Like, seriously, camping just sucks. But here, at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Lake Monroe, I actually kind of enjoy camping a tiny bit, because of these reasons: 1. They offer cabins! And they're super clean! And they come with full refrigerators, and TVs with cable, and full bathrooms with showers inside. And screened porches where you can relax on a summer's evening without having to worry about swatting away mosquitos. 2. They offer a full day's worth of activities for the whole family. When you check in, they give you a long paper that they've printed that lists all the fun they've planned for the time period that you're staying, broken down by the hour. So you can choose to participate in any number of family-friendly activities, like water balloon races, or bubble activities, or crafts, or water gun things. Every morning, you can meet up with Cindy Bear and do some stretches and say the pledge of allegiance. Kids love this stuff! This campground really caters to kids and families. Also, there are dozens of high school- and college-aged kids who work there who are constantly supervising and will start up random games of Simon Says or Red Light, Green Light with kids. 3. Besides the planned activities, this place has an amazing splashground and two pools. The splashground is like a splash pad and water park rolled into one: there are slides, bubblers, sprinklers and the like, with beach chairs around the water area. Next to the splashground is the playground and sandbox, which is where my kids spent a lot of time playing. 4. There's lots of other stuff to do, like hiking (we found lots of geodes!), or you can rent a go cart or golf cart and drive around, or play volleyball or basketball, or jump on the Jump Pillow, or mine for fossils, or play a board game in the recreation room, or get a scoop of ice cream at the Ranger Center. There is seriously so much to do here. I should also note that the people who work here are so friendly and will bend over backward to accommodate you. They are also super chill and totally used to kids being kids, so we felt completely comfortable during our whole stay. I can't say enough positive things about Jellystone Park. We had such a great experience, especially my kids, which is why I suffer through things like camping in the first place. We will definitely be back!

The campgrounds are excellent, especially Taylor Ridge. But be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time, especially if you are planning a fall camping trip. Campsites sell out early. Shower rooms are decent, not wonderful. But satisfactory for a campground. Quiet hours are strictly observed, and the park rangers will pay a visit to your campsite if you aren't quiet after 10:00 pm Once we received a visit from a friendly park ranger when we were playing cards around 11 pm. We hadn't realized that we were being noisy at all but the ranger advised us that sound carries throughout the campground. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate. Trail maps are available are the trails are well marked. You will likely see deer and raccoons when hiking the trails. Some members of our group enjoy mountain biking too.

My family and I are seasoned campers. We love Hardin Ridge! In comparison to Paynetown Campground…read morewe found Hardin ridge better because, the restrooms are clean, private showers, beautiful views, the sites are mostly private, fishing ponds, nature trails and is a Federal Camping area. In contrast, Hardin Ridge may not be ideal for camping, if you have a boat, which we do... there is a solution for boaters though, we rent a RV site and can park right on the site. You need to do your homework though!!! Only the right side of the campground can be reserved, and the rest is first come first serve. There is a large parking lot near the launch area as well, although we do not trust leaving our boat. One other reason you might not like Hardin Ridge is the proximity to stores for gas, groceries, beer and other supplies. In Paynetown, you are basically missing the wilderness experience, you are in a field seeking shade. Make sure to bring shower shoes and wait in line for the showers! We are consistently harassed by their rent a cop...seriously! For example, we were told the park does not like Rap! They want you to be realllllly quite at 10:00, and trust me they do walk into your site and tell you to be quite. We have guitars and were not allowed to play them. Another example, was we then thought we would get a primitive site close to the water so that we could park our boat in front of our campsite. Well, funny story...we came in from a day on the lake and other boats parked on our site, walked right through our camp area...I confronted one. Lets just say Conservation Officers were called to the situation, They did nothing to stop these people from walking into are camp... You are close to amenities though, there is a store and gas station close by, and many parks for little ones. it is flat for tents. CITY SLICKERS Welcome...lol To sum it up, we have never had people problems at Hardin Ridge, and because we have a boat we are 3 min to 4winds Marina, and a skip to Allens Creek!! Hardin Ridge overlooks Allens Creek. There is quite time but nobody has ever said anything about a low radio or a strum of a guitar... nobody ever bothers our stuff or us!! The campground is primitive with no running water and two primitive toilets. However, the surrounding Wilderness and hiking trails are amazing. The camp and trails are opened to horses. The campsites feature fence posts for reining your trusty steed. There were no horses on the day that we visited but there was evidence that they were in the trails recently. There is probably room for 100 campers with limitations of 10 people per site. The sites are fairly close together. You must bring your own water and supplies and remove all trash when leaving. There is a 14 day camping limit. There are spaces for campfires and they ask you to clean those up when you leave. There is no hook-up of any kind nor picnic tables. The campsite was pristine and natural during our visit. The surrounding trails go into the Hoosier National Forest and are fairly well marked. The area is beautiful but rugged in some parts. I'd go back, especially during off season. It's lovely and peaceful.

Call my husband who's out walking with our granddaughter and he sees this guy off the mower and IN OUR BASEMENT. My husband is rushing back to see what he's doing. Lawn guy says "I saw you walking and I was trying to get this fixed before you got back". Wait WHAT? Never mind there's someone trying to shower inside. My husband was pissed. Asked him why not knock on the door, why not wait till I got back?? Took it upon himself to get in OUR BASEMENT. We've NEVER had anyone at anytime at any campground attempt to even step foot on our site much less ACCESS OUR BASEMENT. Next comes the children living here. This forest has many camping sites, but they don't let yo reserve any before arriving. Our friend recommended arriving before 2pm to hopefully get a spot. We arrived then on one of the busiest most beautiful fall weekends and scored the LAST spot. Woohoo! We were allowed two tents on our camping spot, which came with a bonfire set up and cooking rack. There was a wooden bathroom only a few steps away and a lake within walking distance as well. The bathrooms didn't have sinks, but there was a water spigot down the road if needed. Most people camping here came for four or five days at a time and had awesome RV or airstreams set up on their camping sites. Therefore, most people went to bed quite early and we weren't bothered by anyone being too loud. Everyone had great fires going and we liked not being the only ones out here. The building where you pay for your campsite also had $5 log bundles you could buy, so we got a couple of those. There were tons of sticks and leaves around that we used to build up our fire as well. This spot is only a fifteen minute drive from Nashville, IN, so is such a great spot. Go check it out!
