Went back after 10 years and I didn't recognize the saddle barn area. Not cleaned up from trails coming in or going out, manure pile is the first thing you pass going in, what once was grass and fence in the pony track isn't anymore, and only the ponies were saddled, not the trail horses. One of the owners wasn't dressed to ride if needed (meaning in a jumper not jeans) and if barn is off limits, which the aisle was cluttered anyway, it should be roped off until needing to pass through with a horse. Previous operator ran 80 trail horses and a dozen ponies and it was always kept in great shape and clean for visitors, horse owner always ready to lead a trail and horses ready with plenty of hay in the racks of the pens. Very disappointed that it is allowed to look like that. Only good thing was there was mounting steps but the location and permanent look questionable. The horses and ponies looked good. read more

We were really disappointed with our experience at Brown County Saddle Barn Trail Rides. We waited over four hours, which made it extremely difficult, especially with kids. I was encouraged when told they would call us when we were 25 minutes out, but then they said the cell service didn't work, so we were afraid to leave to go hiking or eat. The whole day was wasted waiting for this experience. The whole process seemed very inefficient, and it's hard to understand why they don't take reservations. Allowing guests to book a time slot ahead of their visit would make things so much smoother and save families from wasting an entire day just waiting around. Brown County is such a beautiful place, but unfortunately, this experience really took away from the enjoyment. read more

My granddaughter turned 2 so I brought her to the Saddle barn for a pony ride. I was so impressed with the staff, how clean it was, and the ponies were so very cute. I would definitely recommend bringing your family here for a great time. KRA read more

We drove for an hour to get there. The website and their message both said the last tour left at 5:00 pm. We got there at 3:00 only to be rudely told that they were not taking anymore riders today. The guy was a total jerk about it; complaining that they'd already had 300 customers today. Apparently once they get to a certain number, they've made enough money for the day. To sum it up- unorganized, rude, and a waste of time. read more

Do not ride the horses here. I now have a broken arm and many bruises after being thrown off of a horse. Not to mention 2 people fell off the day before I did and were lucky enough not to have injuries as bad as mine. The horse behind my horse kept trying to cut him in line and he was getting irritated about it and he was already super hungry because he stopped to try to eat every few steps. My friend behind me was continuously trying to get her horse to slow down with no luck and the instructors were no help. I have ridden horses many times before and I have never seen horses behave like these ones did. And to make matters worse the staff was so rude and acted like they did not want to be there. I took an ambulance to the hospital by walking to the road near the trail and when my friends informed them that I broke my arm they said that wasn't likely because I wasn't crying. (I had the wind knocked out of me and I was in shock, it took almost 10 minutes before I was even willing to try moving) it just goes to show how uncaring and insensitive the staff is. Poor management is putting the safety of the riders and the horses at risk. The staff placed people on horses at random and placed horses that do not like each other next to each other in line. The horse I was riding did not like having others behind it. They placed my husband on another horse behind me that was known to ride very closely behind other horses. This resulted in my husband getting kicked in the foot by my horse when his horse repeatedly got too close. This could have been avoided if they had just put the horses in the order they were comfortable walking in and I know the staff is aware of this order because the guide said my horse always loves to ride in the back and my husbands horse always cuts in line to get to the front during rides once I asked at the end. The horses eventually passed each other on the trail and sorted out the order themselves and then there weren't any other problems. The horses also were not given any breaks between rides and they were obviously exhausted and over worked. The horse in front of me had diarrhea and I was stumbling. I told the guide about it when we got back and she said it was nothing to worry about and they loaded another person onto the horse. I would not recommend coming to this place to ride. The horses are not being cared for properly and it's resulting in unsafe conditions. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before paying for our family to ride. The staff were rude and overheated. The horses were exhausted. They workers (except for the one who was someome's mom in the office) seem overworked and hate their job. On my release form, I indicated that I had no experience with horses. They also asked as we saddled up. I asked for a set of steps to assist in getting on and off the horse. I was told that I was not much older that the lady working and I didnt need one. During the ride, I needed help and was at the back of the line. The guide told me not to yell that I was going to scare the horses. I was given zero assistance. When it was time to disembark, I asked for the steps so that I could get down. I was told that I didn't need them (the steps were just a few feet away). I turn 50 tomorrow and take this as a compliment that I appear to be in good physical shape. If I am treated that way, how is someone with a disabilty treated? We did have a nice time as a family, but if you or your group has someone with any special needs, be wary of this business. You will get no assistance. read more

