It was recommended by the owner of Hotel Della Marina. It was fairly crowded when we arrived for a 7:30 reservations. I started with the tuna tartare which I had many times in the States but it came with a twist, ginger. It work well too!!! Then the pasta and gnocchi (shared). They both had wonderful flavors and the gnocchi were so soft and delicate. The best was the sea bass baked in salt. They served it table side which was a show stopper to watch. Absolute fantastic! We had the sampler antiposto which brought a number of wonderful tastes of Monterosso. Then came the ravioli and spaghettini with anchovies. We shared them and found them both to be fresh and flavorful. The service was great and the lemoncello was a nice finish. read more

Some of the 'tableside preparation' stuff seems old-fashioned or gimmicky. but the service is pretty good here. The fish (branzino) with potato and olives was outstanding. All ingredients seemed fresh and in-season. Price was on the expensive side, as others have mentioned. Overall we had a good experience though. read more

3 couples that are friends of ours recommended this restaurant, as they were here a week ago. Sadly to say our experience was not as glorious. Our waiter was not gracious, or happy at all we were there. It took over 45 minutes to receive our food. Everyone raves about the final lemoncello and treat they give you. We got nothing. Not that it was a deal breaker, but you feel slighted since they give that to everyone else. My Mediterranean Sea Bass had great potatoes with it and the fish was delicious however the black olives served with the fish should of had their pits removed first. read more

My favorite place to eat in Monterosso. The waitstaff were extremely attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The gnocchi with pesto was seriously the best pesto dish I've ever had, as well as, the duck was incredible. Don't miss out on the tiramisu either. read more

Hands down this is the best meal we have experienced in Italy! ...and we found it in the little seaside town of Monterosso after traveling through Milan, Venice, and Florence. So much of our experience has been the same repeat menu all prepared in virtually the same way, stressing freshness which is great but bland, boring and repetitive. We quest for the zest! We like flavorful, unique food. Our entire group was a little tired of the routine antipasta, primo piatto, secondo piatto...etc etc. Miky brings creativity and flair to all the dishes we ordered. The Michelin star(s) are deserved. The room and staff are upscale and experienced, especially comped to the local competition. Great service with great attitude. Our order: Appetizers: Tuna tartare: fresh, avocado and ginger comes to Italia! Parmesan flan: Miky brings it. Main dishes: Sea Bass Ravioli: Flaming pizza dough covering over the pasta - a first for us -seriously yummy for the bread lover. Seared tuna steak: Coated in a pistachio crust. Cooked to a perfect temperature. Great combo with sour cream, tiny onions and red bell pepper. Desserts: Chocolate souffle: Incredibly rich melted chocolate with a chocolate cake crust. Very powerful flavor. Bam for chocolate lovers. Creme brule: Vanilla bean and cinnamon. Wonderful. Chocolate mousse: Less rich than the chocolate souffle. Tiramisu: Great execution of the classic. Unsure why I can't give them place a negative star. Let me start off with this, NEVER GOT OUR FOOD LET ALONE STEP INSIDE BECAUSE SOME OLD ITALIAN LADY YELLED AT US AND THREATENED TO CALL THE COPS. We kindly asked if we could sit down and the owner got VERY angry. They even reprimanded my son's bamboo stick. Do yourself a favor and eat here. We made a reservation here on the recommendation of a friend, and we are so glad that we did. First of all, it was completely booked for every night that we were in town (we tried to go back a second time), and we can completely understand why. The food is amazing, the view from the patio is perfect, and the service is outstanding. We had a bottle of rosé, an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert and they were all perfect. This restaurant is a bit on the fancy side and thus, a little more expensive, but it was one of the best meals we had on our trip - so well worth it. We were really looking forward to having dinner at Miky: we had read really great reviews online, but had a very disappointing experience. The food was exceptional and there was an excellent range of wines. However, we were seated by a large and loud table and our service experience suffered. We made multiple requests for water, dessert menus and the bill, which were not delivered: staff seemed overwhelmed and focused only on the large party in our space, who were noisy and oblivious to other diners. Towards the end of our meal, staff opened a door near us to accommodate the party: mosquitoes flooded the space to end our sub-par dining experience. The restaurant needs to think about and ensure that everyone's experience is equally valued, regardless of party size and related demands. The food was excellent but an overall disappointing experience. We won't be returning. read more

We were looking forward to having dinner here after reading some reviewers say that it was the best meal they had in Italy. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to that. We had a reservation for a table inside but they did not have one for us. So, they asked if we could sit outside on the side of the restaurant where no one was sitting. We said it was ok, but were hoping we wouldn't be neglected. Unfortunately we were. We ordered our food and the first course came and it was fantastic. The food was very hot and flavorful. Then it went downhill. The service slowed significantly. When the 2nd course finally arrived, an hour after the first course, it was lukewarm. The first course was so fantastic that this was a serious let-down. We were made to feel as though it was our fault for the 2nd course not being warm because we let it sit when in actuality we were waiting for our waiter to return to let him know the food was lukewarm. We told them how disappointed we were so they re-fired our courses, but they were not the same. In the end, the restaurant tried to make it up to us (Sara and her mother were very nice) but we still feel like we have to say that this was definitely not the best meal we had in Italy. We had far better meals at other seafood restaurants in the old part of Monterosso for half the price. We had very high expectations about this restaurant from what we read in previous reviews. If we had gone there not reading the previous reviews we probably would have said...."OK that was an ok meal." We then wouldn't have said much about it to our friends. But now, we probably will based on the experience we had and it won't be a good review to our friends. Sorry. read more

