I had a blast here playing paintball. I called ahead, made reservations, they told me when to get there for our 1pm start time. We had 20 people and they were so organized. When we got there, we followed the signs to paintball. We went into the place that looked like it would be the office, it was. We made sure everyone signed the waiver, a few of us wanted overalls. We got everything done and we were ready for our safety / procedure instructions. After that, we started the paintball fight! We split in two teams, the teams were mixed each session, we played about 6 rounds with 3 different games and then it was time for us to head home - we could have been there longer, but we had a schedule to keep. Upon arrival, there was no clear indication of where to check in. The building labeled Office had a permanent "Closed" sign, which made things even more confusing. After wandering around, we finally found someone. The owner seemed unsure about checking us in, mentioning that they're normally closed on Tuesdays, which explained why only two staff members were onsite and why it felt like they weren't expecting us. We were informed there was an electrical outage being worked on at the time. Understandable--but when we tried to pull into our site to wait it out, the space was occupied by the electrician and his trailer of tools. The owner had to track him down to get the site cleared. Once we finally pulled in, the campsite itself was a mess: five trash cans stacked up, a broken picnic table shoved to the back, a fire pit overflowing with ash and garbage, and litter scattered all over--plastic utensils, bottle caps, string, caution tape, and paper trash. The whole site looked neglected, with uneven gravel, sticks, and leaves everywhere. We had prepaid $46 for a trailer of firewood, expecting enough for a 5-day stay. Instead, what we received was roughly the equivalent of four bundles--maybe $28 worth at best--and the wood was wet, making it hard to use. Other campers around us received much larger, drier loads of wood, and even a staff member commented that our delivery was ridiculous and promised more, but nothing ever came. The bathrooms and showers were another major disappointment. Except for one permanent building at the far end of the park, everything else is portable toilets and trailers. The trailer near us was unusable the first day because no one had bothered to turn the breaker on. Even once it was working, the power was mysteriously shut off multiple times without notice, leaving campers stranded. It also wasn't stocked with hand towels until our last day. The shower trailer offered only two stalls, both moldy, with no hooks or shelves to place belongings. The shower I used had such a moldy curtain that I refused to close it. Ventilation was poor, and if you cracked the window, you were exposed to a mechanical area and a neighboring porch. Portable toilets throughout the park were even worse--several were overflowing, creating awful smells that you couldn't avoid while walking to the lake. While the park map shows brick-and-mortar restrooms at the event hall, staff told us they simply don't open them. Everywhere we went--the docks, stages, buildings--looked dirty, dusty, and poorly maintained. The "vintage campers" offered for rent were also concerning. They were left unlocked, and when we peeked inside, the smell of mold and mildew was overpowering. The bedding looked like it hadn't been washed in months. There's no way I would ever stay in one of those. Ultimately, we cut our stay short by a day because nothing about the experience encouraged us to stick around. Bottom line: The location itself is stunning and the property has incredible potential, but it desperately needs a full cleanup and refresh. Campsites should be maintained (fire pits cleaned, picnic tables fixed, gravel added, trash removed), facilities deep-cleaned, and bathrooms and showers properly managed. The dock area needs attention (and the massive wasp nest removed). The entrance and check-in process should be clear and welcoming, and rental campers need serious restoration before being offered. With effort and care, this place could be worth the $45/night rate. But in its current state, it was a huge disappointment. read more

eXplore Brown County is a family friendly place nestled in the hills of Brown County, IN. They offer a wide range of activities, including zip lines, off road tours, paintball, arrow tag and overnight accommodations. On our most recent visit, my kids and I spent the afternoon playing paintball. We were able to team up with other players and played on multiple fields. Afterwards, we checked into our cabin... #10 - Bartels Log Cabin (1 Queen bed, 1 Bunk Bed, Loft, Outdoor Hammock) that we had for the night. The cabin met our needs and had a nice deck and fire pit. It's nothing fancy and could use a little updating, but the price wasn't bad, and we all enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful to lay on the outdoor hammock under the stars and next to the fire. One of our favorite parts was the owner's dog who would stop by and relax on the deck with us. Looking forward to another visit next year!! read more

