I've had only good experiences at the Queensway Carleton hospital. Wait times for our patient care are reasonable.

I had to go to the emergency today after a Doppler appointment at a clinic. I was seen by the emergency doctor, had bloodwork done and given a prescription and referred to specialist and on my way home in 2.5 hours. The quality of care I received was top notch. Everyone was so pleasant and friendly, this is why I like my community hospital. read more

I am pleased to say I have always found the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital to be friendly, courteous and very efficient. Tonight was no exception. Within two hours, I was processed through reception, assessed by a nurse, had an X-Ray taken, spoke to a competent doctor who took the time to show me where my left wrist was broken, and had a purple cast perfectly applied by an empathetic nurse who asked if I would like some Tylenol for pain. They were a great team! They made me feel relaxed and comfortable, while in the midst of feeling much discomfort after having fallen on black ice. So glad they were there for me! Very little wait time with my 3 year old, Everyone was very friendly and helpful, Couldn't ask for a better experience

During 19.5 hours of latent labour and 12 hours of active labour before an emergency Caesarean section, and then three days in the hospital afterward, the staff from beginning to end were all SO amazing! I cannot express how grateful we are of everyone's care, knowledge (and sharing of that knowledge), and calm demeanour during my first childbirth, one that came with many complications. Even during four hours of a fever and violent chills, and the high possibility of losing our little guy, they still managed to keep both my husband and I calm and did everything in their power to help us get through a scary, anxious, but also exciting time after our healthy baby was born. From the diabetes clinic and non-stress tests during my pregnancy to postpartum care and the breastfeeding clinic, the staff really went out of their way to make sure my baby and I were well taken care of. They made sure my husband was fully involved and taken care of as well. We weren't sure how everything would go during the pandemic, especially being first-time parents, but they didn't miss a beat. It could've easily all been incredibly overwhelming, but instead we felt safe, assured, and ready for the new adventure ahead. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! read more

