Starting with the positive. Had an eye surgery with Dr. Niraj Desai. By far, this gentleman is the best, could not ask for anything more, a true professional and a master at eye surgery and his craft. However, everything billing-related has made this experience the absolute worst experience. This may come off harsh, but the fact is Milan Eye Center is incompetent when it comes to billing, and they refuse to take any responsibility. They hire a 3rd party billing company overseas, so every time you call their office to discuss anything "billing-related," you are automatically transferred to their overseas contracted billing partner. We have spoken to the billing company over and over again, month after month, and we get the same run-around. Nothing ever gets resolved. They'll get back to us, they will call us back, but they never do. So we call them, then back and forth, we start all over again. It is exhausting. Milan Eye Center then sends another bill. We have been dealing with this for almost a year... Why in the world would you hire such an incompetent company to handle all your billing? This is a multimillion-dollar eyecare practice. We knew this surgery would happen, and switched insurance plans as the new plan had a specific flat in-network $1,000 copay for each eye for Cataract Surgery. The total surgery should have cost $2,000, plus the additional co-payments for other doctor visits/eval pre- and post-surgery. Guess what? Milan Eye Center never billed UHC. At the last moment, we were forced into taking out a $5,000 loan from CareCredit to pay for the Cataract Surgery. To make matters worse, after the surgery, Milan Eye Center billing third party started sending bills for $3,900 for the same surgery. First of all. Milan Eye Center will NOT perform any surgery until the costs are all paid off in full, meaning you cannot enter the surgery room, hence why we had to take out the $5,000 loan. So a surgery that should have cost $2,000 with insurance ended up costing $5,000 + now they want another $3,900. Cataract Surgery is not $8,900, including insurance; the total to them should be $10,900? After the surgery, we spoke with the insurance. Milan Eye Center never filed it through them, even though they are in-network. After a year, we finally paid off the $5,000 loan we should have never had to taken out... and now they still want $3,900... Doctor Charles Ficco is an excellent doctor and I have been seeing him for my optical care for many years. I would not consider changing doctors. The staff and technicians are all very friendly, helpful, and excellent in their jobs. Their new office facility (several years old now) is large and uncrowded. Wait times are minimal every time I visit, which is nice, they seem to value their patients time and while being busy, they do not overbook like many other providers. My only complaint that keeps me from rating 5 stars is the billing department. I have a group policy that is primary along with a secondary policy that covers my co insurance and Co pays in full but the billing team wants payment up front and there is no way to contact anyone who is a decision maker to look at my situation. Sadly, policy replaces critical thinking in this area of their business. read more

On December 9, 2024, I had a corrective lens implant after cataract removal for the first eye. After carefully following pre op instructions, and after 24 hours, I had no pain or side effects. My vision was corrected with great clarity and colors were robust and bright, especially white. The staff was professional and efficient . I felt no pain the following morning (never needed tylenol) and barely remembered the procedure. During my annual eye exam, my optometrist noticed growing cataracts in both my eyes and highly recommended I see Dr. Desai to help take care of that. I cannot begin to tell you how absolutely delighted I am that I was sent to Milan Eye Center and Dr. Desai! There are so many amazing areas of this location and will do my best to break them down. The front desk team: what a wonderfully warm, welcoming group of ladies they have here! They have always been wonderful with appointment scheduling, checking me in for my appointments, and and answering all my questions. They are very quick but don't make you feel rushed. The waiting area is also super comfy and very well lit. The nursing staff: Phe-nom-i-nal! The nursing assistants who help with all the vision tests are excellent at what they do and very easy to work with. As I use a mobility scooter, they always made sure that I didn't feel like a burden and made sure I could easily get to the machines or exam chairs. They were always efficient in gathering information and taking me through all the vision tests needed. The surgery center nurses are also incredible! They clearly have a passion for what they do, and cared greatly for my during my cataract surgery. Super friendly team without a doubt! The billing team: I had the joy of working with Julie who was able to fit me in for a same day appointment after I had met with Dr. Desai to discuss my surgery options. She explained everything thoroughly and I never felt like I didn't understand what was going on. She made herself available for any questions I had and truly went out of her way to help me with some billing nuances before my surgery. There should be more Julies in this world! Last but certainly not least, Dr. Desai. When I came to him, I knew I needed cataract surgery. What I didn't know is that I had a freckle in one of my eyes that he didn't feel was cancer but wanted to make very sure it wasn't. No other doctor had ever mentioned the freckle to me before. Fortunately he referred me to an amazing specialist and I was cleared for surgery. Dr. Desai talked me through my options for lenses, and answered all my goofy questions. One of my favorite things about Dr. Desai is his bedside manner as he answered everything (I never felt dumb for asking anything), and he has a great, calming sense of humor which was very helpful when surgery day arrived. My cataract surgery was completed yesterday. I was very nervous when I arrived, but a little bit of sedation helped that. I was in and out of the surgery room within about 15-20 minutes and I couldn't believe what I was literally seeing! Everything was SO vibrant! I am now 24 hours out from my surgery and still cannot believe how vibrant and crisp everything is now. I could not possibly be more thrilled to have trusted my eye to Dr. Desai and his team. Went for a YAG procedure with Dr. Desai. The receptionist, a middle aged lady with light coloured hair, was about as welcoming as a snake. No smile, no hello, took 5-6 min to check in one patient, so there was a queue of 3-4 patients always waiting. I have encountered this lady before, and always with the same sour attitude. Perhaps she needs a job behind the scenes! As it was 0710, she was the only one there. Not a good person to have at the front desk. The staff in surgery was much better. Friendly, welcoming and efficient in their duties. Quickly got patients in and out for this minour and quick procedure. When I go back next week for a follow up, perhaps this receptionist will have the day off! read more

