Yay for the Yelp Gourmet Runde to get my first taste of Tibetan food! Thanks to Patty G. for the…read morehookup and to Simon R. for organizing. This is a rather small restaurant right off the Talwiesenstrasse tram stop or a short walk from Goldbrunnenplatz and Schmiede Wiedikon. Very cozy and decorated with Tibetan stuff. The entire restaurant was full on Thursday night. We got to try a variety of food, and everything was kind of reminiscent of other familiar dishes, yet different in its own way. I liked how the food wasn't very spicy (I don't like spice) but still had a lot of flavor. And you could increase the heat to your liking with a variety of sauces. Everything had a great mouth feel (i.e. great density and lots of "Q", as we say in Taiwanese). Let's see if I can remember everything I ate. I don't know the names of any of the dishes, so I'll try my best to describe them here. 1. Thick flour crackers. Plain, but I liked them. Great crunch. 2. Clear vegetable soup with 3 kinds of spicy sauces you could add to increase the heat. 3. Thick dumplings--a vegetarian one filled with mashed potato (kind of like a pierogi) and one filled with meat (kind of like Chinese dumplings with the juice inside). 4. Chewy flat bread (kind of like a naan or Chinese bing). 5. A meat pie (kind of like a empanada). 6. A slightly spicy eggplant dish cooked in a thick, dark sauce. 7. Tiny strips of yak meat cooked with veggies. The yak tasted kind of like beef. 8. Glass noodles with black fungus (wood ear). 9. Spicy yogurt sauce. 10. Fried rice with mixed veggies. 11. Cucumber salad. 12. Cooked vegetables. 13. Some kind of salad that was pink (due to roses, I think). It kind of looked like shredded turnip, but I wasn't exactly sure what it was. 14. Barley flour ice cream. Overall, this was a great experience. The food was really heavy and yummy, and I definitely stuffed myself like a pig trying all the different foods.

I have a (perhaps unnatural) fixation on all things meat wrapped in dough. I love Dim Sum, Pigs in…read moreBlankets, Ravioli, Baos and, as of last year, Momos. Since affordable ones are exceedingly rare to come by in Zurich I rejoiced when I heard that the Shanrgila offers them all you can eat for merely 23.- a person! Thus, this review is for the lunch buffet (every Tues, Thurs, Fri) which I've attended half a dozen times in the last 10 months. There is nothing I could complain about: the people are super nice, the food is always amazing and fresh, the restaurant is clean and you always get a good deal with the Momos. Really, what could be wrong when you can treat yourself to all the beef Momos you can eat in all their juicy, savory, beefy goodness, which you eat by hand, btw. Finish your meal with a "Gerstenglacé" - if you can. It's a tiny portion of ice cream made from barley topped with dried Himalayan roots. So yummy and just the right amount after having stuffed yourself with the all-you-can-eat Momo.

Excellent! My favorite restaurant so far on our trip. I would like to come again many times. The…read morerösti was particularly delicious and the tea was excellent, too! The interior of the restaurant is very beautiful and the server was very friendly.

Yelp Review 2026 #64:…read more I'm not vegetarian and definitely not vegan. But I will dabble with the veg from time to time. Hiltl is popular for being the world's oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Here's information I will share that I wish was available before planning to come here. You must make a reservation for lunch/ dinner because that's when they're busy. Breakfast is for walk-ins and they don't do reservations. Hop on their website and be sure you're on the right location because they have several within a 2-mile radius...some on the same street. I went here to try their breakfast buffet. I wasn't sure how busy they got for breakfast so, I got here at 6:30am because I got the wrong information online! They open at 7am. Different locations have different hours. Check their website for actual hours and don't trust review site information because it's wrong! They're not busy for breakfast at all. There's 2 ways to do their buffet. You can pay a fixed price and fill your plate multiple times or go and fill your plate once and pay based on the weight of your food - you get free bread. I did the pay-by-weight option. I have a whole day of eating planned so, I wasn't about to fill up for breakfast. When they opened at 7am, they were still putting the food out one by one. By 7:20, all the food was out which was fine. I was in no rush. The spread includes fresh fruits, cheeses, butter, margarine, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, mango mousse, mango chia pudding, banana chocolate brownie crumble, a pear dessert (with cream, vanilla and orange), rosti, scrambled eggs, potato salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, beets, chickpeas, olives, couscous, corn salad, olives, asparagus, green peas, feta cheese, hardboiled eggs, curry salad, dolmades, broccoli and edamame, artichoke salad, bulgur salad, tabbouleh, orecchiette tofu salad, Thai salad, hummus, guacamole, muhammara, etc. They have 6 types of bread. Slice a piece and toast it yourself. Vegan and vegetarian food tend to taste strongly of coconut/ coconut milk and I don't like that. My favorites from the buffet include chocolate mousse, mango mousse, banana chocolate brownie crumble, dolmades, asparagus, orecchiette tofu salad, and Thai salad. I got a mango lassi to drink which I didn't like. It had curry powder. Service was pleasant. The restaurant was clean.
