First off this place is the wrought iron, bullet proof glass, sticky floor, smell of despair, kind…read moreof grimy spot that yours truly can't resist stopping into just to see what lurks on the other side.
There is also an auto repair and used car lot literally a few feet away. So, after you buy a salvaged title car, or lemon at a horrendous price, feel free to come over to MK and console yourself with some cheap libations. More on that later.
The prices and selection are what you'd expect in these establishments, the guy behind the counter, he was cool, but direct and to the point. In seeing that he gets the usual sob story about this or that when a debit card is declined and the customer swears that there is indeed money in their account. How many of those weeping ghetto snowflake tales could you listen to day in and day out? So I can understand his being curt. Your lack of funds or cash is YOUR problem and NOT, I REPEAT, NOT his. I had to get that off of my chest.
He tells customers that beer, food, and liquor sales come first before lottery sales. He has signs at the registers saying so. There is a decent selection of beer and bottom shelf booze, and some top shelf stuff too. If I am in the area for a party, I would stop in to pick up my part of BYOB to a party even if it ain't a BYOB kind of party. Never show up to a party without a bottle, it's bad form.
Now to the good stuff. Yes this place is grimy and full of characters.
So while walking to my car, I notice one of the workers from that establishment is walking around with a pitbull off the chain. I'm not scared of dogs, but having a pitbull off the chain like that? Ummm I dunno, probably not a good business move if said pitbull (or any dog) bites someone. Then again that might be the draw for business around here.
Needless to say, the dog and I got along fine. Dunno if I'll be bringing my ride or the Ladyfriend's ride in for work though. Perhaps said pitbull caught a whiff of Leon's Liquor on my shoes and JUST KNEW that I belonged here.
And to my Dodger and Raider Nation brothers I saw in there, (your ink and hat were dead giveaways). You're the same types who pi$$, m0an, whine, and complain about being stereotyped by other fans or always being hassled by la juras, For starters, stop dragging the knuckles and have some damn respect for not only others, but yourselves too.
Definitely a 5 star establishment in my liquor store hall of fame. PS why is there a survey about a gender neutral bathroom? Does anyone really give a f*** about that in places like this? Or wifi while buying your Gin or Cisco?