In montesrosso, amidst all of a lot of the touristy chaos was this gem, rubbing shoulders with the best meal I have ever had. Definitely the best pasta I have ever had. Absolutely blown away. It started with an appetizer which was 4 courses, the star of that show was a purée of peas seasoned with cuttlefish ink and with cuttlefish inside, topped with a foam of local potato. I will be honest, because this appetizer came as 4 courses we thought that after the first course that's all it was so we ordered a second appetizer of raw seafood crudo which could have rivaled any top tier sashimi with a sweet shrimp to die for. After we ate the first pasta, it was so good I got a little emotional, teary eyed, maybe it was the wine. The head chefs wife came over and asked me if I was ok, my girlfriend told them, "he gets emotional with really good food". Good is an understatement for this place. She laughed and gave me a hug. Then they brought us a lemon sorbet between the pasta and the meat and fish dishes (a beautiful local organic duck and this local fish whose name defined means the prince of the sea). Then desert that I can only describe as transcendent. It tasted like a pistachio pot de creme which then had a thin layer of meringue which was torched with small crumbs of roasted pistachio. I can't imagine stepping foot in Italy without visiting this place again. read more

Phenomenal lunch. A highlight of our trip (and we travel to EAT!) The pizza crust pasta cooking method is so interesting to see. They do a lot of the final food and fish prep table size, which was very fun. We had the tuna tartar and gnocchi with pesto (pesto is a local specialty) and were so happy with it. They also offer Italian craft beers, which was a great treat after a long hike where wine just wouldn't cut it. Straight to the points... The food is fresh and scrumptious. Must try their fresh homemade ravioli with shrimp ragu, and a pistachios cream desert. Also, to our surprise that they served biscotti with vinsanto. We were even more impressed with their services, top notches. If you want bad and rude customer service with mediocre food, you've come to the right place. We were in Italy for 2 months and this was our worst meal, hands down (and yet most expensive). Our hotel concierge tried to warn us not to go to this place as he's heard nothing good about it. Alas, we should have listened. It took us 30 minutes to get the waitress' attention to place our order. Why you may ask? Well, she was actually sitting down directly in front of us at an Italian speaking table and ignoring her other tables as she was laughing and carrying on with them. Ok, whatever, we are on Italy time. Then she acted like she was doing US a favor by taking our order. Unfortunately things kept getting worse from there. It took us over 3 hours to get 2 courses! The wait staff was paying much more attention to the Italian speaking customers and ignoring the English speakers. We were sitting between a couple from England and Australia and they had the same issues. Once we finally got our food, it was nothing special. We waited 3 hours for this? We've had meals 10x better at half the price in Italy. The tuna 3-way was completely overlooked and chewy. We also got a whole fish. The waitress did a poor job of deboning it. After all, she had to get back to carrying on with the Italian tables. The chef, Miky, came out at the end of the evening and personally stopped by all the tables that were Italian speakers. He ignored us and the other 2 English speaking tables. In fact, he gave us a disapproving look. We had to ask 3 times for our check, which came 25 minutes later. The waitress then lectured us about being patient. Waiting 25 minutes for a check? We could have walked out without paying. When was the last time a waitress lectured a customer? As a physician, I don't need a waitress lecturing me on patience. Excuse us for asking you to do your job. It took her so long because she was back to sitting and drinking champagne at a table of Italians. In short, do yourself a favor and head to the old town of Monterosso for a much better meal at 1/2 the price. Tourism here is their lifeblood, so if you don't like tourists, you certainly shouldn't be waiting on them. Overrated, poor quality food, horrific service. read more

I don't understand the rage. Terrible service. Waited an hour to get 2 entrees with two sides. Couple who sat down at the table next to us ordered their food 40 minutes later than us and got their food at the same time as us??? Table was rickety, off balance, slanted- a big annoyance. Cover charge at 4 euros per person is a rip off for cruddy service. Flavorless bread. Made me miss France so much. At some point the server who wheeled in the neighboring table's wine left the cart between our two tables creating this awkward bridge where it seemed like we were one table of strangers dining with each other. I had to tell the server to remove the cart. It wasn't done for 5 awkward minutes because the server didn't think to remove it! Once the entrees arrived they forgot the side salad which they brought out to us near the end like it was dessert or something. Driest side salad you can possibly think of with minimal dressing. Should have been labeled "side of raw vegetables" My husband enjoyed his entree and we both loved the chocolate soufflé; however at compulsory 4 euros cover charge per person, wasting our time, and terrible service I would skip this place. read more
