Place an order for a broken eyeglass, after three weeks haven't got any text message or a call, just got a voicemail said will call you back ASAP. Never got any call back from them until I had to walked in to talk to them. Finally I got a call to informed me that they couldn't order a new frame. Visit Notes: The doctor and attendants were a bit aggressive/stern in their deminer, possibly because I had not been back for a number of years and had I known this was the same outfit as years ago with simply a name change, I would not have selected them. True, I had not gone back, mainly due to what I felt was a demonstration of incompetence, not with the staff, but with the Doctor(s) as well as a genuine sense of exploitation. Their vague and secretive approach to your diagnoses and the treatment(s) for your issue puts my "Spidey" senses on alert, their retention of an outdated record system [analog v digital], coupled with a reluctance to provide a full report of their results and insights of my visit, makes it harder to gain an understanding and information on my condition(s) subsequently making it harder to research and compare their findings. No, I am not a medically trained professional, I am a rather good researcher though, and no dummy either. They are particularly good at the technical portion of the visits; they are efficient and appear to be thorough, still with only a "summary" of the visit I am just second guessing. Further, it is unclear if they are using the most up-to-date systems and methods as the processes are the very same, I experienced many years ago. The nontechnical portion, patient interaction, administration and such are where in my opinion, the failings lie. They are friendly in the front office, but notably lack any sense of urgency, putting personal conversations ahead of business and waiting patients. Cooperative up to a point, seems a line may have been drawn they can't cross when it comes to information regarding your medical condition and records, unlike other medical providers in the area who grant their patients to access the records; to their diagnosis, full view of any scans and x-rays, lab results, and their personal notes on your visit and condition. One final mention, I was prescribed a medicine and went to the pharmacy to retrieve it, was told it wasn't ready because they needed answers from the doctor who hadn't returned their call(s). I followed up the next time to the pharmacy, approximately a week later, same result except for an additional unreturned call to the doctor. This went on for over three weeks before the fourth call was finally returned, and answers provided so the prescription could be filled. This review has zero to do with the eye Drs in this practice. They're totally amazing. Keep in mind, this all began February 29th. With that being said, get your prescription and go somewhere else for your glasses. 3 weeks after I picked my frames, I get a call from the office manager, Nora, telling me that my insurance doesn't cover my glasses. I called the insurance company. I am covered. They reached out, but Midwest didn't answer the phone-which is the norm, btw. I called and picked schedule/cancel appt option, and someone answered. After explaining to the csr, she asked if she could look at my file to see what's happening. She said that it appeared I cancelled them. No i didn't; and why would Nora call and say my insurance won't cover my glasses but I can pay out of pocket if I cancelled them? She got me to Nora, and she said oh yes, your insurance will cover them. Ok then. It's been 3 weeks since I ordered them at this point. We hang up, and she calls back about an hour later and leaves a message that those frames were gone now, and I'd need to come on Monday and pick a new frame. Done. Angry; but done. 2 weeks later I'm still waiting. I called...through the other office so someone will answer when I'm transferred. This lady tells me that the lens crafter put the bifocal in the wrong place and they needed to redo them. She was hoping to get them out and back before I found out! What?!!! She said they're expediting the order. What a flippin' joke that was. I called my insurance company the 8th because Midwest told them the week before that they'd be there by the 7th. My insurance company had to get my vision carrier on the phone and they called Midwest and talked to Midwest together. As it turns out, no one had faxed the measurements over and the crafter was waiting for them. Wait. What?! They once again said they'd do it immediately and expedite the order. Not! I got my glasses April 21st!! Almost 2 months for a pair of glasses that I didn't even pick in the first place. Glasses that I don't like because my choices were so much fewer. Now I have to pay cash for glasses that I do like. These people are the worst. A lady was complaining when I went in to get my glasses that they never answer the phone, and it had been 3 weeks since she ordered them. One of my dear friends went for the 2nd year, and twice they gave her frames she didn't pick out. If you go to this group of Drs, please get your prescription and go somewhere else for your glasses. They are horrible. This you can bank on. read more

I spent all morning looking for a location that accepted my insurance, I saw that they accepted Medicare. I called them and questioned the person that answered the phone. I gave her all my information and I asked her are you sure. She repeated yes we do, before I left I called again to ask. The reply was "yes we do". So then end of the story is this, my appointment was 215 I got there at 200 sat and waited until 245 they call my name and I was told sorry we don't carry your Medicare program. I just lost almost 2 hours that I won't get back. So don't trust the person that answers the phone. A waste of time. read more

