So, appt is actually for 10:45 AM Arrived and sat until 11:25 AM Taken to X-ray area at 11:25 AM. Sat in X-ray wait area until 11:35 AM Had X-rays taken and completed at 11:50 AM Sent back out to main wait area Sent to exam.t room #2 to meet with surgeon at 12:00 PM. Met with surgeon Lalonde and resident until 12:10 PM Sent back to main desk to get follow-up appt. at 12:15 PM Person at desk could not operate booking system and other person at lunch. Option to wait until 12:30 PM when she returns or call back later. Left and called back later. This is crappy time-wasting Canadian medicine.

I have never been to the Riverside Hospital before, but it looks like I will be frequenting this hospital indefinitely. It is a quaint hospital, that offers several services and clinics on site, with specialized doctors like internal medicine, physiotherapists, ect. They have a blood lab on site as well as x-ray and ultrasound lab on site. Everyone was super helpful and friendly. All services were quick and top notch. It was an easy to navigate hospital as well. I did find it a tad dark in the hospital, but I hate bright fluorescent lighting, so it was perfect for me! There is a drop off area at the main entrance, as well as a full functioning Tim Hortons on site with tons of seating.

Femur surgery by foot & ankle surgeon. Bad outcome…read more After three days waiting in Ottawa Civic room713 my distal femur fracture internal fixation surgery was done by Drs. Lalonde and Muellenkamp. Both are foot and ankle speciaists. NOT knee surgeons. It did not go well. My result is a large hard lump on the outside of my right knee. I am told this is a misplaced/displaced screw from the surgery. An entirely depressing outcome. His solution? Open the site again and put the hardware back where it should be. Why was this not done initially? No answer. I would never, ever recommend Dr. Lalonde for any procedure. This is the worst of Canadian 'health' care. I am off to Toronto at my expense to have this mess fixed correctly. A similar situation happened twelve years ago also at the Civic when Dr. Philippe Phan, spinal surgeon, operated on my left wrist and did not inform me pins had bern inserted. I could not flex my wrist so I travelled from Ottawa to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto to have the wrist re-opened and the pins removed. Wrist then worked fine. There are problems in orthopedics in Ottawa.

They advised me he go to emerg asap due to Oxygen levels becoming dangerously low, his seizure and vomiting and complaints by my son of feeling dizzy. Fast forward to diagnostics about 3 hours later. They found pnemonia both lungs, aspiration and his blood levels and bloodwork were off the chart for abnormal. I highly commend diagnostics in their finding out immediately and caring for my son. However, the RN's who attended on day and night shift, were clearly looking annoyed because of my son's inability to communicate and when I asked for clarification on two concerns I had for him. A urinal was promptly placed on his table and specimen bottle, telling him to urinate. My son had not drank or eaten in 9 hours by that time, he was not able to unrinate. I waited 4 hours for the physicians to determine how to adjust his 4 seizure medications, and I was grateful they took the time to check carefully into this. So like I said, diagnostics and the neurologist were five star in treatment. Nothing was offered for my son to eat or drink as of 8 that night. When my son was given the prescriptions and told he was able to leave, they placed all paperwork on the table and walked away. I was not even offered a wheelchair to bring my son to the main doors so we could get a cab. I am a 64 year old woman, my son is 27 years old special needs with autism and epilepsy and a diagnosis of aspiration pnemonia. Given the circumstances, I honestsly feel the nurses on duty for my son could have shown a little more understanding and less annoyance, considering I barely bothered them and there were a lot of other patients ringing the bells non stop. I did not bother anybody once. I am a Registered Practical Nurse so I get the stress on working Christmas Eve. But, this treatment was clearly unethical, particularly since I had to practically carry my 256 pound son to the emergency doors because not one staff cared enough to bring me a wheelchair to help my son as we left. I would not recommend this hospital to my worst enemy.

The "track" is the floor your room is on!!! I passed on this. Sweltering room not rectified with a table fan from the 1930's complete with balls of lint. Better bathrooms in homeless shelters. Scolded by nurses. Broken blood pressure cuffs. This is a fleabag hotel where the guest is on no one's radar. It is a moneymaking assembly line for cardio surgeons atop the pyramid. I still bear the protruding stitch catching on every top I wear; ouch! Apparently everyone but me knows it as his "signature."

This review is only for the Family Birthing Centre (first pregnancy)…read more Firstly I would like to say, the family birthing centre portion of the website lists exactly what you can expect before during and after and all the essentials you may need to bring with you. I am going to highly recommend anyone giving birth here to have a quick read. I arrived at the emergency at around 5:30am as I had starting having contractions, we were escorted by security to the birthing unit where we firstly spent some time being assessed (private area, bed, hooked up to monitors for assessment) before we were assigned a room roughly within the hour. The birthing room was large, private bathroom with tub, a lounging chair for partner. It was equipped with everything. Most nurses (throughout my 2 day stay) were kind, helpful, just there to get the job done. The on call OB was informative, decisions when to administer some sort of pain medications were made quickly, she even answered all my questions when I was informed I had to undergo an emergency c section. The procedure it self was well planned, there is a team of professionals in that room that all have a purpose. There were minor complications and baby was taken under care to another room quickly. Post surgery, we were brought to a private room, large windows, private bathroom, touch screen so you can order food (various options). The floor also has an area with coffee/ hot water station, a fridge filled with juice/ milk, sandwiches etc for use. The nurse do try and help with things like baby latching support, will bring pump on request etc. The only negative part of the experience was asking for baby formula, at sometime the request wasn't fulfilled in a timely manner. When our nurse was on break at night, the backup nurse told us to just wait till she returns all while the baby was crying. Recommendations: Sign up for at home midwife support if offered. They came home, checked baby weight, my stitches, they can even prescribe some medications and do tests at the comfort of your own home. Consider bringing your own formula just incase.

I visited a few months ago (end of June) for a cough that didn't go away after the wildfire smoke had hung around Ottawa. I also suspected a UTI. I arrived before the clinic opened. It's located inside a department store (and there's a Timmy's at the other end). There wasn't a place to sit outside the clinic before it opens, but there was patio furniture set up for display nearby :0 Nobody seemed to mind me setting up there for the hour or so. Once I was inside, I was able to be seen fairly quickly. The facilities are clean (you would hope so, of course, and they are), and the RN I saw was really kind and listened to me. Turns out I had bronchitis (and no UTI). She prescribed me a puffer and gave me instructions on how to use it/for how long. Then I was on my way. I'm relatively new to Canada (a permanent resident from the US), so I'm also relatively new to the walk-in clinic system. But like an urgent care clinic, it seems critical to show up early. Being first in line helped.
