The following is what they billed us for: 1-coil of 1/4" brake line @ $36 (installed from driver side rear wheel cyl to center housing to front brake booster), 1-set brake pads @ $64.95, 2-front calipers @ $68.99ea (total of $137.98), 2-rear brake drums @ $93.99ea (total of $187.98), Labor 7.2 hours @ $75/hr. Included in the labor was also "bleed brake system". We paid a total of $1006.79 for repairs. This repair was at the end of our vacation and we needed to leave home the next morning. On our way home the brakes still didn't feel right so I made arrangements to have my mechanic check the line to make sure it's "bled". My mechanic noticed right away the brake line hanging nearly to the ground--unsecured--he said one good twig in the road would have pulled the whole line out. What he found on further inspection was they installed 3/16" brake line (not 1/4"), it was installed from driver door to rear block/rear brake hose and wasn't placed back in framing. Front brake calipers were used (he said they were blasted / sand blasted) and that the brake line not only hadn't been bled correctly it had been leaking and onto the calipers one of which seized up and refuses to work--needing replaced. There was very little brake fluid to the rear lines & brake wheel cylinders d/t incorrect bleeding. He also found that 4 of my lugnuts had been stripped -- says they had to have used the power torque to put the lugnuts on instead of manually & then power tighten at end. Brake line was re-installed (re-cut, fixed line, new fittings, re-ran in framing), driver side caliper replaced & bled correctly. Cost of correcting Tire & Auto's "repairs": Parts + Labor = $554.75. I have receipts & photos. I feel we were taken advantage of...on vacation, broken down nearly 45 minutes from our rental house, I am older and obviously unable to fix it myself. I submitted a complaint to the BBB and Atty Gen. Office in NC and received a response that stated "their version differs from yours". Also copies of receipts from AutoZone with multiple lines of the receipts blacked out so I'm wondering what I'm missing. Doesn't matter to me what parts they bought it's also the fact that the brake line was left unsecured which is a serious driving hazard. Also the 1/4" line is listed on the AutoZone print out but my mechanic had to buy clamps for it at our AutoZone and had to return the 1/4" clamps he originally purchased because it wasn't a 1/4" line it was 3/16".
