Dinosaur Land is a fabulous tourist attraction that could be in a Chevy Chase movie. Life size…read moredinosaur sculptures and a few other creatures fill the forest of this Shenandoah Valley wonder. Joseph Geraci started Dinosaur Land back in 1967. Thirty five of the original dinosaurs were created by James Sidwell, who was famous for his dinosaur replicas at the Field Museum in Chicago. Newer dinosaurs and creatures were crafted by Mark Cline, a local artist. I spoke with Geraci's granddaughter, who works in the gift shop. She explained that her grandfather passed away 40 years ago and her mother now owns the park. Four generations of Geraci's have worked at the park. Admission is $7 for kids under eleven and $9 for all others. Visitors can take photos up close with the dinosaurs and other creatures including a giant octopus. The self-guided tour takes 30-60 minutes. The park is open from March through December. The gift shop is filled with tee shirts, toy dinos, postcards, books, glassware and other souvenirs. Dinosaur Land is a fun place to take the kids or your favorite dinosaur enthusiast. The sculptures are amazing works of art.

There really isn't much in the way of exhibitors or other things, though there was a demolition derby! If you have small kids, I think the fair would be a great day out for them, but as an adult couple we were done in little over an hour seeing everything.

Overall wonderful experience but wanted to offer suggestions based on my observations. Suggestions for improvement: 1. Designate left side (as if you're walking into the establishment) door as entrance only and right side door as the exit. Right side door locked so people can't open it from outside and designated as exit only. Small area and a bit of a cluster with the line to pay and people attempting to exit. 2. Enforce the no running rule. There were several older kids running at full speed, could have seriously hurt some of the littles. 3. Reevaluate the location/flow for the cubbies and coat hooks. Maybe put a designated area by the exit door?! 4. Put some nets around the ball pit with one or two designated entries so balls aren't constantly ending up all over the floor. 5. Maybe shoe covers at the bathroom entrances?! Kinda gross to walk into a bathroom with play socks and then back running around all over. And put the entrance shoe covers somewhere more visible, most people missed that they were there.

A few things could be improved. The bathrooms were not that clean and out of paper towels. The ball pit was not contained at all, and there were plastic balls everywhere. The foam pits at the ninja course at pretty shallow and could ideally be twice as deep if not more. And there is very little actual supervision- kids climbing up slides, throwing balls at each other, racing around without any regard for smaller kids. The staff was friendly, but there is room for improvement.

The owner/person in charge of the place will not allow any customer to use and access their debit card in order to not be charged the 5%. This has been going on for years and is absolutely absurd. Your sign says 5% charge on a credit card. There is no sign for charge on debit card, but the owner/ person in charge of the place will not allow customers to use debit card by entering their pin number. Debit cards should not be charged 5%. It's illegal and it shouldn't be discriminated to use a debit card. They get away with this additional charge due to not allowing customers to choose their debit and enter in their pin. SIGN IS POSTED CHARGE ON CREDIT CARDS 5%.

The park was clean, well staffed, and lines moved quickly at rides. They had commentary life jackets but only one in adult size which was weird but it worked since only one person in our party wanted one. You don't really need a life packet since most rides have water going up to only about 3 feet My favorite ride was the last river. We spent a long time on our tubes in the lazy river. I also loved all the water slides and was amazed by the availability of 3 person tubes which made us super fun for our party of 3 to ride together. They also have surf lessons included which I wanted to try but they closed the water park 2 hours early with no disclosure of reasons. The hot tubs were great too The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the tickets cost $63 whether it's only for the indoor park or for the indoor and outdoor park admission. There is no discounted rate during the off season when the outdoor park is not in operation, or at least that's what it seemed from the online website.

Wasn't the kids fault though. As far as rules go: they don't check bags, I watched many patrons with food and drinks not from the facility (including alcoholic), kids in the adult hot tub BUT the lifeguards did great and honestly it was still a good time, just not 50 dollars a person good. Seems they're adding on, I'm sure this will make a huge difference in the future.

Some paths were easier than others and took some time to go through. We had 12 kids in our group and there was plenty of room for all of them to be on the course at the same time. The instructors that hooked them up with the harnesses was very kind and patient with all the kids. The weather was beautiful this day and so they really took their time on the ropes.