We have VSP inaurance & in the past I've used this place for all 4 of us. Even tho my insurance is very good we always had a huge out of pocket amount we had to pay. This place tries to upsell you everything under the son for your lenses. Do not fall for that. Well this last time we decided to try the place in Cotsco. Low and behold our out of pocket was $96 for 2 pairs of high prescription glasses. We paid WAY MORE than that for one pair at Midwest Eye Consultants. We also were in and out of Costco in under an hour for two appts. People were also friendly. The Costco membership fee is worth it for just glasses alone. Never again Midwest Eye Consultants! I blame myself for not doing my homework for many years. read more

I was a new patient and had an appointment at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 11. I was told they were running behind and was asked to be patient. I went to the desk at 5:30 and was told that the receptionist forgot to take my form back. Once in the room I was seen and was then given contacts that were the wrong prescription and for opposite eyes. The optometrist gave me a set of contacts that were different from the ones I normally wear and said that they were thicker so they might be uncomfortable. I put them in and told her they were uncomfortable. She told me to try them for a day or so and if I still didn't like them I could call and come back in to have them changed. I have been calling for the past 24 hours with no answer and no returned call. I was also charged $138 for my visit but the receptionist couldn't tell me what the charges were for except the $10 copay and a $30 picture of my eye. I'm extremely upset and highly disappointed with the entire situation. read more

I was a new patient at Optivue since moving here from out of state and my experience ensures I will never return. I made appointments for myself and my husband. I arrived on time for my appointment but had to wait about 35 minutes. I was taken into an exam room and given a quick exam by someone who didn't even introduce herself. She didn't listen well when I explained I only had one set of contacts left and was saving them for the exam so for the past few weeks I'd been wearing my glasses. She wrote on my record that I always wear glasses. After she left, I sat there for about 30 minutes waiting for the doctor to appear and when she did, she was unfriendly, cold, and failed to make any effort at friendly conversation. Not even a "how are you" or "what brings you to town?" I had to correct her when she read on my file that I only wear glasses. Also, I wanted some information about Lasik but she seemed in too much of a hurry to give me an adequate answer. She then proceeded to scold me for not having my eyes dilated in two years even though she said there was nothing wrong with my eyes. After seeing the doctor, I met with the optician whose main focus was to persuade me to buy the new eye solution that they had just gotten in from a sales rep. My record still had the same error about only wearing glasses so again I had to explain the situation and he finally corrected my record. I was upset that he refused to let me order contacts even though I had been wearing the same brand of contacts and was given the same prescription that I'd been wearing for the past 5 years. According to him, it was their policy that I wear a sample pair for 2 weeks and then return for a follow up appointment before I could order contacts. When I returned for my follow up, it took over an hour simply because the optician kept talking nonstop. When I finally did order contacts I discovered that because the exam was so expensive, it used up all of my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket for my contacts. That's never happened! I have excellent coverage that has always been enough to cover the exam and contacts. Why on earth is the exam so expensive at this office? Additionally, the front desk staff doesn't know what they're doing. My husband needed several receipts for his rebates but they said they didn't know how to do it and come back later. When I went to pick them up later, they had only printed out one of the requested receipts. My husband's experience was similar and he mentioned he had seen so many people he didn't even know which was the doctor and he never received a friendly word. Needless to say, next year when it's time for our exams we will be going elsewhere. read more

I will compare this eye clinic to an eye factory, where you are handed from one unidentified person to another without much care. The first gal barely greeted me (still don't know her title), had me remove my contacts without the option to wash my hands, and then proceeded to put drops in my eyes/put her hands on my face without washing her hands. Also, she failed to tell me what the drops would do until I asked, at which point my eyes were numb. Oh yeah, those are numbing drops that will make your tears yellow. I have never had that before, and it was a bit alarming without an explanation from someone who hadn't even built basic rapport with me who happened to be putting things in my eyes. I was then dismissed to the waiting room, but I could barely see because my eyes had been dilated, so I sat at the first chair I found. I was holding a pair of glasses I liked, which the eyeglass fitter also took a fancy to, which prompted her to take them, show them off to the front desk girls, and then put them on her keyboard saying that she wanted to get them for herself. Very odd. I suppose I will take my business elsewhere (BTW, same glasses at Lenscrafter were $30 cheaper and you get them in an hour). The eye doctor was ok. The contact lens fitter gave me contacts that were too weak, which resulted in a follow-up, etc. More time wasted at this inefficient office. Overall, it seems that employees in this office are poorly trained, time management is an issue (my appointment was over an hour), the culture is unprofessional, and it is overpriced for the service you get. read more

