If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I'm a 30 year career musician who is in town for a job this weekend and caught an Uber over from my hotel to check some stuff out. Upon entering the store and asking if it was okay to pick up a couple of guitars; I was told by the owner "Yeah sure but not too many please. We try to keep good strings on them". I assured him I was a pro and would wipe the strings off afterwards. 30 seconds later as I was browsing some electrics, he suddenly looks up at me and his one other employee and decides that they need to lock up and go to lunch in that EXACT moment. So there I am ready to potentially make a deal, and instead I get kicked out of the store and left outside in a rainstorm. Literally one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Don't go here unless you want to get treated rudely and end up disappointed. read more

Never been there that I didn't feel welcome. Great discounts on strings , lead cords , etc. Staff very helpful , even to us amateurs.

Mikes Music sells mostly guitars and related accessories. The staff is helpful and they made the experience of buying a guitar less intimidating for a total newb like me. The guitar I brought was 50% off and it seems like everything else I've purchased ended being cheaper than the sticker price when it came time to cash out. They also do repairs, which is good for those times you feel like imitating Hendrix. I had them put a pickup on my Martin acoustic and they did fabulous work. Highly recommended! read more

Things must have changed drastically since the first review in 2008. I felt like it was a inconvenience for me to be in the store. I just recently moved here from Augusta and collect vintage guitars. Made no reference to my collecting when I was in the store and when I walked up to the counter he had an attitude because ringing up my guitar strap and the amp I bought was taking him away from the laptop. I noticed an old 70's Ibanez he had hanging up and he told me it was to expensive for me. I asked what he wanted and he grunted and said 799.00. Not a bad price. I am an experienced musician and was in need of some new Violin strings and a pack of guitar strings for my husband. I went in here simply because it was close by. The owner of the shop was awkward and the rest of the staff in there were sitting around and looking at me as though I had intruded into a sacred place. The owner of the shop was more interested in talking to everyone else about a family of possums that were in his house rather than help me. Finally, I got his attention and stated that I needed a set of violin strings. He asked me what kind, and honestly, I didn't know what brands he sold being that ALL of the strings were behind the counter where I couldn't personally look through them. I asked him what brands he hand and when he listed off one brand that I knew (and knew it wasn't going to be super expensive) I stated that I would take a pack of the Prelude's by D'Addario. After placing the bag on the counter he attempted to ring me up and tell me more about the opossum issue when I had to remind him that I needed a pack of guitar strings. He acted as though I was taking up his time and keeping him from finishing his story. As he was ringing me up, he asked if I knew the difference between the violin strings in the set. Hello, violinist here. I looked at the price and about fell to the floor. He charged me $37 for a pack of strings that normally cost about $16-$18 at other stores and online. If it wasn't for the pure need I would not have bought them. The guitar strings were also much more than they are elsewhere too. I told my husband the price of everything and we both agreed to not go back because of how overpriced everything is there. Today I started to restring my violin and noticed that I did not have a full set of strings. In fact, he sold me a set of A strings! Another thing that bothered me is that the strings were not in their original packaging. He took them out of the original packaging and placed them in a Ziploc bag with a tag that looked like it came off of a new violin! I am upset about this and will not be stepping a toe in that store ever again. Mikes is too expensive and too much of a ripoff. The whole store and staff are a bit shady in my opinion. read more

Went there to buy a trumpet. I have rented for years but finally decided to go looking for one. The man seemed very irritated that I came in. I asked if I could see certain ones, instead he placed the 3 cheapest ones in front of me. He told me he didn't think the more expensive ones would interest me. I have rented a Bach Stradivarius for years, so to judge me was absolutely absurd. I will never step foot in there again. read more

The owner is beyond RUDE! My husband and I went to look at a particular guitar he was interested in buying. They did not have the one in stock that he wanted but had one of the new designs. He picked it up to look at it after about 15 seconds put it back down. I also looked at a tiny pink guitar that I thought about buying my daughter. We were walking around looking at other instruments (I want to add that my husband was not playing them and there are no amps for you to hook into anyway). My husband picked up an acoustic guitar and the owner walks by (in front of a customer) and said "Don't come in here and start picking up all my stuff". We were in shock and for a moment I thought I heard him wrong. He then went on to make a comment about he could look at stuff but not come in and try to throw a party. I swear part of me thought he was losing it because the comments he said made no sense. I sear as we were walking out he made some comment that ended with "make my day". Seriously?...What the hell? What really angered me is that we have done business here several times but never again. I won't step foot in there again and I don't see how he will continue to thrive if this is how he treats his customers. I am not sure what happened to cause him to act this way but there is no excuse for him to talk to people this way. read more

during the month of Feb 2011 if you buy a line 6 iv 75 you receive a free pedal from line 6, well i bought 2 combo amps at a cost of $500. turns out they didn't have the boxes with the UPC i needed for the rebate, after several attempts at getting it, the owner mike became very obscene and even swore several times in the presence of my son who is only 5, so needless to say i contacted line 6 and waiting the outcome, this guy should not be in business, if your going to get that nasty in front of a child what kind of man are you, and just so we are clear, i was never rude to this guy at any time, in any manner, i'm sickened to think of how he treats his family at home! i wish i put my money into musicians friend! read more