We did a tour for our first anniversary and had a blast. Ours started around 10am and we were the only ones! The guides said later tours had more guests. When we first arrived we were a little confused by the layout, but once we found the correct check-in cabin (to the left) we were taken care of by the staff. We were ziplining for about 90 minutes. It was the perfect amount of adventure and feeling safe. The lines were longer than I expected and the final "trust fall" was too much for me!! The guides were excellent and focused on safety. Navigating the "little smokies" on ATVs has been the highlight of our trip to Brown County, Indiana. It was exhilarating. We chose the perfect day with just enough mud. CAMP CABINS Great option for summer camping. Bring everything except a tent. The cabins were in decent condition but did have a pretty musty smell. The carpet in the cabins should probably be ripped up in favor of wood or tile. The window unit AC is a welcome reprieve from sweltering summer heat when camping in the summer and the mini fridge with freezer worked great to keep 3 days' worth of groceries cold. The beds have a protective plastic wrap on them but I'd still give them a good wipe with a Clorox wipe. They're reasonably comfortable and way better than an air mattress or the hard ground. The cabin was a perfect size for the two of us and we were able to use the other beds as a place to put our stuff. It seems like this would be way too cramped for a family of more than three, but your mileage may vary depending on your tolerance. PROPERTY & STAFF The spacing and privacy between camp cabins leave something to be desired. Also, there is a bright light on the big barn convention center that points directly into one of the sites. Sadly, ours was that site. It was impossible to get in contact with anyone at the company after business hours. Randomly, there was a seasoned regular camping nearby who happened to have the number for the grounds manager who lived nearby so he came by to turn it off. There are also two adorable and sweet dogs who live there and they camped out with us the whole weekend. STUFF TO DO We booked the evening zip line and it was so great! The instructors were fantastic and the final zip over the lake was picturesque. The costs were competitive to other zip line excursions and it was so convenient. I've recommended this place to friends and family and would certainly give them another go. read more

Fun, fun, fun!! Take your kids here. We did the Explorer Canopy tour. The guides Janelle and Sam were awesome. They made us all feel safe and confident in our gear. The actual zip lines were awesome. The 2 sky bridges we walked across were pretty rad too. We paid the extra 10 bucks and did the Leap of Faith at the end and it was well worth it. The minimum weight is 50lbs so ill be bringing my 7 year old the next time we come here. I can only imagine doing this during the fall would be absolutely amazing with the colors. read more

My wife and I just zip lined here this evening and we enjoyed it very much! The staff all did a great job at making sure you were safe and made sure everything was done right. We did the night zip line tour and it was very cool we even went ahead and did the free fall at the end of the tour, that was insane cause I think they said you're up 40 feet and you just take a leap off the deck, was fun! It was our first time zip lining so we didn't know what to expect but we were very pleased with our adventure. Not much more to say, just go out and try this zip line tour out, it's great fun! My family did the Screamer zip tour. Our guides were Alex, Jeannelle and Chris. They did a great job explaining how everything was going to work before we did anything. They were very safety conscious. It was a good time. I didn't give it 5 stars because it seems like they could use more help in the office. There was only one person in the office to answer the phone and take care of people who came in. The phone was busy, so it was often 5+ minutes before anyone could talk to you. I loved the various signs posted around the place. All in all, highly recommended! read more