The doctor I was seeing (admitted he didn't understand why I was having blurred vision) quit going to the Canton office, and I was told that I needed to go to the Marietta office. I told them that was not convenient for me and that I would like to be assigned to another doctor. They told me that was not possible. What kind of professional medical facility would rather lose a patient than resign them to a different doctor? The change in location isn't convenient, and i am not happy with my current doctor. I had a cataract removed and a stent placed in my left eye. Everything was handled so professionally. From the evaluation with the surgeon to the ladies on the phones they are all great. Dr. Samir Vira did my surgery. He had done my husband's a few years ago and was so pleased he wanted me to also have Dr.Vira perform mine. The surgery scheduler was amazing and got both surgeries quickly booked as well as the follow up visits for each. She went over all of the follow up care and provided copies of all instructions. It has been 2 days, I can see an amazing difference already and am looking forward to having the other eye operated on in a few weeks. I see doctors at Milan Eye Care for all of my eye care. Let me start by saying Milan Eye Center is a very attractive boutique eye surgery facility. Everyone I came in contact with was very nice and professional. I have no doubt they would do an excellent job with any eye surgery required. Unfortunately, my overall experience was less than satisfactory. After noticing some minor signs of cataracts for a couple years and experiencing PVD events in both eyes, my vision was not what it used to be. My optometrist at Caris Eye Center recommended I visit Milan Eye Center to be evaluated for cataract surgery (his friend is a doctor there). I made an appointment and was seen by Dr. Patel. He hesitantly told me cataract surgery should help, so I scheduled an appointment. Funny, they won't tell you how much the surgery will cost until you schedule an appointment. That is also when I found out they don't take my insurance (Anthem)- but they are quick to tell you they only charge insurance prices (whatever that means). I'm sure their pricing does not take into account higher deductibles for non-network providers or higher non-network provider copays. Their account department apparently needs help because I never saw a bill for almost a year due to the office mailing them to the wrong address (even though they had my correct address on file). I was starting to wonder if cataract surgery was really going to help my vision given the mess left by the PVD events, so I made an appointment with another optometrist for a second opinion. He told me that my cataracts were only a 1 out of 10 in my right eye and a 3 out of 10 in my left eye. He also told me to wait until I was 65 before getting surgery to let Medicare help. Needless to say, I cancelled my surgery and am looking of a new optometrist. Bottom line - always get a second opinion before major surgery, especially when the parties involved have a financial stake in you getting the procedure. I might be out $500 for the evaluation, but not $10,000 for eye surgery I did not need (yet). read more

I was so impressed with Dr. Milan Patel and his entire staff. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. Dr. Patel removed a cataract in my left eye this week and I'll have the right eye fixed next week. I wasn't sure which procedure was right for me and Dr. Patel offered to explain everything over the phone to my husband. He is very patient answering my millions of questions and is very down to earth and kind. Sometimes there is a little wait to see the doctor, but when it was my turn, I never felt rushed or hurried.
