TL;DR: A big yet somewhat obscure Indian market with large Indian spice selection and yummy samosas. Thoughts: My friend told me that their samosas are probably the best in the Bay Area and I have to say they didn't disappoint! For 99 cents, you can a large delicious samosa; the outside is crispy and the fillings are flavorful and a bit spicy. We also got a box of baklavas and it was delicious too, although it's not made by the store.

Milan has way more ingredients for Indian food than I would ever know what to do with. I got a whole bunch of spicy stuff, beans, rice and some miracle powder (see below) today and it all came out to under $6. Booyeah. The staff is extremely helpful, perhaps too helpful at times as one of the staff kept on chasing after me to see what I wanted. I asked a girl working the counter how to cook Naan and she laughed at me and suggested that Naan is only made in India for holidays. Normally, they just eat a flatbreead called Chapati. We chatted for a bit, and she asked me if I am married - No - and suggested I marry an Indian girl if I wanted really good Indian food for the rest of my life. I'm not sure how the culture works, but I think she may have been hinting at something. Watch out Mari C.! But why did I come here in the first place you may wonder? I came here for one thing and one thing alone: Tavari Churna. It has changed my life. Why? Milan carries this powder called Tavari Churna and it is a remedy "useful for general weakness of ladies & gents." And those who know SuperNickman, would never associate him with "weakness." That is because I eat this stuff like it's eggs and with them. Goodbye general weakness, hello 10,000 kilo bench press!

Starting with an arresting blow-up of Italian movie star Monica Vitti behind the checkout, it's a visually pleasing emporium because it's not overcrowded with idiosyncratic products. The wine collection is particularly interesting with labels unknown to me. I've been tempted by the delectables in the Grab & Go section, but I've demurred for the sake of discretion. In fact, having almost no knowledge of any of these products, I only recently bought something here because I want to support them. I got a box of Rooibos tea and a jar of Hawaiian masala (Photo 10). I look forward to buying more in the future, though one thought I had was that this store would benefit from samples. On a previous visit, there was a bakery pop-up in front (Photo 8), and I think more of that activity could encourage more in-store traffic. It'll be interesting to see how this business evolves. On Tuesdays, tacos are $3 and fish tacos are $3.50 And they are effin GOOD. Jeebus they are good. I got the fish taco grilled for the first time yesterday. It was all I could eat. I'll be visiting for that more often. Even at full price ($5) that's a steal. IT WAS SO GOOD. They also have cheap, high quality meat. Which, in this economy, is a frikkin' god send. I go here for the meat a lot because I'm broke. And they are always so nice. I've never had any experience here where anyone was even approaching rude. Also, I am very shy about my bad spanish. But often, I'll try in Spanish and they will be patient with me about it. And I love them for that. They'll switch to English when they can tell I don't understand. (It's actually usually just me thinking. I think slow, lol.) Yeah. Lots of words, sorry. They have good meat. They have good tacos. They're nice.

I got an assortment of Turkish delight and some pistachio baklava ($2.99). The Turkish delight is sold by weight across all the varieties and goes for $16.99/lb. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and offered us a sample of one of the flavors to try which I thought was a nice gesture. Everything looked so good, so we picked a couple different pieces of Turkish delight to try. To my surprise, my favorite ended up being the saffron, though rose petal with pomegranate and sour cherry with pastachio were close seconds. I didn't like the coconut or the chocolate one that much, so reminder to myself to skip those next time. After picking up the dessert, I did a quick circle around the store to see what they had. It's not a big store but they manage to cram a lot of stuff into the limited space!

The market itself is a treasure trove: shelves filled with Middle Eastern dry goods, nuts, dried fruits, spices, blends, and condiments you can't find anywhere else. Kofta, shish kebab, falafel, sumac, garam masala -- it's all here. They also carry pita, lavash, labna, and other breads and yogurts that make cooking from scratch feel like heaven. Bonus points for the large assortments of delicious house made baklavas! Even without a full kitchen, the prepared foods are excellent. I ordered falafel, eggplant dip, hummus, and cucumber salad from the to‑go counter -- a mini feast for $26 that didn't disappoint. **Verdict:** Courteous service, respectful staff, and a fantastic selection. Whether you're cooking at home or grabbing a bite, this place is a gem. Highly recommended.

They have a modest but solid selection of Italian deli meats (Serrano ham, prosciutto, pancetta, etc), pasta, olive oil, vinegars, and a couple specialty jams (calabrian chile orange, etc) - basically all you'd need for a gourmet charcuterie board meal or snack. Last time I was here, picked ip a bottle of nicely aged balsamic vinegar from Italy, which has lasted me for a couple years. Today, decided to try one of their specialty Italian sandwiches with a shot of expresso on the side... and Mama Mia was the sandwich absolutely amazing! I highly recommend the Jamon Serrano & Manchego sandwich ($14.50). It comes with shaved ribbons of serrano ham, 1/5 inch thick slice of aged manchego cheese, a creamy spread of chevre goat cheese, chopped/marinated artichokes and arugula greens on a crusty/crunchy baguette (between half to a full foot long). I practically finished this within 10 minutes - it was so good! The expresso shot ($3.25) was also a good pairing for me. Loved the aroma, made from nicely dark roasted beans. Inside the venue there's shelves on the back wall, with Italian dry goods, oils, vinegars, jams, etc for sale. Seating indoors is about 5ish tables for 2 or more. Outside sidewalk has a couple tables too. Located on the corner of 9th & Washington St, mostly metered street parking in this area and a small hourly parking lot across the street.
