Overall, for me, Bryson Builders was a great decision, because Peter, the contractor, has experience with the insurance claim process; he is not "salesy" and listened to my concerns/questions; and he had a thorough estimate that clearly outlined all the work that would be completed. Having never been through a renovation, the repair process went beyond my expectations. Given that my roommate and I were still living in my home through the process, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. The Bryson Builders team members were professional and treated my home well. For the most part, the work area was cleaned on a daily basis and I can see progress as time passed. Due to my schedule, I appreciated the flexibility in being able to communicate with Peter via phone or email. I received updates from Peter frequently allowing me to be mentally prepared and/or to prepare my home as necessary. The finished product is so amazing, from the quality paint job throughout the home, the installation of the countertops, electrical work, and the bathroom tiling to the roof replacement. Not only does my house feel more like home but I feel confident that my home can withstand another snowpoccalypse. But once we had paid a retainer and had them working on a quote for the rebuild of a historical deck, they were unresponsive and communication was non existent. We hand-held them through the application process but they didn't listen to our explanation. The "contract" they sent us to sign was incomplete, missing entire sections and had errors, which we had to point out. Still they didn't revise it. They refused to let us review materials prior to submission to the Historical Commission, which was required given the historic designation of the house. Kept insisting they knew better and had experience working with historical commissions. Their quote for custom rebuild of the railings and columns was so overpriced, that even the Historical Commission staff was astounded. Finally they pulled out of the contract because their Commission application was about to be scrutinized, and they had a lot of work ahead. They did return a nominal amount of the retainer to us. The company had come highly recommended, yet our experience with them was sub par.

He and a coworker came by today to take a look at the damage. They found that the problem was due to the lack of a drip edge, which caused the wood to rot over time, and the gutter to fill with water and partially collapse. The screws attaching the eave to the soffit, which had more severely collapsed, fell out due to the rotted wood. Because the needed repairs were more extensive than what initially seemed like a straightforward fix (per the photo I sent them), they recommended I contact a roofer to make the repairs. Rob and his coworker were both very helpful, honest, and a pleasure to work with. They did not charge me for coming out to my house or for the diagnosis. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them again if needed.

We had lots of back-of-a-napkin quotes with no itemization and no time frame available.