I give the QCH a rating of THREE Their ER a 2 (Two) why When I was hospitalized a 2nd time in June the floor nurses I was assigned all three shifts, the HCAs and the RPNS especially were great while all I had was myself and got to look out the window at a roof. I was hooked up to IV'S NO FOOD ALLOWED FOR 4 DAYS slowly introduced watered down juices. thickened water. I was there for a stomach Problem. NOW, their ER I've had positive and very bad experiences. I am what THEY consider a fairly frequent flyer, WHY ppl ask? I'm a heart patient with the most serious one being my Heart. I have a long lasting Arrythmia (decades) which has developed into Congestive Heart Failure. I don't drink, smoke, or do illegal drugs. I have a lot of chronic/painful medical conditions. I am disabled,arrhythmia long-lasting hemorrhaging so can only get there by 911 ambulance. It's all about professionalism. If you are flat line or stroke, you come infirst which is correct or internal arrhythmialong-lasting hemorrhaging they are in resus. Their ER only has one Doctor after 11pm to 6 am. that is why the wait is so long and not the amount of people. Some days there are a lot of stroke codes and mild Heart attacks or respiratory problems. IF THE PARAMEDICS DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY AND READ their ECG strips YOU GO RIGHT TO THE HEART INSTITUTE. They also see all ages of people. Children have to wait just as long there as they do at CHEO. Nurses and doctors are people, patients too. I make it a point not to bully the staff. It's not going to get you anywhere, but, we have rights too! Stand up for yourself if you know you are REALLY NOT WELL. They downplay everything, unless they have blood tests or radiology test that scream red light! I know a person who the local hospitals ignored because of normal tests. Turned out she had stage 4 colon cancer. Be your own advocate, if you really are sick and especially live alone. refuse to go home, until you are more stable. I also know at the Ottawa hospital sending a brain surgery patient aneurysm fix, forced to go home because no beds, the surgeon was so worried he gave her his pager. That is never done for patients in Ontario Canada. incompetentIn the QCH I knew a person who was on crutches because this hospital kept an liaisonincompetant surgeon on Staff. So, if you have legitimate problems with their Staff or ER. Report it to their Patient liason first, then go to the Ontario Ombudsmen for the Ministry of Health. YOU CAN EVEN REPORT THEM TO THE ONTARIO COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS. Our biggest problem is it's time to fight their ADMINISTRATOR TO FIGHT FOR MORE DOCTORS OVERNIGHT AT THIS HOSPITAL. AND MORE NURSES. WHY, WHILE I WAS IN the observation overload in the hallway in severe spasms, stomach and spine, no pain relief given, I saw STAFF FROM THEIR ER REGULARLY TAKEN AWAY FROM THE ER TO THE OTHER FLOORS INCLUDING THE ATTENDING DOCTOR in the ER for code blues, that means there are very little or no doctors in the hospital not even residents. Even ER nurses were running. with the Doctor. They are literally working on two floors while people suffer. I understand a code blue is a top priority, but what if one is going on after they leave in obs or resuscitation? sheesh. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. PREMIERE DOUG FORD AND JUSTIN TRUDEAU PM GIVING IN TO PROVINCES LETTING THEM SPEND THE LATEST TRANSFER MONEY DEDICATED TO HEALTH CARE, ON PRIVATIZATION INSTEAD OF WHERE IS WAS ABSOLUTELY NEEDED!FIGHTING IT IS UP TO EVERYONE TO STOP BICKERING ABOUT THE LONG WAITS AND START STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND FIGHTING FOR WHAT IS RIGHT FOR EACH AND EVERYONE OF US BASED ON ILLNESS AND NOT THE TOP BIDDER $$$$ THE ONTARIO HEALTH COALITION IS FIGHTING FOR ALL ONTARIANS THE REQUEST DONATIONS, BUT, THEY DO NOT DEMAND IT THEY GOT PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER ONTARIO TO PROTEST AT QUEENS PARK THIS PAST WEEK. 8,000 TO 10,000 PEOPLE WERE ESTIMATED TO BE THERE HERE IS THEIR EMAIL LINK TO LEARN MORE THEY WANT YOUR STORIES SO THEY HAVE MORE FIGHTING POWER. I visited the QCH for an ankle injury that had me leaving in an aircast after a few hours of waiting. The staff were attentive and helpful, but it is a smaller hospital and depending on time of day and other things going on the ER can be really busy and a long wait. Their billing system seems to be a bit slow or something, as I didn't get my bill for my air cast for several months (maybe 6) after leaving, and it wasn't very clear- which lead to some complications for me. Overall, it's not my first choice for an emergency room, but is convenient if you're located in the West end or Nepean. read more

WORST SERVICE IVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE. 80% of the nurses are all lazy and chatty they don't do they're jobs I had a nurse literally laugh and chat with another nurse right infront of me meanwhile I was about to pass out. The wait times are unbelievable. For someone like me who has severe asthma I need them to start the asthma procedure ASAP so I could breath, when I came in I had to wait a whole hour before I got my puffer. Good medical care but little attention paid to the patient as a person. I was a patient in an observation ward and watched groups of nurses chatting on their cellphones, looking up real estate on their office computers (apparently the nursing staff want Kristin to move to Barrhaven!), joking and laughing then acting annoyed when a patient asks for a glass of water or a bedpan. In a nearby cubicle, I unfortunately overheard a sad conversation between a doctor and patient that was carried out in a rushed detached manner. Literally a few minutes later, the doctor and several nurses were joking about something else right outside this poor man's cubicle. I felt sad thinking how much it could have meant to this patient to have had a few more unhurried, compassionate minutes of this doctor's time. Instead, I am guessing he felt like a nuisance; as I did. read more

