I would highly recommend taking the three part Macro Photography workshop at Mike's Camera at Park Meadows; especially with Joe Klocek. Joe is the best. He has a tremendous amount of knowledge and loves working with you in the Field. You can tell he has an overall passion for Photography. Took a 3 part macro class with Joe and Scott. 1st class was informational with lots of good information. 2nd was a field trip to Denver Botanic garden. Was able to put some of that info to use and got some very good shots. Was in Scott's group, he had time for questions and some very good suggestions on where and what to look for there. I dropped off 5 rolls of film to this store on Saturday, May 11, 2019. We went to check on the film and was told that their photo lab employee took a few days off, their orders were behind and wouldn't be ready until after the weekend. I was told that only the Boulder store now has the film lab. Does that mean there is only ONE person that runs it. Poor management if that is the case. I was very disappointed. Most of the rolls should have been back by May 14th or 15th. read more

Neutral experience. Went there a couple times; the service representatives were responsive but not necessarily warm. The store location is convenient and the store itself is big. It has a very right look on the inside for a camera/photography store. Lots and lots of stuff on display. Great variety on accessories and camera. I also like how the store is neatly organized. On two consecutive attempts to have film developed, they first neglected to ever send me scanned copies of my photos or contact me in any way to let me know the job was done. And the second time, they sent me copies of the previous photos, followed by copies of a stranger's photos. When I told them that still wasn't right, it was determined that they simply lost my film, though they had no trouble charging my credit card anyways. Both times I had to reach out after hearing nothing for weeks. I can't believe the amount of incompetence at a business that seems to get generally high ratings. read more

I don't have too much of a problem with Mike's Camera. They've got some pretty sweet photo gear and a better selection than Wolf Camera. The prices are higher than what you'd pay online, but that's just the way it goes when you shop for this kind of stuff at a brick-and-mortar store. My gripe with this location is that every single time I've gone in there I've been ignored. And, it's not always just that I'm ignored, it's almost like I'm not good enough to be in there. I'm not sure if I've ever been asked if I have any questions or need help unless I'm standing at the counter looking at the lenses and bodies. Sorry, Mike's Camera. I love to support local business, but if you're not going to help me I'm not going to help you. read more

Yes things tend to be more expensive in a store as apposed to online. Here are 2 reasons why I love being able to go into a store: The staff at Mike's lets me bring my camera in and try out lenses before I buy. Sure I could buy it online after I find the one I like, but they let me know about sales and I got an amazing 70-200 lens for an unbeatable price. Also, Doug just saved me. I for the life of me couldn't find what was causing a weird shadow image in my pictures. I cleaned my lens looked at the sensor, and couldn't figure it out. He opened a part of my camera I didn't know opened and found my dog's hair. Cleaned it out and charged me a whopping zero dollars. Thanks Doug! Simply I prefer going to stores, especially when the staff is awesome. read more

I have purchased my last three cameras from Mike's Camera by the Park Meadows Mall. The first one I had for seven years until it had a run-in with a bag of instant oatmeal in a packed bag. The other was perfect, but was stolen. So, six months later I had to buy a new one. I walked in and told them what I loved about my most recent purchase (the model was in their system thankfully) and they upgraded me for the same amount as I paid six months ago. I love my new Olympus Stylus 9000. i was in a huge hurry as I was leaving from Mike's Camera to go home and pack for my vacation. Dave Dunda helped me in under 30 minutes and actually listened to me. He got me set up with everything I needed and gave me a few tips in regards to my camera. He was a great! In the end, I got great pictures of my little sister's college graduation and family photos that will last a life time! read more

Went here after getting my first camera. I've been excited since getting it and been doing a lot of reading online trying to learn as much as I can. But going here just left me feeling like maybe I shouldn't be in this hobby (I know, it sounds dramatic but the feeling sucks). So I had researched what I wanted online (tripod and other small accessories). I was expecting to pay a little more being that's a brick & mortar store. But they had such a small selection and what little they did have seemed to be geared towards the very high-end. While I was looking for something more in the middle since I'm new to this still. But the worse part of this whole visit is that I went in and was there for 20mins looking through all their tripods and looking at the differences myself. And all while being completely ignored by the staff! Twice I even went to ask for help and was passed by a staff member on their way to greet someone else coming into the store that I presume looked like they would probably be spending more money. It was like something out of a bad movie! No exaggeration. This rarely happens to me I must admit but it's a pretty $hitty feeling when it does. Left me feeling like crap for the rest of the evening after being so excited about the whole new hobby. I'll try another store because it's nice to be able look at things hands on, but will certainly not be going back here. I don't understand why this is even is problem. It's something that directly costs the store lots of sales and should be easy to address through training. After seeing the other reviews of people being ignored I know it's not just me but a problem with the staff here. I'm sorry but if this is how people are treated then I'm glad the store is being called out for it. Thx read more

Just finished my first class with Mike's Camera and it won't be my last... The Denver Zoo Wildlife Photography class was informative and extremely fun! The instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Doug was the instructor in my group at the zoo and was very kind and patient! I finished the class with a lot of great wildlife photos and had a great time spending the day at the zoo. I am looking forward to taking more classes from them in the future!! read more

I went to Mike's with the guidance of a Google search and no expectations and having never owned anything other than point-and-shoot cameras. A few weeks later after expert guidance from Joe and a class designed specifically for my camera brand, I have officially taken up photography. I would not have considered spending the time or money if it weren't for Mike's camera, specifically Joe, who is an expert from my perspective and is happy to share his knowledge to engage all generations of photogs. In addition, I am a heavy Amazon user and strongly considered purchasing a camera from there. Mikes offers a lot of the same products for the same, or matched, prices. I don't have any camera stores to compare service to, but see no reason to go anywhere else with the expertise and professionalism displayed at Mike's. read more

