They are the worst driving school around here. The instructor never told me that I would need…read moreadditional classes to pass; in fact, he assured me that I would pass just fine. However, when I took the driving test, he blamed me for choosing not to take another class, even though he hadn't advised me to take one until after I failed my exam for the second time. I failed because they gave me a terrible car to drive. It was very difficult to control: when I pushed the accelerator, the car would sometimes surge, but when I pressed it gently, it wouldn't move at all. When I tried not to accelerate too much, I dropped well below the speed limit; when I pressed a little harder, the car would hit the curb. On top of that, it made a lot of suspension noise while driving. I don't understand how this car even passed the state inspection. I cannot drive cars in that condition, it was constantly breaking down. They only care about collecting payments quickly.

The Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield runs the Community Boating rentals at Lake Quannapowitt in…read moreWakefield (kayaks and pedal boats) and Ell Pond in Melrose (kayaks) during the summer months. They have single and double kayaks available. The pricing is per hour and very affordable at $12 for a single, $16 for a double or the pedal boat. If you are a Wakefield resident you get a discount making it $9 and $12 respectively an hour. They also have a summer pass that is very reasonable. Everything runs very smoothly. You can reserve and pay ahead of time online - and probably can try to catch an hour in person if they have openings, but I would recommend making a reservation online ahead of time. I tried the pedal boat last year and went on opening day this year for the kayaks and plan to go a few more times this summer and maybe check out the Melrose location too. Both experiences have been great. They were prepared and ready for us when we showed up and were very friendly. When you get there and check in, you do have to fill out a waiver and get a life vest. They also have sunscreen available for if you forget to bring/wear it and need it. Make sure to wear clothes and shoes that you are comfortable getting wet because you will get a little wet. My one complaint with the pedal boat was that they did not flip it after the people before us so there was already some muck/water in the boat but it didn't ruin the experience and was not a big deal as we expected to get wet anyways, it would just be a small recommendation since those tend to get some leakage when out on the water. Overall, I really think this is awesome for the community and the boys and girls club and recommend that you support them if you want to get some local kayaking in during the summer!!

My new husband and I purchased a "colonial" home in Lynn, MA, in October, 2012. We loved its charm…read moreand its excellent health despite its age (built in 1820). After a year and a half, we discovered some rot in the basement floor timbers which we realized COULD NOT be ignored. We came to learn of J&S Carpentry & Construction and of their reputation. We invited their president, Jeff Schultz, to take a look at the situation and to estimate the extent of the repairs required and their cost. Jeff provided a detailed repair estimate, and what seemed to us a fair cost, considering the vital nature of work. As is often the case, as Jeff began the work, he discovered the situation was more extensive than he'd foreseen. The repair, including replacement of the rotted timbers, required his installation of several pressurized timbers, all supported above the foundation by mortar. While the repairs, originally estimated to require 3 days, finally required 4, the work was professionally accomplished. With its complexity, we were grateful that we'd contracted a bona fide Construction professional to do this vital work. We now enjoy the confidence that our home has been returned to full health. We were impressed and comforted by how much of the repair work Jeff himself actually performed in this project. Jeff's by-line is "J&S stands for Job Satisfaction." We can personally and enthusiastically attest to that assurance! We now recommend J&S Carpentry & Construction to anyone in need of totally dependable, vital repairs to their family's home.