I went to Explore Brown County yesterday for my birthday. I loved it! All the staff made a huge deal that it was my birthday. I even got a free t-shirt because we were there celebrating. Gary, the owner, is awesome! He's funny and super knowledgeable about the land and the history of Brown County. He and Tony took us on the dune buggy tour. I had so much fun! After quick instruction and being outfitted in safety gear. We hit the trails! I got to drive up and down steep hills, through little creeks, over rocks, logs, and mud. All while learning about the land, homesteads and trees! It was the best driving experience! We also did the zip line tour! Jenelle and Danger were our guides. They were amazing! They were super funny and made the experience very exciting. They were great at explaining everything and I always felt very safe! The screamer zip line awesome! You definitely have to do that line while your there. Zip On!! Thank you Gary and Explore Brown County staff for making my experience fantastic! Drove down to Brown County for a friend's Bday celebration. After a few wrong turns and NO sign on the main road we arrived at eXplore Brown County. Excited to ZIP-line we made our way to the office, still early for our reservation time. The meeting hall was an experience by itself, decorated with old-timey junk on the walls. It was ridiculously lovely... And then, it wasn't... The woman at the front desk shouted at the Bday girl "Are you the 12-20?" B: Umm... no. We had a reservation for 1:00pm. W: So you're the 12-20?! B:... Umm there are four of us, here to zip at 1:00pm W: You were supposed to be here at 12:30 for the 12-20!! (The woman barked -Apparently, 12-20 is the name of the course we chose online). B: We had a reservation for 1:00pm. W: Well it says get here a half hour early!! (Nowhere on the print out of our reservation does it say arrive 30mins early) W: You need to hurry up, because they just might have already left without you. (It's 12:50pm) The woman proceeds to take two of our three credit cards, and charge the full amount on them without giving us receipts, even after we asked for individual receipts for what was charged on our card. Clearly rushing us, she prints off the reservation three times and gives it to us as a receipt. We give up, and rush down the dirt trail hoping the group hasn't left us. We arrived at the loading station only to realize that a large group of about ten people were just sitting around starring at us. We assumed at first that they were angry guests... after some awkward laughing about the awfulness of how this adventure was going we apologized to the group for being late. It turns out they were all just trainee employees heading up to train on the lines at the same time as our group. We were the ONLY GUESTS scheduled for 1:00pm. The woman at the desk was rude, and really soured our visit from the start... for no reason. The ZIP-team was pretty great. We had two lovely guides; Bridget & Max... (actually, I think Max was her dog's name, but no one remembers the guys name so we'll substitute it here). Things to know before you go: The website says the course is ten lines. Don't be confused, each zip course is just two short zips (and we even did the longest one in the state). The zip is overwith pretty quickly. It takes an hour total to suit up, brief, take a tractor to the top of the hill... and then you zip for just a few minutes, and walk back. It's really quite short. It's fun. And the grounds and lake are lovely. But this place was rude to us and I'd say it wasn't worth the drive from Indianapolis to be treated like we were. They need to work on getting more signs for the main road, making their website clear about arriving 30 minutes early, and improve their customer service skills. read more

The guide was really fun and knowledgeable and very positive and encouraging we had a xouple of ladies who was very new to driving four wheelers and I felt the guide was really help and offered a lot of pointers to gdt them feeling comfortable quickly. We loved it! It was our first time doing any zip lining. My son and I went for his 13th birthday. My son is autistic and has trouble following instructions so I was nervous to take him, but he really wanted to try. I let the guide know this and he discretely made us both feel very safe and normal the whole time. We had "Danger" and Seth for our guides. They were both funny, professional, knowledgeable, and safe. We did the five zips with bridges. The other attractions looked pretty cool too. We might go back to try out the ATV's. It is definitely great for a quick trip down from Indianapolis. read more

eXplore Brown County - Campgrounds Near Me - Nashville, Indiana

Quick pit stop at Explore Brown County before heading down to Louisville for the weekend. We had reserved an hour tour on the ATV's and this was one of the most fun ATV experiences I've had in awhile! It is a guided tour, but the guide is great, and definitely handy as the terrain is extremely hilly and without the guide, you'd not only get lost but also likely tip over your vehicle if you don't know what you're doing and / or first timer. Our guide gave us a quick overview on handling the vehicle (for insurance purposes), went through a quick practice run so he could ensure we knew how to correctly lean when hills and large branches were on the ground, and then we were on our way! They have two dogs that also run alongside the entire run, which was awesome to see! We had a couple stops along the way so he could give some history to some of the sites there, and to also take some photos. We had a great time, an hour long was perfect for what we were looking for. This is a cool place ! We had a greatttt time zip lining, one of the guides even dressed as Santa for the holiday season. The zip lines were great fun and the guides were hilarious yet knowledgeable. The owner was so hospitable; and we can't say enough good about this place. If you don't want to zip line there's a bunch of other cool stuff to do that we hope to check out next time. Just a quick review based on a camping experience only. First, eXplore Brown County has no sign off the main road (or rather, a very very small one). Make sure you follow your GPS...don't blink or you might miss your turn! The campground is definitely not the focus of eXplore Brown County and it showed. The campground overall is not huge, they offer maybe 40 sites total, about half with electrical and water hook-ups. Each site is pretty small, luckily we were the only ones camping in our little area. If not, we would have been right on top of our neighbors! The sites themselves were clean and offered a small fire pit. You can buy an armful of firewood at the front office for $5, which isn't too bad. The only bathrooms available are at the front office (inside plumbing with showers) or a couple port-o-potties near the back of the campground. They were all clean, but not super accessible. Also, they do not have any water fountains, so you have to fill up your water bottles inside the front bathrooms, which was also a pain. If I'm ever camping in Brown County again, I'll definitely camp somewhere else. read more