I ordered one 11x14 print online for store pay and pick up. When I went in to pay, my card was declined. In spite of pulling up my bank account on my phone and being willing to show the associate that had more then enough money to pay for the $10 print, I was told it was store policy to not reswipe a card that had declined. Unfortunately, I didn't have cash or another card with me, so I left without my print and won't be returning for it. The associate was flat out unhelpful, not even rude, just unhelpful and seemed as though he could care less about the customers in general. Cards decline for all sorts of reasons, including network issues, not just because there isn't enough money in the account. Businesses don't get charged a fee when a card declines, so why have a policy that not only punishes the customer for a declined card, but also potentially leaves the business with a product that they won't get paid for. I will be finding a different print shop to give my business to. read more

My Dad purchased a Sony SLT A35 for my birthday, went in for my orientation with Marc, he was great! Marc made me very comfortable using this camera, he showed me in detail how to use it so when I left the store, I left with confidence to shoot. If you bought a camera at Best Buy or CostCo, you would not get this sort of help or knowledge when purchasing a camera, and it makes all the difference to someone just starting out. Joe is an incredible teacher. I am new to photography and have learned more from him in a few classes then I had in months. The Denver Zoo class was awesome and so educational. I highly recommend that class. I also took Photography 101 and 201 from Mike's camera and gained a strong foundation in the basics to build on. The staff at the stores are so knowledgeable and have been generous in their time spent with me to understand the products and accessories. Always disappointed by shopping here. Always the same response: "sorry sir, we are out of that right now". I Have tried to buy things there on multiple occasions and always walk out empty handed. Apparently when they are helping one person, they have to ignore everyone else in the store until that customer either buys something or walks away. I stopped by to take a look at the new nikon d850 , simmon was super nice and let me test a couple of lenses. He let me take my time answered all my questions and most importantly I never felt rushed or pressured. I ended up buying it after all and I was happy with my purchase. I've taken a few classes with Mike's Camera. 2 of them have included a Saturday photo shoot and an evening critique session where class participants display some of their photos that were taken at the Saturday " field trip". The instructors have been knowledgeable and helpful and really go out of their way to assist participants in getting a good result. Scott's Wild Bird class was last week and he met us at a local park where we were delighted to see lots of Wood Ducks waiting for us to take our best shot. Meeting other people who share the same passion for birds and photography brings a feeling of camaraderie to the event. The critique evening is very beneficial and provides the opportunity to show your work in a supportive and instructive environment, receiving feedback from the class and instructors. read more

I've shopped at Mike's for year; have always had a good experience. That's why, although I've moved 100 miles away, I came down a few days ago to Mike's Camera to develop some prints to sell. I also bought a new camera from Shelly! I shoot professionally at a resort and was completely over my own equipment. I wanted a "play" camera to replace my iPhone and updated professional gear. Shelly showed me a few things without overwhelming me or being condescending which would have been easy since I haven't bought equipment in probably 15 years. I got my play camera and now, with Shelly's help, know exactly what I will buy for professional use - from him of course. He was thorough, professional and patient. This is my first review on Yelp...and it's going to be a little ranty. I needed to convert some super8 film to digital. Mike's is (supposedly) the sort of B&H of Colorado, so I thought they would be the place to go to get the transfer done. I called the Boulder office and asked about either dropping it off there or if I could just drop it off at the Lone Tree location - which they said was fine. I also enquired about the format of native files and what their process was for doing the transfer. They weren't very knowledgable about the transfer, but told me the footage would be in mp4. Great. Their website said the usual turn around time was 7-10 days. When I dropped off the film I had a very lengthy conversation with, funnily enough, the employee of the month. I told her that I would be using the footage in a film so I needed native/editabe files. The HD blu ray copy was fine, but it was the mp4 files I really wanted. I was also told that they couldn't quote me a price until the transfer was complete. I calculated it would be around $50 (35 a foot for 150 feet), so that was fine. I also (stupidly) asked for an SD version. When I got home I called and cancelled the SD version (speaking with the same person I had seen an hour before) and made sure I would also get native mp4 files. Three weeks later, after calling a few times inquiring about the order's status (and updating the phone number they had on file - which was incorrect), I called again and after spelling my name 3 times so they could find the order I was told, "Oh, we left you a message two days ago, I left it myself, your order is here" (they did not, or still had the wrong number). At that point I inquired about the total and was told it would be $150.34. After a short conversation the rep said, "Oh, right...it's $52". When I went to pick it up I was told the total would be $150.34 again. I gave them their order sheet which clearly said, $52. I took the footage and the disc home and...it was a blu ray with no mp4 files. It was also pretty bad. More than once half of two frames were recorded (upper part of one and the lower of the second) and it was obvious this was not a frame by frame conversion. It was at that point that I realized, the "Add on Services" box for conversion to mp4 wasn't checked on the initial order. I also realized the $150.34 number was actually the length of the footage (150.34 feet). They did refund my order but also insisted that I couldn't have the blu ray disc. I hadn't even really thought about it, it was worthless to me without a blu ray optical drive. So, not wanting my super8 footage on a disc floating around at a place that had basically screwed up everything already, I asked for a pair of scissors, cut it in half, and gave it back to them. Overall the experience was not good. I am partially to blame for not closely inspecting the "Add-on Services" on the order sheet, but I was VERY clear about what I wanted. Mike's might be good at selling high end gear, but honestly the whole experience was...rather off putting. If you're going to transfer film I'd look elsewhere. read more
