One of our tall palms was struck by lightning. Hoping against hope that it'd come back, finally decided to just have it cut down. Called Mikey's Tree Service. Spoke to Mikey who said he'd get out to look at, what I called a big stick in the yard. Surprised he arrived at house within a couple of hours, just as promised. Gave a reasonable estimate. It fact it was lower than what all the 'armchair quarterbacks' said it would cost. So agreed to hire them. Problem was, other than saying he'd be back in a few days with paperwork, he never gave a definite date to start work. Problem solved, surprised and elated when Brad called to say they could be out in an 1-1/2 hour to do the job a couple of days later. Good to his word, they were there to do the job and for the agreed upon price. No additional or upcharges. Best of all, they cleaned up the pieces of tree and bark that littered the yard and street. The yard looks do empty without my tree but feel much better that it's gone and won't one day, or during the next storm, fall on our house or one our neighbor's . I'm writing this review based on my personal experience working for Mikey's Tree Service. During my time there, I felt overworked, underpaid, and mistreated. I was asked on numerous occasions to stay late and work additional hours, and I experienced situations where I believe I was not properly compensated for the time I worked. I also personally experienced being shorted money on more than one occasion. There were also ongoing problems with equipment and maintenance. Employees would report repairs and problems that needed attention, but many times those issues were not addressed until the equipment eventually broke down. Afterward, the employees could be blamed for poor maintenance even though the problems had already been reported. I also witnessed jobs where employees were sent to collect payments from customers, including situations where the work was not yet completely finished. There were occasions afterward when we were sent back to customers to collect additional money, only for it to turn out that the customer had already paid what was owed. During the time I worked there, I personally saw a large number of employees come and go. I saw more than 20 people hired and subsequently leave or be fired. The explanation was often that employees had an attitude or that people weren't willing to work anymore. After seeing the same situation happen repeatedly with employee after employee, I came to a very different conclusion based on my own experience. In my experience, jobs were sometimes underbid, and then the employees were expected to work extremely hard and stay late to get the job completed. I felt that the pressure created by those situations was placed on the employees rather than being addressed through better planning, pricing, staffing, or investment in the business. I am not writing this review because of one bad day or one disagreement. I am writing it because of a pattern of experiences that I personally witnessed and experienced while working there. I believe employees deserve to be paid properly, treated with respect, provided with properly maintained equipment, and given reasonable expectations. Customers also deserve clear communication, fair treatment, and work handled professionally. Based on my personal experience working for Mikey's Tree Service, I would not recommend the company as an employer, and I personally would not hire the company to perform tree work for me. I called for an estimate and agreed to the price for the removal of 6 cabbage palms. Prior to their arrival I received an e-mail with the service date and instructions that the removal of the grindings should be requested. When the crew arrived I told the supervisor that I was requesting that the grindings be removed. After the first palm was removed, he showed me that he had removed the stump. I was satisfied and went in the house.When I came out the crew was leaving and the grindings were not removed. I took care of it myself and called the owner the next day. It was only the next day when I tried putting sod plugs I saw that the stumps of 4 of the stumps had not been removed. We had a tree that needed trimming and set an appointment time and date with Mikey, but he neither called to to cancel or show up.

Had a very tall pine in the back yard that was split near the bottom & in danger of hitting our pool cage. Mikey's crew was on the job the next day since he knew how upset I was about the possibility of it falling. He gave us a fair price, but we called back and told him to take some smaller dead/dying trees as well. Professional crew were terrific, did everything we wanted and cleaned up all the mess. While the prices of the services provided were reasonable, an error in payment was made on our behalf. Instead of issuing a refund for the error (I have text messages to prove the discrepancy of costs), the paper receipt was altered to be $100 more than the original cost. When we attempted to call to discuss, the individual told us that he had to talk to his manager and, of course, no one ever got back to us. Additionally, the man who collected my payment was very unprofessional. Rang my bell to collect payment while he was on the phone, and when I came out to pay him he spent 5 minutes on the phone ignoring me as I stood there. He was talking to someone on the phone completely unrelated to business (sounded to me like he was trying to locate a bartender from the previous night that he hit it off with). It was weird and uncomfortable. I cannot help but feel taken advantage of as I was home without my husband, who had taken care of all of the communication and received the verbal estimate of costs of services without me, but was unable to be home at time of service due to work. I have used them twice now and been incredibly impressed both time. One time for cleaning up a few trees that needed to be seriously reduced to protect the roof. The second time for a tree that had fallen during Debby. The tree was across the property line and laying on a shed. The got us in immediately and removed the tree with remarkable skill. Customer service was outstanding and Mike had to deal with a less than pleasant neighbor. Both times, I was amazed by their skill and knowledge. They worked with me on affordability too. Apparently I was unlucky with my experience since I have seen rave reviews for this company. I called Mikey's, thinking it was a different company that had been recommended, and the next day Mikey was here to provide me with a quote for removing a tree and trimming one of my palms. When I asked how much the trimming would cost I was told "$25.00" which seemed reasonable -- only a few dead fronds. The following day when I arrived home, the tree was gone and there were huge ruts in my newly sodded lawn where the truck had backed up to get the tree. There was no previous call to let me know of their arrival. The palm tree was not trimmed. I called Mikey and told him what happened. He came to the house for his check -- I paid him the full amount in spite of the palm not being trimmed because he assured me that "someone" would be back the next time in the area. I asked about the lawn and he told me if someone had been home, that probably would not have happened. Duh! I sent him several emails, called numerous times, and even mailed a letter requesting either my $25.00 back or the tree trimming. I received neither, nor any compensation for the lawn damage. Mikey's Tree Service did a great job for us cutting down trees after Hurricane Ida in Houma, La. Very hard working, professional and friendly. The price was very reasonable. The crew was very professional. They were constantly in motion. They were here for 3 hours, asked questions when necessary. I feel the clean up could have been a bit better. There are rusty scrapes in my driveway and many small branches, a bit bigger than twigs all over my lawn. I understand that you cannot pickup everything. I would use this company again. read more

I had a tree break in half at 1 am and could not do the work my self. I called Mikey's tree service and they came out the next day (Sunday) and gave me a quote and the next day they came to my home cut the tree that broke and cleaned up and job was done, this was the 2nd time they came to do a job for me and I would recommend Mikey's to any one. read more

I was very disappointed with the service from Mikey's. I had used their services twice in the past and they did good work. When they performed their latest service however, they cut down a small tree that I did not want removed, and they did not touch 2 trees I requested to be cut down and removed. When I called back and explained this, I was told they would be back the next day to complete the job. Another employee called me back and said they would be back in a couple days, but no one came back or called. I won't use their services in the future. read more
