Magical beauty, but with the creature comforts you enjoy. I always miss it greatly once I leave, that's the sign of a place getting ahold of you.

Whatever we needed or asked for they were ready to accommodate us. At one point we needed a gas can and they provided it. We got there late (10 pm or so), when the front office was closed. We called the phone number posted on the front door and someone came within 10 minutes to let us into the house we rented. We rented the Sears house. The place comes with a washer and dryer. This is great for those on bikes, this means you can carry less clothes and wash your jeans and shirts along with your "unmentionables" every night. Laundry detergent, shampoo, body wash, and towels are provided. I would definitely return and stay here. We bought a few beers and relaxed at night. The room has satellite television which is great to watch the news and local weather daily. The A/C worked and cooled the house great. We ate breakfast at the local gas station down by Ozark. It was a great diner with big breakfast plates. The place is called Hillbilly Hideout. If you are on your motorcycle, remember that the ride up to the Sears house is tricky. There's pavement for a short stretch but then there's loose gravel/rocks. This can be a little difficult to cruise or ride on with two wheels. Makes your front wheel dance left to right quite a bit.

She was friendly & seemed genuinely interested in helping us with whatever we might need. - Cathy in the dining room served us breakfast with a smile. (We've been to about a dozen hotels this year & this is the ONLY one to be cautious enough to have someone serving the hot foods. I appreciate the extra consideration) She explained the serving process thoroughly & was incredibly kind. She was a sweet soul who was really easy to talk with, made sure we got everything we needed and was encouraging about our journey. (She's the main reason I'm writing a review ) 4 STARS for the actual room The beds are VERY comfortable, everything is clean & tidy, and with an ease of use. Parking was right outside the room which made for easy loading & unloading especially since we were traveling with our two dogs. We were able to get them right onto the room without disturbing anyone else. The room has a TV and fridge that we'd have used had we stayed longer. 3 STARS for the smell of the room I think it's the humidity in this state that makes everything smell stale & like mildew. We're from Arizona where everything is DRY as a bone. But the smell when we first came in was very unpleasant. We used air freshener and turned the A/C on and that seemed to help (or we just grew accustomed to the smell who knows) Anyway...nice place, good rates, easy booking, friendly staff...

The staff are the nicest people we have encountered this whole trip. The breakfast was the best we've had also. Extremely Disappointed - Unsafe Room Conditions & Poor Management…read moreWe stayed at Holiday Inn Express Van Buren-Ft Smith Area in July 2025, and it was an incredibly frustrating experience. We booked two rooms, but one had no working air conditioning, with 97° weather outside and even hotter inside, it was completely uninhabitable. We had an infant with us, and when we asked for help at the front desk, we were told no other rooms were available. So, our entire group was forced to squeeze into one room for the night. To make things worse, we checked in just before 2:00 a.m., and housekeeping knocked on our door at 8:15 a.m. because the front desk clerk checked us out 5 minutes after we arrived. The noise woke everyone, including our baby, after a long night of travel. I attempted to resolve this with hotel management. The front desk initially told us the manager would call us, but that call never came. When I called the corporate office myself, the manager argued with me and then hung up. Completely unprofessional. I've now had to dispute the charges with my credit card company because the hotel charged me for both rooms, including the one we could not use. Based on the poor service, unsafe conditions, and total lack of follow-up, I would not have anyone stay here! I expected better from Holiday Inn Express and IHG. I do not recommend this location. After reading several other reviews looks to be the MO for this location! RIP OFF!

If you look on the map it looks like you are in the middle of a pasture, and that's sort of how it feels. It's the most comfortable place I've ever stayed. And the owners, Barbara and Edward Clare are almost like family to all of their guests. When you stop in the main house they have a fresh baked loaf of bread for you--there's butter and blackberry jelly in your fridge at one of the two cottages. Now if you are looking for 5-star accommodations with the finest spa amenities, this is not your place. If you are looking for a country cabin with a fire pit, comfy bed, rustic beauty of the mountains all around you--then you have hit pay-dirt. This is the only place I stay in the area. Based on when you books you will pay $80-$100 per night, less than most hotels in the area. We stayed the night before in Mena and regretted it. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen with coffee, hot tea and enough spices, pots, pans and dishes for you to cook what ever you want. I make breakfast every time I'm there. I grab some eggs and ham at the local convenience store and I'm set. The bed is comfy and the bathrooms is super clean. They have DISH Network, so you can watch television or enjoy the selection of VHS tapes. But really you should go sit on the porch and see the stars or listen for the wildlife to come scurrying by.