I am not a hard-core paintball player, but from what I could tell this place was pretty sweet. You show up and there are all sorts of old army trucks and the place looks like a breading ground for militia members. The office is an old semi truck trailer, pretty sweet. I played 3 different courses; the big long death match course, a run-up the hill to complete objectives course, the speedball course. My favorite was the objective based games. The entire staff there was super friendly. Just like any other service industry job, if you are nice to them, they will be nice back. It is paintball, so they get easily pissed with people abusing the equipment, safety protocol and acting like over-all idiots. They were preparing for a pro-match at the end of our day. The pro match was going to take place on the field we were on after we decided we were done. The staff and all of the pro's waited patiently for us to finish then asked if we would like to continue to play after close with them. Being from out of town we politely declined as we were hungry and had to drive back to Indy. read more

My Family and I rented cabin here and had what I will say is the "Best Vacation". From the time I reserved the cabin, to checkout all was good. Neil was on site and helped with any questions or just to check up on guests needs. We fell in love with Barney & Shadow the camp dogs. my granddaughter had great time playing in creek and playground areas. This was a quick stop in the middle of our return from a cross country trip.. being 7 years old and confined to a backseat for hours at a time does not make happy children....this experience put huge smiles on my kids' faces...they experienced the super hero ride, and I paid a few extra dollars so they could shoot paintballs at random hubcaps. This combines zip lining with paintball, and what a thrill they had participating in this novel activity. It is apparent that the guides enjoy the activities as much as the participants do. D was so patient with the kids and kept checking in with them to make sure they were comfortable. And we all got an ATV ride to reach the destination, which was an added bonus....highly recommend this place for so many reasons... read more

Went to play paintball there with a group of guys from my fraternity on Oct. 30 and loved it! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The courses there were fun and exciting to play on. We started playing capture the flag on the course with cool rustic cars in the woods. Next, we played a zombie experience on an uphill course. Lastly, we moved to another course on flat land with inflatable bunkers. Overall, the experience is one that will keep me going back. read more

We found eXplore Brown County after fleeing another camp ground after a terrible experience. The staff here were friendly, courteous, and made certain that everything we needed was provided. Everyone we encountered was helpful and respectful. The grounds were perfect for primitive camping and there were so many activities available that it was difficult not to want to do them all. We even briefly expressed interest in night zip-lining and someone in the office called us to follow-up and see if we were still interested in going. My friends and I went to eXplore Brown County to zip line for my 30th birthday this past weekend. We did the Canopy Tour, including 5 zip lines, 2 sky bridges, and a 30-foot rapel. It was absolutely amazing! It was easy to find, registration was quick (most of it is handled online), and the employees definitely know their stuff. They help you get into your harness correctly, double and triple checking as they go to ensure your safety. They explain everything before you get going, and as terrifying as a few things might sound, they have a way of lightening the mood and explaining how to handle difficult situations. Even a ridiculous downpour didn't deaden our moods : ) Our guides, Conner and DJ, were fantastic! When I missed a landing on one of my zip lines, DJ handled it like a pro. He never moved beyond cool and collected, putting me at ease. They also made sure that we knew what to do if something like that went wrong, so I was well prepared. Connor has to handle a similar situation for one of my friends. Total professionals! I would absolutely recommend this place for a weekend getaway and I will undoubtedly be going back in the future! read more

