I first reached out to Rojas construction for a fence job, which went great. The quality of…read morematerial used was superb, and the sturdiness of the construction was top notch. From here our needs grew exponentially in the form of building an actual in-law unit for a family member. I did interview several local construction companies, and I ended up selecting Rojas Construction for a few main factors. 1. The friendliness of the staff, 2. The level of communication - even on weekends! 3. Fair pricing. I didn't have any background with the ADU/in-law unit process and Israel, the owner of Rojas Construction, guided me throughout the entire journey. I didn't have an architect/engineer on hand so they recommended one to me. We finally settled on a 900 square foot design which would have taken approximately 2-3 months to build at the beginning of 2019, in normal circumstances. Then Covid hit and the permitting process with the local authorities slowed down to a trickle. Before the projected started, I got a quote for the job and did my due diligence by asking about any outliers that could impact the time, scale, and cost of the build. I was informed at the beginning that the plumbing and electrical aspects could be an issue as those need to be tied into our existing house. An analysis was not done prior so to no surprise, the previously mentioned topics came up. However, Israel handled the plumbing and electrical bumps with calm and control. Overall, the completed project was on target to our budget and without Covid happening would have been close to the deliverable timeframes. It's rare to say this in relation to a construction job, but Rojas Construction, especially Israel, Antonio, Pedro, Alvaro, Frank, and Lidia have been a pleasure to work with. The unit is beautiful and has exceeded expectations, my mom is happily living here now. See pictures attached.

I remember reading that and thinking maybe it was just one bad situation. Turns out........ nope. That's pretty much exactly what happened, honestly multiplied by 100. The whole experience was horrible from start to finish. And after all of it, a roofing inspector said the work that had been done needed to be torn out and redone. DO NOT get fooled by the lowball bid from Mad Pelican aka Avi Cooper. Anyway..... should have paid more attention before going down this road. Hopefully this helps someone else avoid the same mistake.

The worst experience with a contractor ever. I seriously believe Avi of Mad Pelican is mentally…read moreill. He underbid the roofing job for our condominium building presumably in order to get the contract. He then started and stopped ... and started and stopped the job... over and over again, sometimes staying idle for 4 to 6 weeks. When it rained he left the roof without covering and protecting areas that were vulnerable so that all our units developed major leaking. As he continued to work in this manner he kept finding reasons to raise the price. Avi would harass our management team and board of directors; demanding the additional money over his original bid. A pattern emerged where he would not return to work without getting the additional monies he demanded. The more he worked the worse the leaking became and I began to believe he was either incompetent or purposefully sabotaging our roof (in order to extract more money from us). This went on for three months until our HOA finally terminated his contract. We have now to hire another roofing company in order to repair what Avi has done and complete the job! HIRE THIS COMPANY AT YOUR RISK AND PERIL!!!!!

Overall, I like the paint job Barbour did of the interior of my home. The price was unbeatable and…read morethey were very accommodating of our schedule; we were home for one week of the job, and away for the second as the ceilings had to be scraped. The colors are fresh and I love how they patched cracks and caulked things in. I give them 3 stars for a few reasons. The first being the mess. Our house was EXTREMELY dusty with gypsum when we arrived home at the end of the project, even in the insides of closets that hadn't even been painted. It took us days to wash and wipe everything down, and we were sneezing and itching the whole time and had to wear masks. I was told that everything would be cleaned with Simple Green, so it was very disconcerting that it clearly wasn't. Even now, weeks later, you can bump a baseboard and white dust will fall off/out. We have green overspray on our light colored stamped concrete walkway and the exterior siding of the house around it, texture on the tops of ceiling fans and light switches, and paint drips on our interior wooden floors, which had been covered. It seems like while we were home they were very meticulous, but while we were gone they felt free to be sloppy and disregard our property and belongings. Second, they removed a ceiling fan at my request, which I appreciated, but we came home to it broken, with paint all over it, and found it sitting in the pouring rain on the porch. Needless to say, we had to purchase a new ceiling fan and are very bummed that the old one is no longer usable. Third, I was not pleased that my request for a change order was ignored. The estimator, Rodger, was great. Friendly, accommodating and promised me the world. Once I signed the contract, though, I never heard from him again. I had sent him a change order in writing two days after I signed and never heard back. I figured he maybe would tell the crew what I wanted. I felt like I had to hound the project manager about things that weren't done "correctly" because nobody ever acknowledged the change order. I even told him what I wanted more than once, and offered to pay extra to ensure they got done. But in the end I just gave up on getting everything I wanted.
