Problem was, other than saying he'd be back in a few days with paperwork, he never gave a definite date to start work. Problem solved, surprised and elated when Brad called to say they could be out in an 1-1/2 hour to do the job a couple of days later. Good to his word, they were there to do the job and for the agreed upon price. No additional or upcharges. Best of all, they cleaned up the pieces of tree and bark that littered the yard and street. The yard looks do empty without my tree but feel much better that it's gone and won't one day, or during the next storm, fall on our house or one our neighbor's . I was asked on numerous occasions to stay late and work additional hours, and I experienced situations where I believe I was not properly compensated for the time I worked. I also personally experienced being shorted money on more than one occasion. There were also ongoing problems with equipment and maintenance. Employees would report repairs and problems that needed attention, but many times those issues were not addressed until the equipment eventually broke down. Afterward, the employees could be blamed for poor maintenance even though the problems had already been reported. I also witnessed jobs where employees were sent to collect payments from customers, including situations where the work was not yet completely finished. There were occasions afterward when we were sent back to customers to collect additional money, only for it to turn out that the customer had already paid what was owed. During the time I worked there, I personally saw a large number of employees come and go. I saw more than 20 people hired and subsequently leave or be fired. The explanation was often that employees had an attitude or that people weren't willing to work anymore. After seeing the same situation happen repeatedly with employee after employee, I came to a very different conclusion based on my own experience. In my experience, jobs were sometimes underbid, and then the employees were expected to work extremely hard and stay late to get the job completed. I felt that the pressure created by those situations was placed on the employees rather than being addressed through better planning, pricing, staffing, or investment in the business. I am not writing this review because of one bad day or one disagreement. I am writing it because of a pattern of experiences that I personally witnessed and experienced while working there. I believe employees deserve to be paid properly, treated with respect, provided with properly maintained equipment, and given reasonable expectations. Customers also deserve clear communication, fair treatment, and work handled professionally. Based on my personal experience working for Mikey's Tree Service, I would not recommend the company as an employer, and I personally would not hire the company to perform tree work for me. This is my honest account of what I experienced while working there.