I really don't get how anyone can leave anything but a good review for a hospital. Do you even know what these people go through in a day, more so during a pandemic? My daughter cut her hand while doing some meal prep. Initially she thought it was just a nick, but when the blood started to gush, she brought it to my attention. Good thing I was in the same room, watching TV. We packed some snacks, got into the car, and headed to the emergency room. We arrived at 230, and left at 530. I'm surprised it take take longer than that, given that I'm sure there must have been cases that needed more immediate attention. Still, thankful it didn't take very long. So, 5 stars for a hand cut, and 5 stitches? No. I leave 5 stars, because, if it wasn't for the care and attention by the staff at QCH, I would not be alive today. I'm a cancer survivor. All surgeries and treatments were performed at this wonderful facility. Looking back, I only have one negative thought - and it's a selfish one that I'm ashamed to admit. I was admitted in May 20, 2016. It was uncommonly warm that week, and the AC in the ward hadn't been turned on yet. That would happen June 1st. As "luck" would have it, I needed another surgery, and ended up in ICU for 10 days. By the time I left the ICU, the AC had been turned on, and my month long stay at the hospital was as comfortable as it could be. The people that work there are heroes, and deserve every ounce of respect that we owe them. read more

The worst emergency room in Canada. The worst. They held my father for 3 hours against his well with no food after he waited 8 hours to get in. Reason: he refused to take a booster shot. They just left him in the room Without saying a word. the dr argued with him then literally just walked out without a word. Three years back, I was feeling pain on my side, went there and they sent me for a CTscan despite the fact i told the Dr I maybe pregnant. I lose the baby 3 weeks later. This hospital is purely about making money. Beware of this place. read more

What is with the planning at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital? I park in VISITOR parking, which is located at the north east entrance. I go to check in for my appointment only to be told to go to the west entrance. OK BUT THERE ISN'T ANY PARKING AT THE WEST ENTRANCE!! For those of us who have to walk on a cane with severe arthritis, could you make the signage, parking, and getting to your check-in office a bit MORE accessible. What am I supposed to do when I have to go back for my follow-up appointment? Again, there isn't any visitor parking at the WEST ENTRANCE FOR APPOINTMENT CHECK-INS! I had a tonsillectomy surgery two weeks ago, and was really nervous/scared about it. I have never had any prior surgery, so this was my first. It was a very quick, and smooth procedure. Of course the waiting time was fairly long, but that's what is expected of the Canadian health care system. The staff at this hospital are the reason why I will not fear the possibility of another surgery in the future. They were truly angels! So kind, nice, assuring, and warm people! They really made me feel calm, and I felt as if they were family! The nurses, the surgeon, and the staff in general did a fantastic job! 5/5 for them! read more

This place even if it is a hospital was quite the experience, its a big place but they have greeters all over the place to help u get u where u are going. The medical staff are certainly top notch, my nurses were great i was alone pre op and they made sure to check in with me often while i waited, laughed at my jokes (even if they were cheesey). Place was uber clean and operated like a well oiled machine. After my surgery i got cookies and a choice of juices or soda. If i had a negative it was the wifi, BUT we dont go to hispitals for thier awesome wifi connectivity. And if i could give this place 6 stars it would be the follow up.....24 hours later the hospital phoned to check up on me, see if i was comfortable, if my meds were working, and the lady i spoke with reminded me of my mom....."even though u feel alright and it is canada day make sure you take it easy" Top notch! read more

i will never go to the ER or this hospital in my life again I have kidney stone they keep me in the ER for 4 days and on morphine till they perform the surgery after i scolded them i was in so much in pain and crying like a baby i said bring the police even the army ,i don't care bcoz a sign they always put respect or you will be dealt with you or really what about my rights ,a Dog is treat it better than me what a shame a lots happened to me there ,but the Night Shift i Admit they are very good and nice read more