My family & I had a blast. The staff is friendly, and explain the instructions very well. I actually found a discount on Groupon for the paintball also. But a few suggestions for anyone that is doing the paintball. The paintball 'balls' sting when they connect with you. I had a shirt,sweatshirt, and coveralls on & I could still feel it. It left marks on my skin in some places. I recommend you wearing Several layers of clothing. They have coveralls you can rent for $4 a piece. But buyer beware! These coveralls were damp & in a bin outside. They smelled and most of them were ripped to shreds. You also couldn't tell what ones were used & dirty vs the clean ones. BUT with that being said, the extra layer of clothing did help. Another thing that I recommend is doing a little research. They do not tell you that it's going to be an additional $25 per person for your paintballs and air. Which are not included. Then we also noticed a $7 charge on my credit card which they emailed the receipt to, for a paintball "TAX". I feel like they should have told me about that one. I would've been fine with it, but I really Didnt care to seeing a surprise charge on my credit card. There is also a waiver that each person must sign. You can do it via website or do it when u get there. Also you must be very able to tromp through woods, leaves, sticks, and debris to do this activity btw. They don't clean up the areas very well. Just let nature do its course, and if you happen to trip over a large limb or fall in the small stream, well, You did sign the waiver.... lol. Inside the buildings, you can tell that everything is covered in a layer of filth. Even the small store where you pay for everything and you can purchase T-shirts & such was covered in a layer of dust and who knows what else. Some of the outside facilities look like a hoarders dream!You'll understand more when you see it. The guns do jam up from time-to-time but you just pull that little lever & all is well. I will also advise you to call ahead & make reservations ahead of time. They have to call a referee in to the facility. They don't keep guys there at all times. So they have to schedule a referee for your paintball game. I would also highly recommend taking cash with you to tip your referees. Nowhere anywhere online does it say to tip your referee. But everywhere at the location, has signs up that say "don't forget to tip your referee." But overall, the activity was fun and the instructor was nice. There is also random tetherball's placed around the facility to where you can play while you are waiting for your games to start.Got a good work out in the three hours we were there. read more

Over the weekend me and my fraternity had a wonderful weekend at eXplore brown county. There is so much that this place has to offer in terms of activities. My group and I were there for paintball but there was so many other activities like ATV courses, zip lining and adventure courses. If we had more time and money, we would've definitely indulged. Even while we were waiting we had activities to pass the time like tetherball and volleyball. They were very accommodating to our group of 40 people. We had to break up into smaller groups because of COVID-19 and the staff were more than hospitable. This is an event we do every year and the paintball courses never fail to provide us with a great time. From the big course where we were able to have 10 on 10 fights with capture the flag, team fights and our favorite the gauntlet. There is also a smaller course on a hill that has so many barriers that allows for a 5 on 15 fight that is action packed and filled with fun. We ended our day on the speedball course. These games went fast and we got the most use of our paint because of how much action you get on these courses. We even had time to run one on ones which allowed for some great stories and some great fights. Our frat has fond memories of eXplore Brown county and we will most definitely be back next year. The prices are unbeatable and a staff that loves to get involved, we couldn't ask for something better. Thank you again! read more

My wife, daughter & I visited eXplore Brown County for the first time in October 2012. We ziplined on the Canopy Tour - 5 zip lines, 2 skybridges and one rappel at the end. Our two guides were awesome - very friendly and talkative, yet constantly focused on safety. All of the ziplines were great, as were the skybridges. The rappel was a disappointment. It was a simple 20' lowering on a rope to get off of the final platform, not what I consider a rappel. We had an excellent time, so we tipped our guides well. We just came back from a family camping trip at eXplore Brown County - had a great experience! My parents stayed in a cabin and my wife, our kids, and I set up our tent near the cabin. All their staff are very friendly and helpful, especially the ladies that checked us in at the Harvest Hall office. My wife and I did a zip-line tour as well. I definitely recommend trying this, it was so much fun and our guides, Tony & Shelly were great too! I also felt the cost for everything we did was very reasonable.