I wasn't even here for an appointment for myself, just waiting for a friend to get an exam and choose her glasses. Couldn't find the Midwest on Lewis Avenue to write a review for, so the one on Lewis is the one I'm referring too. Yes, it's great that they have late hours of being open until 8pm, but you should have more than one consulting Optometrist or schedule less patients this later in the day. I started out waiting in the car for her for almost an hour. Then came in to help her pick out some frames. We watched all but 2 employees leave for the day while we waited another half hour just for her to be seen to place the frame order. This is ridiculous. Especially watching people who came in and left all within a half an hour. Maybe I'm just cranky cuz I'm HANGRY, but this wait is annoying. read more

Customer service is not a priority here. Cold aloof and borderline rude is what everyone here is. Rude to each other and patients. Direct answers are never given. I brought my son in for 1st time contacts and we had a Saturday appointment at 12:30. We were not seen until 1:15pm (45 mins late) And when we were finally seen, we were obviously rushed in and out and not given the same answer twice. Just felt really weird and money driven." They all wanted to get out of there and didn't even bother properly showing my son how to use contact lenses. One of the girls working there "helping"us even said "as long as he gets them in I'm just gonna let you guys go because they never should have booked a contact fitting appointment this late." WTF was I paying for?!??! Why is it like this everywhere??! Where can a family go for eye exams, decevnt frsne selection, knowledgeable and kind staff, and great customer service?? Why is that too much to ask for these days? Places like this are losing business to online service. They better step up quick or they won't have jobs much longer. Very disappointed read more

I have never had a bad experience here. I'm not sure what people are really looking for when they go to an eye doctor... I'm there to get my eyes checked out, do what I have to do, and then leave. I don't need coddled, or catered to. I've never been treated rudely or anything. I had LASIK done here with fantastic results - went from extremely poor vision (glasses all the time), to 20/15 vision. Yes, the process of getting LASIK, the day of the procedure was factory like and scripted, but being a person that admires efficiency and standardization, this boosted my confidence, because they do it so often. I went from hardly being able to read something 5 inches from my face without glasses, to immediately being able to see the time on the clock on the wall as soon as I stood up from the procedure - it was amazing! Again, never a bad experience... I'm there for my yearly checkup, and out the door without fuss - and that's what I get! read more

I would avoid this place at all costs. I ordered glasses for the first time ever. Took almost a month to come in. When they finally did, they were so strong I couldn't even see out of them. They told me my eyes would "adjust" and I needed to keep them and wear them for two weeks. Which I tried to do. Given I couldn't see out of them, that was tough. Called to make an appointment to have them fixed. They wouldn't make an appointment. I had to come and wait forever to see a tech. He measured, reviewed and basically tried to convince me they were the right prescription. Only when I insisted on a refund and reminded him you should actually be able to see out of glasses, did he agree to make an appointment with the doc again. I had to go back again to see the eye doc and he changed the script. Now - five weeks later - I'm still waiting on the glasses to arrive. This process started almost three months ago and still no glasses... read more

Horrible! Worst experience I have ever had with any optical provider. They sneak in as many hidden fees as they can to ramp up your out of pocket expense all while claiming they 'can't find your insurance coverage' forcing you to pay as much as possible. I was charged, without being asked a $75 contact lens fitting fee, for the eye 'doctor' to look at my eye with the same brand of contacts I've worn for years. This place is an obvious money making scheme they don't care at all about their clients. The building and office is unclean and run down, no one cleans the machines before examining you, and the staff is severely incompetent. I will never ever be back, and will tell everyone I know about how awful this place is. read more

The receptionists were kind and efficient. The first woman we saw (I took my two children, ages 4 and 7), I couldn't tell you her name because she never introduced herself, was a bit cold at first, but warmed up by the end and my kids were comfortable with her. When we saw the doctor, whose name I also don't know because he never introduced himself, he was also cold and short but warmed up by the end. I feel like this was very much an eye exam factory and they had no real interest in keeping us on as returning patients. Overall, I left feeling like we got somewhere because we finished our exams, but that's about it. Nothing extraordinary. My kids aren't traumatized, but it won't be easy getting them to go back there. I'll update later when we have gone through the process of getting glasses, wish me luck. read more

