic garden in my near future. I stumbled upon Matt, the owner, of Microfarm Organic Gardens. He is a handy guy! He can get you set up with an organic garden, mushroom gardens, chicken coops, seedlings, greenhouses, and compost systems. He even helps install gutters that will drain into rain barrels. Wait, that is not all...he will even maintain your garden when you're away on holiday or if you just plain don't want to do the work, but only reap the rewards. Well, like all good service, he comes at a hefty price. Granted, you can find chicken coops online for half his price, but for the quality and craftsmanship of his work it was worth every penny. We purchased a custom made chicken tractor (it's on wheels and can move around your yard for optimal fertilization). He made it within a week and delivered it. All smiles and very helpful. I trust Matt and his extensive knowledge on gardening, composting, and making things. He does not sell chickens, but can give you a few trusted names of places to find them. You can find him at Atherton Mills Market. He has examples of a 2' raised bed and trellis, water barrel system, and the chicken tractor there. If I could afford all my projects, I would have him set me up for living off my land right now. Until then, I'll save up my money!