i have been admitted 5 times over last 14 months. Three of the admissions have been great experiences with great care from the nurses and the new unit is much nicer which i am sure makes a better working environment for the nurses. Two admssions were unpleasnt from start to end interms of nursing care and atitude. Since the last two are a big improvement and they could not have been more pleasant and concerned and intelligent and attentive I have to give them a five star. rating. Things seem to be improving dramatically on this surgical service. My surgeon is awesome. Has hung in with me through all my complications from a fall that was my cats fault to a septic arthritis that was a dentists fault. He has got me through all of them with a leg intact and functioning which is amazing. All the other specialists he has consulted have been pleasant and knowledgeable as well. Overall excluding the 2 unpleasant experiences, I have to say this is a great hospital and I send my patients here all the time for consults and procedures and very rarely are they not happy with their experience. Most patientss think the specialists they see are great and the care has been excellent. Comments about emergency services are ubiquitous across ontario hospitals and it is a real hit and miss on the experience depending on the day and time due to underfunding of hospitals and emergencies and not enough beds or ambulances. Emergency staff are people who get tired during busy long shifts like all humans. Had a severe injury on the 24th of March. I had high hopes it was bruising and nothing broken. Unfortunately found my tibia is broken plateau as well a complete tear on my acl. But didn't find this out until I got a call for the MRI because my pain was not deemed an emergency. Instead I was sent home then called at 7 am on the 26th of March for an MRI. Each visit was a minimum of 7 to 9 hours of my life. Then I was told I couldn't drink any water since surgery for the acl would be the same day. Waited more time and finally the ortho doctor came to see me. He sent me home with no treatment after that much time passed! He handed me his private practice card and wrote in blue pen to contact his office in 2 weeks. OMG. So like the sheep I am, I sat on my couch and called his office to be rudely confronted by his receptionist that I've called too many days early. Seriously? In total I spent over 36 hours waiting in that horrible hospital. Got bored so started video recording the nurses gossiping while people were waiting to talk to one of them. Then recorded a guy bleeding from his hand for over 40 minutes in a room they left the door open in the hospital gown he was so privileged to use. This is by far the worst hospital Canada has to offer. read more

We recently moved to the Ottawa area and on July 09 my wife require medical care. We were unable to access a walk in clinic or our family doctor. Our only alternative was the emergency department of the Queensway Carlton hospital. As it turned out, Monday was an extremely busy day but the staff handled the flow in a very professional and organized process. We were at the hospital for nine hours that included a variety of specialized tests. With each test you have to be patient and wait your turn for lab results and the Doctor's visit. The staff were excellent and if your experienced medical care in other provinces you would understand that having the Queensway Carlton as your local hospital is a gift. Thank you. read more

My mother went in with congestive heart failure, water on lungs, pneaumonia, and barely alive, she was booked in and although treatment started off good, most nurses gave her great care while she was there.It quickly went downhill as the hospital wanted my mother out because they need beds so bad, just all of a sudden said she was getting discharged and nothing more they can do with her! talked to me ignorantly and said she can go back to her long-term care facility and get care there, we can't do anything for her now? wth? The nurse from long-term care facility said your mom should be staying in hospital, and also the home has a Influenza-A outbreak and is not the place your mom should be! The Queensway Carleton Hospital treating a human being like this is disgusting! We all love our families imagine your mother getting treated like that on her death bed! I am taking this to the highest level of complaints possible! Terrible way to treat a person with critical care and their family members! Dispicable! do not go there! The people that did this and involved will have their day for the treatment of this, I am so disgusted right now, not to mention grieving her final days! The people at long-term care said we will give her better care here! Thank you to Extendicare Meddex on baseline rd.! Excellent staff at this long-term home! I do have to say that while my mother was in for those 3 days the nurses were very good with her! The Nurse Rita who was discharging her was ignorant and rude, no empathy or bed side manner, said your mother can have her final days at nursing home! The condition of my mother and still had all the same conditions she went in with and did not get all the treatment she very well needed! It is because they try to get you out because they need beds, and this is the reality and you get spoken to without no dignity or respect! This is not my first time through this procedure! We are human not cattle or numbers just in case the doctors and nurses need reminding, you took an oath and the service was the worst I have ever seen in my life in regards of her continuing care and the state she was in to be discharged also the fact that the long-term home telling them about the Influenza-A outbreak they had there, that it was not wise considering the condition my mother was in! Appalling communication at the QCH. My husband was asked if he wanted someone called post-operatively. He said yes and gave my number to both admissions and to OR staff. Nobody called. Not the surgeon; not a resident; not a nurse. The switchboard had no information and would not forward any call to someone who did have information. When he was to be discharged, nobody called. So when I came to visit he was dressed and waiting in his room for pickup. "Sorry" they say. Sorry sucks. It is so much hot air between the teeth. I get better communication from my car mechanic than the QCH. read more