I have purchased 6 pairs of glasses from these ppl over the years, primarily OptiVue, bc this is where my INS recommended. They have NEVER gotten any of the glasses right. Mind you the name has changed but the employees have not. Brenda, is no longer employed there, was the ONLY one who helped w/my daughter's CONTACTS and got them PERFECTLY CORRECT. But the glasses have NEVER BEEN RIGHT. I've had two pair that I can not see out of. Y did I return? I was to be credited for the Transitions money I paid for my other daughter's glasses that they seemed to forget to place on the lenses. During that same purchase, I purchased plastic sleeves for the arms of MY frames so I didn't have to paint them w/clear nail polish every week. I am allergic to Titanium/metals. I went back 5xs for the sleeves. I never got them . The 5th time the store was NO LONGER THERE. Y didn't they just make the glasses over or refund my money? Because this company are rip off scam artists. The first pair of frames [$1200.00] I bought during this LAST purchase were broken by Classic Labs. I was NOT compensated AT ALL for this 'JIMMY CRYSTAL' frame. I found another frame and the glasses took 9 WEEKS to come back. The Bi-focal is GLUED ONTO THE LENSES. I CANNOT SEE OUT OF THE GLASSES. The heavy set guy at the Lewis store says this is NORMAL, unless I buy a pair of their UGLY FRAMES. The TOTAL TIME to get my glasses back from these ppl was FIVE [5] MONTHS. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS, UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING VISION IMPAIRED AND RIPPED OFF. BTW: I STILL was not credited the money for the Transitions, nor the sleeves. They made me pay for them AGAIN. I'll see them in court. BTW: My 3 children refused to wear their glasses bc they couldn't see out of them either and this was NEVER corrected during those 5 return visits. read more

I started going to Kahn and Diehl when it was downtown Toledo, then Dr. Diehl took over than Optivue now Midwest and I am very dissatisfied that they charge for a vision exam so I can get my new contacts and then also charge me for a contact exam, really she looked to see if they were sitting right on my eyes, I can pretty much tell if they are not sitting right on my eyes I don't think I have to pay another 88.00 for that, so 169.00 dollars later I was so disgusted I didn't even order my contacts I will go somewhere else. I have never been charged that much for an exam!!! read more

To put it nicely, I have never experienced such poor service. The staff is incompetent to say the least. If you would like to get in contact with the anyone.. best of luck. I spent half an hour calling the only number listed on their website and was supposedly being forwarded to an operator when really the recording menu simply started over again. After multiple attempts at an operator, I tried every other option and was forwarded to a voicemail at each extension. My question is why would the store be listed as open for another hour.. yet there is no way possible to reach the office? or even a real person sitting at a desk in some building hours away to at least allow me to pay my bill? And on top of that.. I was unable to pay for and order my glasses before I paid $200+ in some past bill. Again, I am unsure as to why this is an issue now when the bill is supposedly from 3 months ago.. and yet I was able to order my glasses a month ago when I was in the office. This information would be great to have had communicated earlier.. in addition to having an office that actually cares whatsoever about their patients. Instead this company/ office is ONLY concerned with their own profit. Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE service. I would HIGHLY recommend NOT going to OptiVue. I am sure you could find a doctor's office that actually cares about the patient. If not.. god help us all. And the one star is not deserved what so ever. I would click negative stars if able, however at least one star has to be selected in order to post. I only go to Optivue/Midwest Eye Consultants to get my eyeglasses prescription to purchase glasses online from Warby Parker and to purchase eye contacts. I definitely agree with other reviewers on the customer service in the front office. The front desk staff are the coldest group of ladies I have ever met in my entire life! They probably deal with a lot of different patients and nonsense all day every day, so I can understand but only to an extent. They won't introduce themselves--EVER! They won't acknowledge you and it makes sense because a patient can't report an employee for lack of professionalism or poor customer service if they don't know their name. (So, always ask for their name and they will not mistreat you!) Regardless of what happens in the front office, the back office is a whole different world! The employees are awesome! Especially the contact fitters and the optometrists! Very friendly and I haven't had the experiences other people seem to have had. read more

I am never using Optivue again. I was sold glasses with progressive lenses with 3 prescriptions on them!!! that were useless and the person who pushed me into buying them knew what I wanted-- I brought the glasses that I was using that were working just fine and specifically had them tested and specifically stated I wanted a new pair of the same. when the progressive ones did not work I was told I didn't give them enough time, which was ridiculous, and I was also initially told I was not entitled to a credit-- that was outrageous, and I am 100% sure this was not about what was best for me, but rather what was best for his commission. I finally had to call the billing department and got only a 30% credit. Then, when the new glasses finally came in, and I picked them up, I still did not get my credit, and was told I had to wait another week. I had to call and complain to the billing department again. Optivue is a mill that is not interested in it's patients-- it is only interested in billing them as much as possible. To add insult to injury, when I came home and told my wife this story, she told me the exact same thing had happened to her at optivue, but she had not asked for a credit. What other business sells a customer a product that they did not want and cannot use, and then when they return it do not automatically give them a credit??? Why should optivue keep the customer's money when the customer returns their product??? There are plenty of other optical places-- I am done. read more
