The choices for good, clean, and afforable homecooked meals in the Taft Area is understandably quite limited given it's a highly commercial area. But for a long time now, Migui's Cafe, located beside Benilde and across Saint Scholastica, has persisted.
This "canteen" (amazing how that word immediately paints a picture in your mind of the kind of place this is, right?) is a convenient go-to place for quick meals of rice and viand, free soup (oh, yes!) and dessert (cassava cake, polvoron, brazo de mercedes, and egg pie are the staple offerings).
The place tends to get packed during lunch so best to come a bit earlier than 12:00 noon to save a seat. Or if you can still bear your hunger, allow the lunchtime crowd to disperse first and eat your meal at around 2:00 in the afternoon so you can have the place to yourself.
