What was amazing about today's exchange was that I informed him that I was flying back to North Carolina tomorrow and that shipping them once repaired would be fine. My friend raved about this place when I visited Chicago. Having lived in NYC, I have trouble finding places where the look, style, and range of desirable clothing I want gets close to what SOHO or Brooklyn can offer, so I was very skeptical to say the least, but sometimes, your expectations are blown out of the water. In short...this place really really thoroughly impressed me for the following reasons: 1) The range of selection is incredible..any size, a wide price range, any type of dye, any style of denim...you name it, this place has got it. 2) Whoever merchandises has got a great eye. No...not everything in there will fancy your interest, but it'll be absurd for any store to be that way. But every item I picked up was reasonably priced relative to its quality and design. Someone here clearly hand picks each item and thinks about not just the style but the fit, quality, and value of an item...very impressed overall. This is such a hard thing to do right...finding an agreeable point of value and quality/design that offers maximum value for the customer and store. 3) Service...yes, the service is fantastic. Having worked very closely with a lot of retail clients, service is soooooo tough in a retail environment. It's not just that the service is very knowledgeable and genuinely helpful, but the it's consistently very excellent. That's hard to accomplish in any retail environment (clothing, food, cafes, etc.). Rain or shine, there's always someone knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to help you out. And if you don't want to be bothered, they give you your space too. But if you're serious about picking up the perfect pair of jeans, listen to these folks. They know their stuff in and out. 4) I know this place is known for their denim...but everything else is pretty fantastic too. Mildblend doesn't have quite the range of tops relative to their expansive collection of denim, but it's still a very solid offering. And guess what, they know their strength and specialty is denim, and they are hands down the best in that department. With regards to tops, footwear, accessories, etc., perhaps not the biggest selection, but as stated earlier, someone's got a great eye for style, quality, and value. Truth of the matter is...if you're the type that goes to the store, tries everything on, and then goes online to find the same thing at the cheapest place possible, I'm confident that these guys will still provide incredible service and expose you to new brands, styles, fits, etc. to make sure you find what you're looking for or didn't know worked well for you. But I value everything these guys offer outside of just the product. I will walk out with not just exactly what I had in mind but something better, because of the experience and knowledge of the people who work here. They don't care about selling you what's most expensive or in stock or hip...they genuinely care about what works for you. That is the biggest hallmark of an excellent store. If that means paying a little extra...and I mean very very little, I'm totally fine. Their pricing is very competitive for the stuff they offer. Not only that, they take really good care of you after the sale and also hem your jeans...try doing that with an online place. Truth of the matter is, the pricing for most of these goods are controlled anyway, so you wouldn't even find a better deal online. I'm thoroughly impressed. Everyone raves about how small businesses are gems...but truth of the matter is, few actually are. This place on the other hand is the pinnacle of a good small business to me. Great Denim shop. They have a really good selection here of jeans and carry some really good brands. The owner was giving me a great deal on an item I was looking for, but unfortunately it did not fit. Seriously, if you want a pair of good jeans, this is the place to come first. They even have a sale rack. I'd say this is the best place to look for raw denim in all of Chicago. The employees I met there were really cool and helpful and are even personal fans of the brands that are sold in the store. Mildblend is also the only location in Chicago that offers chainstitching for jeans. We need small businesses like this one in our city. read more

To put it simply, I'm incredibly picky with jeans. Having never purchased denim from anywhere other than the chain mall type stores, I was pretty nervous to buy high end jeans. The staff took at LEAST an hour of their time to bring me every possible jean they though would work for me. I walked into MildBlend initially just to look around. I've past by their location a ton of time but never went in. Within ten minutes I was in the fitting room trying on, quite possibly, the best denim I've seen in Chicago in a long time. Came here to buy a new pair of jeans; I had some 3sixteens that both blew out and had disintegrated pocket bags. The people in the store are great, and went out of their way to help me find a replacement pair. Be aware, however, that they stock almost no straight leg jeans at all. Everything in this place is slim or skinny. If that's what you're looking for, you're in the right place. I ended up landing on a pair of ST-120x with indigo warp and weft, and they chain-stitch hemmed them for me right in-house. Can't say enough good things about the service here. It was so obvious that the guy helping me out was a denim-head. While we were talking, he even went into the back and pulled out a pair of jeans that weren't technically for sale and I got to try them on. Man, I don't want to say what they were exactly since they were a gift from the owner of Naked and Famous to the owner of the store, but man. What a great night this turned out to be. I've been waiting a while for Chicago's answer to Self Edge or Blue in Green and it looks like this is it. If you're a denim head or into heritage brands this is the place for you. Luke may be one of the nicest, most knowledgeable people I've ever met in regards to denim, repairs and garment construction - he's genuinely passionate about the brands he has in the store. (For the record my first time in the store was today - I'm not a friend or marketer here to write a glowing review). It sounds like they'll be branching out into Japanese denim in the near future which is really exciting if you're in the Midwest and have had to buy denim sight-unseen to get the really interesting stuff. If you want clothes that aren't disposable and you intend to get years of really heavy wear out of them, then this is the place for you. Went in just to browse. Did not expect to come in and buy anything, but once I walked in I saw that they carried Canada Goose I knew my bank account was in trouble. They guy that helped us was really attentive and brought me a couple choices to choose from. After deciding on the style I had to decide between two colors and the guys there were honest about which color looked best. A totally unexpected gem! My husband and I were killing time pre-dinner with friends and never expected to do anything but walk in and out of Mildblend. The girls working there were friendly right off the bat, and couldn't have been cooler-not always the case in high end retail these days. After conversing about our mutual love for tattoos, Lee helped me find and try on some of the best jeans I've ever put on my body. I'm a terrible shopper for myself, and often order jeans online. I like what I like and stick with it, and she got me totally out of my comfort zone...and into two phenomenal pairs of salvage denim gems! They were so fantastic that we raced there after dinner so my husband could try some on...and he bought a great pair, and took advantage of the incredibly easy and talented on-site tailor for hemming. No one does a perfect raw hem that fast in store in the Midwest. It is such a great treat. I cannot say enough about this store. It's an incredible find and we will be back again and again. High quality denim and super knowledgeable staff. I've purchased 2 pairs of jeans there and have been completely satisfied with everything. A salesman spent close to an hour with me trying out different brands an sizes for my last pair. Now I have top notch jeans I'll wear for years and years. They also do repairs and alterations, again with the same attention to detail. If you are sick of buying cheap jeans that don't last and were made in sweat shops halfway across the world, check this store out.