My 2 friends and I went on a trial ride in the morning. The horses were very well behaved and the trail was stunning. However, as someone who has ridden for 10 years and worked as a lesson instructor and trail guide for 2, there are absolutely zero safety practices in place here. The man in charge was rude to all the guests, making us feel as if we were bothering him (at his job?). There was almost no instruction given which made me nervous for everyone involved. When we got back, the rude guy told my friend to "swing her leg over and just step down," to which she fell flat on the ground and rolled her ankle. He immediately looked at her and said "why did you do that?" Getting on and off the horse is dangerous, he could've given a lot more explanation. The practices in place here don't fly at good quality equestrian centers. Dangerous and a little concerning for the horses safety as well. Be wary. read more

The Brown County Stables is the best stables I have ever been to. Wonderful staff and fantastic and well behaved horses!

Very disrespectful to those with disabilities!!! My nephew is Autistic and was treated very poorly at this stable. No help was provided by the staff to assist his mother with getting him on the horse. Stear clear of this place! read more

We were staying at the Brown County Park for a family reunion and me, my husband, sister in law and her husband decided to go horseback riding at the Saddle Barn. My husband called and they didn't require any reservations. We got there, signed in, paid for an hour ride (over 3 miles) and were on our horses within about 15 min. There were 8 of us in the group we rode in plus a guide. Our guide was AWESOME. I don't remember her name but she was younger maybe early to mind 20's. The ride was beautiful and all the horses were well mannered. All the reviews I read had me nervous but we had a great experience. I'm guessing if you go into it looking to have a good time and follow the requests from the employees, you will have a great time. read more

I don't think the ride leaders had a clue about horsemanship. So so sad. If you want to be hauled around for an hour by an unfortunate animal, this may be your place. If you know anything at all about horses, go somewhere else. read more

The poor horses seem overworked, when I got on my horse I noticed the one next to me was breathing hard, nostrils flaring trying to catch his breath, they put him in the corral for a break, never seen a trail horse so winded. About half way through the 3 mile ride my horse started stumbling from time to time. The horses seemed unusually tired and the staff didn't care they were just there to get paid. read more

If you have autism or some othe disability Do Not Go here. They discriminate against you! If I could, I would give them a big fat ZERO. Our heartbreaking experience....When I signed in and paid, told her we had driven an hour and a half to ride because there is no place closer, I was told they let those with autism ride all the time. Well my son, 21, Is severly affected HOWEVER he rides every Tuesday and has won Gold in the special Olympics and he's been riding since he was 3. There were two young ladies and one man working. My son has trouble hauling himself on but with a push can make it. As soon as the man saw us, he said he has to be able to control the horse they are animals with minds of their own! Yes l know that. I also know that my son can hold on and that if you have Ever been to a trail ride, the horses follow along and never get off the trail. That man stood us next to an extremely tall horse, so tall my son could barely reach the horn and couldn't get his foot in the stirrups but I helped him. The he and I tried 3 times while that man just stood there waiting fir us to fail. There were blocks of stone he could havr allowed my son to stand on and he woild have hopped rigjt on, or he, being a stronger person than me (mom) could have pushed him on onto this gigantic animal :/ Well after 2 hours of getting excited about riding now we are on our way home because my son has autism. I have never been so angry about being discriminated against as I am in this day!!! read more

I called ahead of time to ask a few questions before showing up, and the male who was on the phone seemed to be impatient with an attitude. When we got there, I figured out who he was and again, seemed as if he was annoyed about something. I brushed it off thinking he had a bad day... and with 3 other people with me, I wanted to have a good time! Waiting for about an hour, I observed the the same younger male and young female handle the horses and I just seemed appalled. The male kept yanking the horses trying to get them to do what he wanted them to do and the female just seemed like she didn't care about her job. Not once did I see her crack a smile. Im sure the horses were tired as they have been walking practically all day. I gave it 3 stars because I did enjoy the trail itself. It was beautiful and the other people enjoying the trail with us were a joy to be around. I may come back again, but ill be looking elsewhere first. read more
