This Walgreens location is a mess. Literally and figuratively. Called pharmacy at 8am (opening…read moretime) and was instantly on hold with two calls in front of me. OK that's fine. I know that a lot of people have the same idea right when it opens. But I was on hold for 36 minutes before someone answered. That person told me my refilled had already been called in and that it would be ready in a couple of hours. Click hung up. I went in four hours later and it's not ready. This is only one of many instances where their lines are long, where counter staff are abrupt, where shelves are disorganized, where the floor is dirty, where the bathroom has no toilet paper, when staff walk around talking about going on a break, eating snacks and shuffling around. The parking lot is a snarl. I've given them plenty of times to redeem themselves to little avail (I will say there are a few staff members who go above and beyond, but they're rarely on shift). Avoid this Wags.

In times of need, they have arranged to have my critical medications couriered to my home, or shipped to me out-of-state (when allowed). Finally, when an insurance pre-authorization letter threatened to delay my fill, they were able to offer it to me at a cash price BELOW GoodRx and those other coupon services. ​If you are using one of those big chain pharmacies and are frustrated with their long wait times, out-of-stock issues, and poor service, switch to Medical Arts Clayton Pharmacy...you'll be glad you did. AND it's got a fairly new soda fountain. Apparently, the owner always dreamt of running her own fountaing and I think purchased one on Ebay. It really adds to the originality of the place. It's just an all-around fun place to visit. They expanded not long ago, so there's even more stuff from which to choose. I like their large selection of liquid stevia and teas. They actually have some stuff you can't find at Whole Foods. Imagine that! AND you're supporting a locally owned business. Always a good thing!

There is an actual pharmacy at the back of the store, although I never actually got back that far. i was far too enthralled by all the kitschy gifts and just generally fun stuff they had for sale in the store. Just all kinds of goofiness. Great time for browsing/shopping. The soda/food bar was a real throwback. You just sit on one of the '50s time warp bar stools and place your order. I got me a chili dog, a Festivus for the Restivus ice cream soda (more on that later), and then the waitresses talked me into a slice of chocolate meringue - yeah, you heard me right - pie. The chili dog "prep" area is pretty unassuming, a simple hot dog roller and a couple of crock pots. But hey, home made chili fixin's sure beat from a can. And they asked me if I wanted cheese and onions, so I was able to say yes but light on the onion. That's how it came, too. The chili dog was pretty good. Standard dog, but seemed to be a larger variety. Chili was definitely home made, with a nice variety of ingredients. Just a bit bland, though. The Festivus for the Restivus ice cream soda was from a list of 5 Holiday Specials they had for shakes and ice cream sodas. Festivus is made of blueberry and blackberry syrups in seltzer with ice cream. I know the name has nothing to do with the ingredients, but it was still mighty tasty. An authentic soda jerk drink, that you just don't find anymore. Now they intrigued me with the suggestion of chocolate meringue pie for dessert. I was already full, but....anyway, my slice was the first one from the pie that had just come out of the oven. Nice thing about meringue, you can slice it while it is still hot. So I get this pie slice with a real crust, hot chocolate filling, and 3 inches of meringue. Who'd a thought those flavors would mix so well. They do! A final thought on the waitresses. They were a hoot. Very friendly, talkative, fun, don't mind kidding you - and they even took a picture of me and my pie slice & put it on the store's Facebook page (with my permission, of course). So the food was pretty good, the place is great to browse, and the experience was enjoyable.

I wanted to get cash back, I asked what the limit was and was told $40. I informed the cashier that I would like to do two different transactions and was told, "no we can't do that." I asked why, and she said, "we have a limit of $40 and we have an ATM in here." And so?... I do not want to use an ATM, how are you going to control how I spend my $$? The store must be profiting off having the ATMs. I also noticed that the 2 self checkout kiosk also have large signage stating "no cashback." That must be for them to control it. This is very different. I don't do cashback often, but whenever I've had to (due to convenience), I've never been stopped. Needless to say, I left the items at the counter and walked out. I wanted those items, but I wanted my cash more. I drove down the street instead, purchased the same items for less, did 2 transactions and withdraw the cash I needed.

The employee started yelling at me that this location did not have a self checkout option. I asked why several people around me were able to scan their groceries and she said they pay $12 a month for that option in the app. In what world does it make sense to pay $12 a month to scan your own groceries?!? I know that part is not under the employee's control but her attitude is. They need to consider putting her in a different part of the store where she is not so customer facing... I gladly took my items and went to a checkout counter several aisles away where a cashier greeted me nicely and was super prompt. In the background, I continued to hear the banshee in the scan and go counter yelling at other customers that "this location does not have self checkout." Maybe better signage is needed...
